  1. Ha! in exactly the same state of mind as Kev, if you want to hear the very best 'Deep Soul' come to 'Diggin Deep' a 5 hour Soul Session at the Red Lion, Todwick, between Sheffield & Worksop on 10th September 7:00 - Midnight. Featuring yours truly, Kev Briscoe and John Manship playing out as we've never heard him before! Gonna be special. Sean
  2. No mate, not 100% sure at all Mike. The 'Searcing For My Baby' 45 was obviously recorded at Fame. After Chess signed the act an album was then recorded, also at Fame, and I understood the out takes, or extra tracks, were from that session. They were Alabama boys and sound like the same players to me, but I don't have the CD so, not having read the notes, wasn't aware that they recorded in Chicago at all. Seems odd, particularly after the success of SFMB and when Chess were sending artists such as Etta James and Irma Thomas to record in Muscle Shoals. But may well have been a year or so later and trying to recapture that 'sound' in Chicago didn't come to anything. Cheers Mike for the info. See you in a few weeks! Sean
  3. Hi Peter, It's a beauty. Hope you're well mate. I think we have unfinished business, but as you know I'm a bit low profile these days. Please pm me your addy. Sean
  4. Yep, I was certainly the first (and will probably be the last) to play it . I picked up the LP for penny's several years ago as I had the UK Chess copy and didn't want to burn it up. Was shocked to find the unreleased bonus tracks on there, 'Can't Get Away' being particularly playable. I broke it first at 'Just Soul' under the guise of Chico Jenkins (the actual lead singer) and then at Soul Essence / Yarmouth weekender. It's still bubbling under and people should grab them while they can. The track is 100% Solid Soul gagging to be given lots of play. A Muscle Shoals masterpiece. Sean
  5. Cheers Steve. I'll buy the beer on Saturday. (Not all night, of course!). Sean
  6. Absolutely thrilled to be able to tell you about the next release on the revived and revered ‘Deep Soul’ label through Ace Kent: Tap to view this Soul Source News/Article in full
  7. Absolutely thrilled to be able to tell you about the next release on the revived and revered ‘Deep Soul’ label through Ace Kent: the legendary Holy Grail ‘But If You Must Go’ by Eddie Parker. I can assure you that the title is not being rush-released to coincide with the United Kingdom’s exit of the EU, nor has it anything to do with England’s woeful football team being dumped out of the Euro’s, nevertheless, the timing of this incredible 45 is right on cue and really can’t come soon enough for Deep Soul lovers everywhere, I’m sure. The record is the epitome of tear-filled, tortured, dramatic and emotional, deep soul music and the original 45 has been in demand in the UK, Europe and Japan for several decades. Having finally been made available on the Jack Ashford ‘Just Productions’ CD through Ace Kent, earlier this year, there’s bound to be a rush for the vinyl. A 45 of ‘But If You Must Go’ is something that every fan of the deeper shades of soul will want to possess. Originally issued on the US Mam-Miko label, there simply aren’t enough copies to go around, so it’s very fitting that ‘But If You Must Go’ is to appear on the newly invigorated Dave Godin logo over here. I well recall putting the track on a tape for Dave 20 odd years ago and he loved it. He and I had founded the miniscule ‘Deep Soul Appreciation Society’ in 1988 and had ambitions to release obscure and wonderful titles such as this. In hindsight it’s a good job we didn’t, as at the time there was very little interest from others, and the project most likely would have bombed. But the time is right, right now, and more especially as the flipside is the absolutely stunning, previously unreleased, Debbie Taylor ‘All That I Have’ which Kevin Briscoe once told me was one of the best things I’d ever shared with him. And that should be recommendation enough for anyone. Release of Deep Soul – 03 is scheduled for end of July 2016. Eddie Parker 'But If You Must Go' B/W Debbie Taylor 'All That I Have' Buy it and weep! Sean Hampsey X
  8. Took me a while Gareth, but you'll get one. Will keep em peeled for you mate. Sean
  9. Yep, me too. A fantastic set. And those artists cards are superb! Sean
  10. Fascinating thread. There are thousands of records that fit into the genre and which were recorded during the 'crossover of decades' period of 4-5 years. Certainly though there's a Top 100 (or more) of continuously trotted out same old, same olds that seem to have become deep rooted these days in Northern Soul culture. But the actual output is vast, possibly infinite. Some folk are still digging and seeking out these hidden gems. Others are satisfied to stick to the well worn, tired and proven. A familiar tale. Sean
  11. Beware of the fact that many US copies listed don't actually play the track. Been stung a few times over the years with that. Eventually found me a lovely UK Vocalion Demo. Like this one here, if you want it! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAREN-SMALL-To-Get-You-Back-Again-MINT-VOCALION-9281-Soul-Midtempo-DEMO-/262247285580?hash=item3d0f28034c:g:KpkAAOSwL7VWnS6N Cheers, Sean
  12. Steve Mannion used to play it at Clifton Hall as Shadows / uncovered so, would have thought, it would have been played uncovered by the time Stafford came along. Sean
  13. Yes, I would have played it off the 'Behind A Painted Smile' LP early days. What a fantastic bunch of tracks to be found on there! Essential stuff. Sean
  14. Darrell Banks UK London Demo orig (US Revilot) version Pete. Wouldn't trade mine for 1,000 Bootlegs. Sean
  15. Bad enough trying to keep pace with US Counterfeits never mind folk doing one on UK collectable and rare 45's.
  16. Thank you. So is that those belonging to Butch, Ian Levine and this Geoff chap? Sean
  17. So, how many copies (suspect or otherwise) are in the hands of DJs, in the UK, that we know of? Sean
  18. Still looking for this. Your price paid. Many thanks Sean
  19. I agree Pete. Tony Colton is flat. Don Gardner swirls. So does anyone know where was Don Pressed? Sean
  20. I agree Pete. Tony Colton is flat. Don Gardner swirls. So does anyone know where Don was Pressed? Almost certainly Europe, not USA. Sean
