  1. Confirmed then. It's an 'age' thing. Which is what Max said at the outset. Sean
  2. Featuring Leon COLLINS. It's the one I mentioned earlier. Same record. "Dynamite Explodes" is the instrumental flip to "I Just Wanna Say I Love You" Cheers, Sean
  3. Makes perfect sense Mark. Let's have more 'Oldies With Imagination'... and the scene will last forever! Or, at least, it will see us lot out! Sean
  4. Bedrock of the Northern soul scene Chris. All the Top tunes, when I were a lad, were on UK labels. Of the 30 'Soul Sounds' bootlegs that were done (back in the day) only one (Leon Haywood) had not received a UK release, which highlights their significance. I guess once the bootlegging think took off, in the early 70's, the only way you'd know you weren't getting ripped off was if you collected British as UK releases were much harder to copy and easier to identify and authenticate. To some extent, that's still the case! Besides, as a collector, very few things looks better, to my eyes, than a nice box of Stateside, London American, Sue, Action, TMG's etc. in Black & Silver or Red & White. They always get me salivating to this day! But my weakness is, I collect everything... and I still get pretty excited even with a box of 'big holes' infront of me! Sean
  5. Lovely tune Mark, was certainly played as a new release. Came out twice on US, one with Inst flip and the other having another nice vocal 'Crossover' tune on the flipside in 'Knowing I Love You'. It even had a UK release on EMI, which I picked up on when new. Credit to you mate if you're going to give it a long overdue spin. Very, very nice! Sean
  6. You will... of course... but I hope to see you before that Buddy! Sean
  7. Hey Brett, I've just remembered that night you and Bully were in the back seat of my car and me and Ashleigh were talking, in the front, about which mix of "I Can Deal With That" we preferred, with or without strings.... when you and Bully started shouting 'De-To' mix is best, we both realised the two of you had no idea what we' were talking about... but you were both too far gone for us to even try and explain! Sean
  8. Me and Rob Hurcomb were discussing this last year, Dave. There are two De-To releases... "With" strings and "Without". "Without" is the best by a mile, IMO, but I know a lot of people prefer the "With" mix. Always thought "Without" was first... and was the rarest of the two! Sean
  9. I have this on Oz Tamla Motown. No UK 45 release. Sean
  10. Bet the rolling piano intro sounds particularly spectacular on that copy Pete! Sean
  11. Good shout Kev. It's some seriously long note but, from memory only on the original VJ one, which (again from memory) is a longer track overall than the Chess take . Think the note Marvin holds is around 17 seconds, as it comes to the climax! Fabulous too! Sean
  12. Here you go. Think there's another more recent discussion somewhere. Sean
  13. Only this Saturday afternnon, I filled up listening to Willie Hutch's incredible "Walking on My Love". Caught me by surprise really. I've always liked the record... but it just floored me at that particular moment. A private moment, that I'm only sharing with you, because you asked. But seriously, this is an underrated true Soul gem. The Lyric, Vocal and Production are Absolute Perfection! One day, when you least expect it... when your heart is unprotected! This is JUST SOUL! Listen and weep. Sean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVp8aKxadG0
  14. Yes - the Carl Carlton ABC 45 is the same take as is on the Carl Carlton ABC LP. But neither of them are the same as Reuben Howell. It's a nice track by CC. Skips along beautifully. Sean
  15. You thought right. The Youtubr clip is Reuben Howell. Carl Carlton is taken at a quicker pace. Can think of several versions I have of this really great George Soule & Terry Woodford song:- Bobby Womack Supremes (Girl In love) Mirage Wilson Pickett Jimmy Elledge Carl Calton Sean
  16. Tats is on his way back from there right now Baz. Have you been before mate? If not, I'll pm you a couple of addresses and info. When are you thinking of going? Sean
  17. Yes, he was always willing to give a lad a hand when he got the chance, Malc. KGB was a great nighter venue. DJ'd there many times with Alan Millington, Steve Mannion, Steve Croft, Darren Harden etc. Triffic atmosphere. Truly Underground! Sean
  18. Hi Simon, From what you're saying though, its clear you would go back to an Allnighter if the DJ was playing tracks which are 'only available on CD'. If only that were possible, because, in my experience, most promoters just don't provide the equipment. I DJ all over the country with a Big Box of vinyl... and yet I always carry a bunch of CD's containing unreleased tunes or tracks that are only available in CD format. Would never play 'Vinyl Releases' off a CD incidentally, but it breaks my heart when the promoter hasn't catered for 'unreleased on vinyl' tracks and am limited solely to vinyl. The customers at those venues are missing out on some incredible tunes. Very frustrating. Sean
