  1. Brilliant, thanks Chalks. It was the scratched Matrix that made me question it, but now I see, its proper. What's funny is I even contributed to the old thread saying Rogers was just like mine... ...and it is! Senilty? Probably. Thanks mate. Sean
  2. Quite right Bob. Rookie mistake, wading in like that. Very disappointing Paul. Sean
  3. I'm aware of the RED Boot, but was this ever booted on a White Label double sided Promo? Had a copy since I was a lad. Looks right enough, but just wondered? Sean
  4. Yep, I remember Mick. Early 70's, before John Rose took over. Small world! Sean
  5. Guess someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse! :0) Sean
  6. Same at Just Soul, Mark. Folk arrive early doors to hear the Deep and Soulful stuff for the first couple of hours. It works well with the Just Soul crowd, because they appreciate quality soul, regardless of tempo. Sean
  7. Certainly was mate. Best playlist on the planet back then! Doobie Brothers 'Long Train Runnin' was a Monster! And Dave Growns was a God. :0) Did you go? Sean
  8. In one! Brought me right back that did! Brilliant. Sean
  9. Flipside of 'Our Favourite Melody' Rich, but only on the issues (demos are double sided). It's also on the 'Forever' LP which I used to play it from, before I realised it was on a 45 :0) Cheers, Sean
  10. ELO 'Showdown' is one of my favourite all time 'Soulful - Non Soul' records. In fact it was a pretty big tune at my fave Club in Rotherham, back in 73, played alongside the likes of Johnnie Taylor 'Who's Making Love' Jimmy James 'A Man Like Me' Blue Magic "Look Me Up" and Dean Parrish "I'm On My Way" etc. An eclectic and superb mix... and ELO fitted right into the groove! Sean

I played it at 100 Club a couple of months ago and it brought the house down! Hardcore Northern Soul! :0) Sean
  12. Andy Dyson played the 'Calendar' side in the lounge at Essence last year. It's the one side I wrote down to track down all weekend. Glad to say I managed to pick one up since. It didn't sound as good when I played it at home as it did in the lounge, if I'm honest (maybe I needed half a dozen pints down me to recreate the mood) but it's still quite nice... about sums it up! :0) Sean
  13. It aint Millie J... that's for sure. I own and listened to everything Millie has ever had issued and spent 6 months compiling the 22 track Millie Jackson 'Soul For The Dancefloor' CD with Ady C. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Soul-Dancefloor-Millie-Jackson/dp/tracks/B0013NBBHE/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1 Any loose ends, US Mixes and Re-Edits were done via the Master Tapes, which were scoured extensively at Kent by Ady & Tony (as Jocko suggests). If 'Seven Day Lover' had been there, you can bet it wouldn't have been missed. (And if it was... I'd be very upset... LOL) A doctored 'Raymond Smith' as Dean suggests or a frigged with James Fountain is almost a cert! :0) Sean
  14. This also, is a monumental slice of SOUL from Walter. Sean PS: I need a clean replacement copy of this if anyone would like to sell me one :0)
  15. There are many great tracks by Walter Jackson. This is definitely up there! Sean
  16. Yes there was John... a white label thang... but everyone has to own a proper one! One of the finest 45's ever recorded (IMO). Pure Quality up there with Charlene & Soul Serenaders 'Love Changes'. :0) Sean
  17. If anyone's interested, here's the delicious other side to 'Can You Win'. Pure Muscle Shoals Magic!
  18. I'd have said that was a really good summary and pretty much the way I understand developments over there Bob. :0) Sean
  19. Agreed Dave, me too! This is a classic double sider to my ears. I had the audacity to play the 'Can You win' side twice at the 100 Club when I DJ'd there a couple of months ago - and the floor was packed on both occasions. The other side 'Love Changes' is another level again, not so much as a dancer (although it is a pretty hot 'Just Soul' spin) but as a Pure Soul record that has the lot, great lyrics, vocals, band, the works... and its cheap as chips on the Volt Promo (so every home should have one IMO). A great 45 (on either label)... and I'm not surprised to see it escalating in price these days, TBH. Sean
  20. Superb stuff Steve. You da man for this! Good to see real Soul Music getting decent reviews. Brilliant news mate. Cheers, Sean
  21. Less than £4 including delivery! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Backbeats-They-Call-Crossover-More-Mid-Tempo/dp/B0062Y9CNE Wise choice mate. A true Yorkshire Soul Man! Sean
  22. https://www.demonmusicgroup.co.uk/Product.aspx?ProductID=5887#PI Would be remiss of me not to point you in the direction of new release compilation "They Call It Crossover" :0) Sean
  23. Yep - Not added my own Tips yet Simon! Sean
  24. Yep - Not added my own Tips yet Simon! Sean
  25. I've been dropping them down -6 the past few years Steve. Even 'You Satisfy My Needs' is considered a 'stomper' at Just Soul, LOL. Sean
