  1. Sorry chaps, but personal taste is by definition 'personal'. Its not bollocks to not like something. That's nonsense. It might enjoyable or refreshing to you fuzzj, but I've been hearing it played out for 20+ years... and would much prefer never to hear it again, thank you! Sean
  2. Think you might be referring to the American Breed, Rob, and probably their version of "Bend Me Shape Me" on UK Dot. Sean
  3. I don't have a sound file, Simon, but its the first track on this old Clifton Hall tape if you want a listen. /more/soul-events-live/clifton-hall-rotherham-march-26th-1982-part-2 Cheers, Sean
  4. No Simon, it almost certainly did not. Sean
  5. Yes Dave. Let's have No Jazz, No Funk, No Junk... ...and I won't have to drink myself into a coma anymore! Sean
  6. Surprised that you're surprised Cliff. I don't like crap vocals. And there's too many good vocal records out there to waste my time (or dosh) on instrumentals. If I'm honest... I no longer believe in Miracles. Especially since hearing this... and the Mark bloody Cappani version Sean
  7. First 30 seconds Dave. Sean
  8. Sorry guys, the only way that would sound any good to me is if the room full of dancers were bikini clad nubiles... in custard. Which I very much doubt we'd find anywhere near Mansfield. I'm with Rob. It's an assault on the ears. Music for deaf people. Adding it now to my list of 'pet hate' records. Sean
  9. It's just one of my 'pet hate' records (alongside the Ultimates, Shawn Robinson etc. etc.). I was telling Steve G the other week at Yarmuff how the vocals grate on me. Great backing and all that, but the falsetto is all over the place. A bit 'pitchy' for me dawg' Randy Jackson might say! Sean
  10. Agree. Its not as good as either of those. Sean
  11. Yep - we call him 'Sir Joe'.
  12. No Phil, it's not what most people would call allnighter music. It's Just Soul. And the dancefloor is rammed... all night... (or at least until we chuck them out) Sean
  13. Hi Phil, Just Soul is a straightforward Soul Night. It's not a 70's night or a Crossover night - nor is it a Northern Soul night. We have no guest DJ's. We're just four Soul fans who play really great music. We've over 150 years of collecting between us - and tens of thousands of Soul records to go at, spanning five decades. Some of what we play is rare, some of it is common, some of it is exclusive.... all of it is real Soul music. Quality is the only criteria. And Soul lovers come from all over the country to hear it. Sounds played and to be played include the following:- Willie Walker - RunaroundSpencer Wiggins - Breaking PointCurtis Mayfield - No Thing On MeWilliam Bollinger - I Won't Have To Cry No MoreSam Dees - FunnyBobby Bland - I Wouldn't Treat A DogCandi Staton - One More HurtLee Reynolds - Love Comes From AboveBobby Womack - RunawayFour Tops - Still WaterInell Young - I've Never ConsideredPaul Kelly - You Make Me TrembleBetty Everett - Getting Mighty CrowdedDeena - Bring Your Lovin' BackWillie Hutch - Sho' Give You loveDan Greer - You're Slipping AwayOtis Clay - Nothing To Look Forward ToSharon Jones - I Learned The Hard WayMarshall McQueen - Any Woman Can Tell.... and loads more. If you'd like to know more, visit www.JustSoul.co.uk But in short, we're not running a 'Northern Soul' night nor are we holding a 70's or crossover event. It's a Soul night, playing only the very best, authentic, Black American soul music that we can find. It's 'Grown up' Soul. 'Gloves off' Soul. Just Soul. Sean
  14. Thanks for the plug Chalky. Our event has people travel from all over the UK, places as far apart as South London and Middlesbrough. Just for the record though, we play music until 2:00am... and then spend another hour saying goodnight . Sean
  15. To be fair Steve, that was always the strong rumour back in the Mecca days, when it first turned up. A rumour got around that it was George & Gwen McCrae. And as a wordplay, you can see how it got there. Course, it was total ballocks, we all realised later, but by that time Ian had bought a one way ticket to LA, so he kinda missed the revelation! Sean PS: It's really Gwen Guthrie & Ray Charles. But I might have just made that up.
  16. Can only imagine what you two have got 'in storage' from all your buying trips together. That said, I've seen the state of Robs garage... so I'm volunteering to come and help you both sort 'em out. one for you... one for Rob... one for me! Sean
  17. Phwooooooar! Agree John. Solid throughout. The surprise package of 1982. Another Muscle Shoals masterpiece... and the songwriters were in a different league! Sean
  18. Hey Mike, it worked for Tina Turner... old school, Soul singer turned Rock chick ... but its not what I'd like to see Bettye doing. Some bloody awful songs in that lot! Sean
  19. Otis Clay "Tired Of Falling In And Out Of Love".............. an all time fave. Otis Clay "That's How It Is".............. fond memories of singing this with the man himself. Otis Clay - Oh Bugger it.... all the Otis Clay's. Simply Magnificent. Sean
  20. Agreed. £0.30 is about what I paid for mine Kev. Sean
  21. Windmill Rotherham Classic... for the Mighty Bill Payne back in '79! Was booted on a 7" a few years ago b/w "Because Of You" Sean
  22. "Since There's No Doubt" was scheduled for Soul City Eddie (SC120). It was Sam Nesbitt BMG that was cancelled on 444 Sean
  23. Barry Smith "Hold On to It" People Sean
  24. Fabulous boxed set, Glynn. Proper SOUL MUSIC! Took me ages to get a complete copy. A Scarce and Wonderful collectors item at a real bargain price mate. Worth it for the Sam Dees track alone! It should fly out! Sean
  25. Certainly a track worth going out on a limb for Steve. Quality, Quality, Quality! Sean
