  1. Bought this as a new release... and it's still in my playbox! Sean
  2. My favourite Hi track... my favourite record of all time! You want Soul Music? This is it! Enjoy. Sean
  3. On my iPhone smiling Dave. :0) Going into a meeting now but I'll join you all later! Incredible label catalogue. Sean
  4. US Gateway or UK Sue labels should do it! :0) Sean
  5. Shangri la and Goner Records are well worth a visit. Sean
  6. Well done Ace / Kent, Dean, Tony and all involved. This is a superb and long awaited compilation from one of Soul Music's finest voices, recorded during her richest period. Apart from all those marvellous numbers that we all know and love, the unreleased tracks are simply STUNNING and up there with her very best recordings. Obviously the now indemand 'One More Hurt' is included - a crossover dancer of mammoth proportions which has been doing serious damage on dancefloors up and down the country for the past 12 months and is surely poised to go on to legendary status - but I'm slayed by the quality and soulfulness of the entire collection, in particular 'Loving The Easy Way' which is just about as deep and moody as Southern Soul music gets. This is one essential purchase folks and if you consider yourself a lover or a fan of Real Soul Music you MUST get the Complete Fame Records Masters. Breathtakingly magnificent. Sean
  7. Don't think so. Never seen a UK copy. I'd say NO if pushed. Sean
  8. Great contribution John. You came up with most of the ones I was thinking about while reading the thread. Thinking cap on! :0) Sean
  9. I used to play the 45 Martin. Hardly ever missed a night at Clifton, Cleggy or KGB without playing it. Top bit o' 80's :0) Sean
  10. I just gave the clip a listen. No way is that Chuck Jackson (but I can see why it might be 'covered' as such) Lacks the tone, depth, power and brilliant vocal modulation of Chuck. This sounds to me like a guy who is lacking in all four. He even sounds shaky and breathless in parts, where CJ always had power to burn. On second listen, it's an OK Demo, but it lacks the commitment that either Jackson or King would have ever given it. Reckon Chuck would have Killed it! Sean
  11. Early Malaco indemand 'Crossover' 45 from the underrated Hank Sample. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LxIOTQ4umU Sean
  12. A slab of Bobby 'Boro' Bland on one of the finest Soul ballads of the mid 80's. Angel! Sean
  13. A huge Real Soul hit for ZZ Hill, oft covered, never bettered! Sean
  14. A taste of midtempo magic from the pen of Sam Dees. Now enjoying a new lease of life up at Just Soul. Sean
  15. A most sublime ballad from JT with "Everything's Out In The Open" Majestic! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpRe7fl-BkM Sean
  16. A few of my MALACO faves comin' up! First, a truly great George Jackson song from the Incredible Johnnie Taylor! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufxDwfvRkag Sean
  17. Actually, to some extent I'm with Martin on this. And I suppose it does depend on who the 'so called' DJ is! :0) Right... Last dip before dinner! Sean
  18. That's what the Mrs keeps saying Dave, but the iPhone is keeping me amused... between dips in the pool of course! :0) Sean
  19. Mmmm so which is worse, covering up a record, or stabbing a 'so called' DJ? I just asked Jeeves. Turns out you're one crazy mutha Martin. :0) Sean
  20. Brilliant Paul. :0) Dads were great back then weren't they! :0) My old fellas favourite was Toussaint McCall Nothing Takes The Place Of You. Simple but poignant lyrics, beautifully sung and it still brings a tear just thinking about how the old fella loved it. I moved your picture From my walls And I replaced them Both large and small And each new day Finds me so blue Nothing Takes the place of you I read your letters one by one And I still love you When it's all said and done And oh, my darling I'm so blue Because nothing Oh nothing Takes the place of you I, I write this letter It's raining on my window pane I, I feel the need of you Because without you Nothing seems the same So I'll wait Until you're home Again I love you But I'm all alone And oh my darling I'm so blue Because nothing Oh, but nothing takes the place of you. Sean
  21. Leon & The Whispers, Simon. Still incredibly rare 30 years after uncovered lol :0) Sean
  22. Amazing Paul. My dad was called Danny. We played the Jackie Wilson version at his funeral. The melody, "Londonderry Air" was popularised by my great, great, great, Grandfather, Denis O'Hampsey at the Irish Harpers Festival. It's a bit of a family 'theme tune' for us Hampsey's. :0) Sean
