  1. Yep - I have the UK Stax copty too Jim. I first played it out in the early/mid 70's with little success (it didn't really fit the STOMP, STOMP mentality of the time for most people). It was early 80's at Clifton Hall before I started hammering it... and it caught fire! Superb record for sure and an ACE double sider! Sean
  2. PS: Your last played clip (Bobby McClure) is one of mty faves too! Magnificent! Sean
  3. It's been around a good while. Its on a Goldmine CD from some 10 (?) years ago. Various Artists-Groovesville Review Volume 2 - 25 Rare and Unreleased Heartstompers From The Vaults of Detroit GOLDMINE GCSD 87 Melvin actually wrote it. Great tune... and beautiful on a 45 by Darrell Banks. Sean
  4. Mental bargain prices there Steve! Sean
  5. Value of "Thrill" a M- copy on Bradys site at £100 right now. VG+............ probably £50 would be more realistic/about right but then one went on ebay for peanuts recently And no... YHMRWIHM was unreleased. Sean
  6. Love it. In my box always. An incredible double sider! Love the term 'proper soul'. Few of us would understand it... and I applaud the passion you have for it. Also, I share your disdain for this 'so-called' RnB / Pseudo Rock / Garage Twangy White Pop wave that seems to be gaining popularity. Just a great post. Sean
  7. Was it to Simon, Steve? He's always talking about it. Sean
  8. These 45's were all 35 cents to a dollar at one time. The prices we've been paying (on the 'Rare Soul' scene) and the 'values' we've attributed to the records, these past 40 years, are really artificial prices, based purely on supply and demand (as Joe said earlier). When times are good (folk have spare money sloshing around) demand is high and prices increase. In recessionary times the double whammy kicks in - demand subsides and a surplus (of titles being disposed of) emerges. Changed priorities, stages of life, also have an influence on what price we put on such items and how 'valuable' they are to us (as Paul said - Pa... I Need A Car). But... as sure as eggs is eggs, when things pick up again (as they surely will) some folk will start wanting those little luxuries back in their lives again and prices will be back on the rise. My problem is I collect pretty much everything Soul related (US/UK/60's/70's/80's/Southern/Northern/Modern/Crossover/LP's/CD's the whole nine yards) so it's always been an expensive habit, but the past 12 months I must admit I've had a bit of a field day on the 'gap fillers' that have become available. Take me to that mountain! Sean
  9. Really sorry to read this. Hot Buttered Soul was always an essential read for me as a lad and I met him often at Record Fairs, here and there, over the years. Sincere Condolences. RIP Sean
  10. Agree Wholeheartedly. I played it on Soul Discovery Radio last year, and have played it out often, early doors. First heard Blake Helliwell play it in the lounge a few years ago. Pure class! Sean
  11. I blush Mark, especially as you aint too shabby either! Let's just say, I do my best! If my arm was twisted, I'd have to nominate my sidekick TATS as a guy who's well on top of his game at the moment. He's my kinda DJ, obsessed with Quality over Rarity and never fails to entertain with only the very best in Real Soul Music (the two of us will be at Blah Bar, Barnsley, 26th September incidentally ). Good thread this Mike! Thanks. Sean
  12. And what an Incredible Resource it is too! Sean
  13. On Post 7 was Mike Bumping his own post?
  14. But while looking for a sound file on net I happened to notice this (link below) did you know Hep'Me did any albums?
  15. No - Never saw that Bob. Love the Companions - but can't imagine the 'Fake Brit' version is anything to write home about. Even the authentic stuff is pretty bloody awful! Sean
  16. You're up early Malc. Or have you not gone to bed yet? Sean
  17. Relax guys, there's millions of Soul records here (in the UK) plundered from the USA that won't be going anywhere fast. Bob's right, of course - real Soul Music is the music of Black America. English cultural music tends to begin and end with a 'Hey Nonny No!' And that stuff I'd be happy to see get shipped abroad. Sean
  18. Agree with you mate, a Top Tune by Willie! Kev, surprised you'd sell such a great record - regardless of plays! Did someone make you an offer you couldn't refuse? Sean
  19. Hi Brian, First press is Red label from 1968 (quite hard) - second is pink and pressed in the 80's (from memory). Lovely old Clifton Hall tune mate! Sean
  20. Respec Rod! I'm all for twinning. As always been one of me own fantasiz! You da man! Sean
  21. Glad you liked it Rod, It's Real Deal Phatass Phunk! Groovin... and Dealin' with the Feelin' An... ...turned out nice again, ant it! Sean
  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLEK0UZH4cs Seriously funky... and a real social commentary on what's wrong with the world today. Up there with Curtis & Marvin. Think About It!
  23. We certainly know who the Joker is Webby! Sean
