  1. Still looking for this. Your price paid. Many thanks Sean
  2. Nice one Ady. I'd love to know the facts behind these two releases. Lorraine Chandler (Lorchand on here) wrote and produced TCBABW. She wrote on a YouTube page: "Sorry, I wrote, produced and published the song. I swear, I know my Smith Brothers when I hear them. These are not The Magnificents." Lorraine Chandler She wrote on SS " "I have no idea who gave whom the masters and would like to know who authorize the Smith Bros. to be renamed the Magnificents. This is the same record, recorded by the Smith Bros. If anyone knows how I can get in touch with MAM, please help me with the information. I've found no address or telephone number on the west coast that is legitimate. To state it clearly once again, it is the same record done by the Smith Bros." Interesting earlier thread (which I'm sure you will have seen) states that when it was covered by John Manship he had acetates done as the Magnificents. Neil Rushton says Jack did 500 off around 1976. Love the record! Sean
  3. That is a hell of a coincidence mate. You were the only person in the UK in the 70's that knew of the album's existence and then happened to have been in L.A. a few years later and found it! Well, since your recall is so good, I hope you can remember where it went, or who it was that you sold it to, because I've got a wad of notes here to shake at the owner when you do! Cheers, Sean
  4. I honestly feel this LP is less likely to be on 'Truth' than it is on 'Fantasy'. So there's been just a couple of reported 'sightings' but I can't help thinking that they are quite likely to be mistaken here, in my opinion. To spice things up (or to kill this speculation off completely) I will gladly pay £3,000 for a US copy of this elusive Sandra Wright LP, if it's out there (via Colin Dilnot or any other potential owner) on the original US label Truth / Gospel truth or Stax (..... of course, that is providing I get to check it personally as a true original and not some recent snide / moody repro - akin to the Sam Williams etc. listed on another thread). Would somebody please deliver me the goods (because I'd love an 'original' US copy of this fabulous album). Let's face it, after seeing over a million or so records in our life times, the mind plays tricks on us sometimes. We're only human. But until this album appeared on Demon, all those years ago, it's my belief that this was a totally unreleased work. And completely unheard of, this side of the pond. That's my view. And like others on this thread, until someone produces the goods I will struggle to accept otherwise. Then again, if it turns up, and you take up my offer, I'll be the owner of a pretty exclusive one off! Somehow though, I think my money is safe, but, come on guys lets see the vinyl. Sean
  5. Thanks Steve. Wondering which ones in particular? If they've not been out as 45's before, it puts a slightly different slant on the 'passing off as originals' thing. Still a boot, but what on earth were they thinking? Sean
  6. Could someone tell me, what are the Valerie Simpson & Terry Johnson titles (both sides of each)? Sean
  7. Hi John, I bought it as a new release. Must have been early '89. Was hugely drawn to it for obvious reasons and taped it for all and sundry (including your good self). Believed it was the best thing to have come out of the south since Shirley Brown 'Woman To Woman' ...... and you know how much I raved over that, back in the day. Immediately picked up on 'I'll Come Running Back' as the side to play out, even though 'A Man Can't Be A Man' was a strong contender. I also fell madly in love with 'I'm Not Strong Enough'. On all levels it's absolutely beautiful. Hoped the album would be hailed as a classic in the same light as 'I'm A Loser' 'Caught Up' 'Too Many People' etc. although it faded fairly quickly. I don't remember it selling too many at the time. Must say it 'felt' like we were probably seeing a latter day collectors item in the making. Was a tiny bit disappointed when others started playing 'Midnight Affair' as it was a track I liked least off the album. I guess that was the track that folk started scouring for initially. The very generous Paul Mooney kindly sent me a Test Pressing of the 'I'll Come Running Back' 45 when it was released, a few years ago, which was very nice to receive. Glad to see that overall the album has developed much more of a following in recent years. Though am extremely surprised to hear of the issuing of an earlier US album!!! If it's out there, where did it (or they) end up? I'd pay £300 for one of those without batting an eyelid! Cheers mate, Sean
  8. So it was played by Russ at Wigan announced as M. Reeves etc. in 77 Pete? Thanks for that. I think I'd have had the 'cover up' spin a couple of years earlier in my mind, maybe '75. That kind of makes sense to me now. Just wish I knew what he'd had it covered as a couple of years earlier . No big deal, just curious. Cheers. Sean
  9. I heard about the pies mate. You're right, sounds as though I did miss out! Can't believe how quickly that's come round again. Have a great one buddy. Sean
  10. Agreed Ian. I can't have been the only person in the building who knew what it was. But, although I had known it a few years, I'd never (ever) heard it played out anywhere before that night. I'm sure Russ will have the answer. Cheers mate. Sean
  11. Agreed Pete. I can't have been the only person in the building who knew what it was. Thanks for that. So I guess Russ will have the answer. Cheers. Sean
  12. Cheers Pete. Would that have been first time it was played uncovered? Do you recall who it was that played it? Would it have been Russ? That would have been a lot of money at the time, a fiver! Sounded fantastic though in the main room played loud! Sean
  13. It's a weird one John. Something that I never got to the bottom of and never though to ask until now. I'm 90% sure it was Russ cos he had a tendency to do such things. Remember him playing the Miracles 'Soulful Shack' one night - another one that I'd loved for a few years but never thought I'd hear it in the Main Room at Wigan! Wonder if Mark / Wiganer can shed any light as I think he was building a list of everything played? Cheers John and Happy New Year to you and yours! Sean
  14. Back in the day I always thought that the Elsie Strong was a Selectadisc Boot as it appeared in quantity at the height of the Lenis Guess popularity. But later learned that it was a proper job. Does anyone still play either version out anywhere? It was certainly a MASSIVE indemander at one time. Sean
  15. Evening all Something came to mind this afternoon (which is odd cos I don't normally do any thinking on a Sunday). I remember at a very early Wigan hearing Martha & The Vandellas "One Way Out" played and announced with a cover up title. I'd had the record for many years so was shocked to hear it covered, but none of my mates knew it at the time. Some time after it went on to be pretty popular and loads of us played it, but does anyone remember what was the artist & title? Think it may have been Russ that played it, but I may be wrong. Anyone? Thanks a bunch. Sean
  16. Still looking for this. Does it actually exist and does anyone know of anyone who owns it? Sean
  17. Today is my Birthday. Be nice. Find me this record.
  18. Gotta love John. A true gentleman of the Soul Scene. Sean
  19. Yes, agree, the plain label copies definitely came in company sleeves.
  20. Dear Santa, I've been a very good boy this year. Please send someone who will sell me this fookin' record. Merry Christmas Sean
  21. Would love a copy of this, before I'm much older. Anyone out there got a copy to sell? Contact me. I'll pay your price. Sean
  22. Cheers John Sean ............................................................................................................................................................................................................... Still looking for this one folks. Does anyone know of anyone who may have a copy that might be tempted to sell it to me? Top price paid. Many thanks Sean
  23. Would be much better if someone could sort me this record out mate Good seeing you last night - Looking as good as ever, busting them moves on the dancefloor, like a veteran! And glad I could help out with the Elf label question. I walked away thinking, do you think I was there for the good of me elf? Cheers, Derek. Sean
  24. Right - I'm getting a bit fed up now! Someone must have it out there and wants my fistful of dollars in return! I will pay your price...... So what are you waiting for? Many thanks Sean
  25. Did ya'll see this got booted recently? Nothing is sacred anymore. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DARRELL-BANKS-OPEN-THE-DOOR-TO-YOUR-HEART-MONSTER-NORTHERN-SOUL-LISTEN-/291602977626?hash=item43e4e4535a:g:~TAAAOSwKIpV-acz Sean
