  1. I played it at 100 Club a couple of months ago and it brought the house down! Hardcore Northern Soul! :0) Sean
  2. Andy Dyson played the 'Calendar' side in the lounge at Essence last year. It's the one side I wrote down to track down all weekend. Glad to say I managed to pick one up since. It didn't sound as good when I played it at home as it did in the lounge, if I'm honest (maybe I needed half a dozen pints down me to recreate the mood) but it's still quite nice... about sums it up! :0) Sean
  3. It aint Millie J... that's for sure. I own and listened to everything Millie has ever had issued and spent 6 months compiling the 22 track Millie Jackson 'Soul For The Dancefloor' CD with Ady C. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Soul-Dancefloor-Millie-Jackson/dp/tracks/B0013NBBHE/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1 Any loose ends, US Mixes and Re-Edits were done via the Master Tapes, which were scoured extensively at Kent by Ady & Tony (as Jocko suggests). If 'Seven Day Lover' had been there, you can bet it wouldn't have been missed. (And if it was... I'd be very upset... LOL) A doctored 'Raymond Smith' as Dean suggests or a frigged with James Fountain is almost a cert! :0) Sean
  4. This also, is a monumental slice of SOUL from Walter. Sean PS: I need a clean replacement copy of this if anyone would like to sell me one :0)
  5. There are many great tracks by Walter Jackson. This is definitely up there! Sean
  6. Yes there was John... a white label thang... but everyone has to own a proper one! One of the finest 45's ever recorded (IMO). Pure Quality up there with Charlene & Soul Serenaders 'Love Changes'. :0) Sean
  7. If anyone's interested, here's the delicious other side to 'Can You Win'. Pure Muscle Shoals Magic!
  8. I'd have said that was a really good summary and pretty much the way I understand developments over there Bob. :0) Sean
  9. Agreed Dave, me too! This is a classic double sider to my ears. I had the audacity to play the 'Can You win' side twice at the 100 Club when I DJ'd there a couple of months ago - and the floor was packed on both occasions. The other side 'Love Changes' is another level again, not so much as a dancer (although it is a pretty hot 'Just Soul' spin) but as a Pure Soul record that has the lot, great lyrics, vocals, band, the works... and its cheap as chips on the Volt Promo (so every home should have one IMO). A great 45 (on either label)... and I'm not surprised to see it escalating in price these days, TBH. Sean
  10. Superb stuff Steve. You da man for this! Good to see real Soul Music getting decent reviews. Brilliant news mate. Cheers, Sean
  11. Less than £4 including delivery! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Backbeats-They-Call-Crossover-More-Mid-Tempo/dp/B0062Y9CNE Wise choice mate. A true Yorkshire Soul Man! Sean
  12. https://www.demonmusicgroup.co.uk/Product.aspx?ProductID=5887#PI Would be remiss of me not to point you in the direction of new release compilation "They Call It Crossover" :0) Sean
  13. Yep - Not added my own Tips yet Simon! Sean
  14. I've been dropping them down -6 the past few years Steve. Even 'You Satisfy My Needs' is considered a 'stomper' at Just Soul, LOL. Sean
  15. Mr G, With no title suggested it couldn't be considered a proper Top Tip. Also, if it requires +6 before it becomes a 'dancer' then I'm not sure that would be 'proper' either. However, since you've now provided the title, I'll review the situation. Sean
  16. No I didn't Mark, I saw it and read it as a comment on Simon M's first post and that some obscure DJ known as 'Corner Boy' had just got it! Will squeeze it in for you... if you ask me nice! On that subject, t'would be really helpful if people listed Artist - Title - Label in the way I've formatted the above! Cheers, Sean

  18. Hey Bob, I know that's what you meant, hence the . And you didn't ruin the thread, just added a smile... and a bit of spice! Its all good and there's some legs in this baby yet! Just had a listen to the track "Be Your Man"... its OK... the McCant Brothers it would appear... but I won't be paying what it seems to be going for! I like to pick em up for a dollar... and then see em escalate to 20 bucks! Cheers Bob, you just keep 'em coming. Like Russ and Kev said already, your contributions are always excellent! All the best, Sean
  19. Cheers Bob.... What's the title?... is it "Be Your Man"? I'm onto it while all the others are sleeping LOL! Sean
  20. Sorry folks, been out of action, in bed ill, since I started the thread and not been able to catch up properly from my iPhone. Bob, you made me smile anyway and it certainly seems like that at times. Certainly most Soul collectors, at one time or another, have picked up a little known 45, just wonderin' (Hopin') if it'll be the next biggie (...and command the biggie price tag to go with it!). I doubt we've exhausted the thread just yet... there must be plenty more tunes out there that deserve some attention on these pages (if not, we can all wrap up and call it a day LOL). So tomorrow, I'll do a quick roundup and let's see how the list is looking. Hopefully the thread will have ignited a bit of interest in a few choice cuts and we'll be hearing some of 'em out and about in the coming months. So... anymore for anymore? Let's be knowing! Cheers, Sean
  21. Nice start folks. Some 30 odd titles - all very diverse as predicted! Will get a few more under the belt and then compile a list. Keep 'em coming! Sean
  22. Hi all, Well, its that time of year again It's 12 months since we did the last 'Top Tips' thread... so, as it's now a Soul Source tradition, here we go again! Here's your opportunity to tip the tunes in your box for fu... Tap to view this Soul Source News/Article in full
  23. Hi all, Well, its that time of year again It's 12 months since we did the last 'Top Tips' thread... so, as it's now a Soul Source tradition, here we go again! Here's your opportunity to tip the tunes in your box for future greatness, during the forthcoming year... or simply list any number of records that you'd like to recommend to other Soul Sourcers. You might be a DJ with that tasty unplayed, unknown, hardly played or semi-known 45 stuck in the back of your box that you'd love to play out... but haven't quite got around to it... yet! You might be a collector, sitting on a tune that you know, if it got into the right hands, could become massive in the next 12 months. It could be an LP track that, for whatever reason, has never been given the recognition it deserves. It might be a tasty 'B' side that, given the right exposure, might just have what it takes to become a monster! We're talking, Northern, Modern, Crossover or 'Just Soul' Whatever floats your boat! With increased diversity around these days, this should be an interesting list! No need to post sound clips. Just let us know what you've got that you think deserves a really big plug in the coming year! So come on. Look at your box and let's have your top tip (or tips) for 2012. Oh... and a Happy (and Soulful) New Year to all! Sean Hampsey

We're looking forward to sharing a couple of hours of 'Just Soul' music with you! Happy New Year 'Just Soul' People! Sean
  25. Just re-read the Jackson interview scan and it confirms that STNOD was due to come out on Soul City under CBS. That backs up info from Dave that they had been trying to switch distribution from Philips to CBS for SC120 but, because of 'events' at that time the Soul City operation went bust before the deal concluded.
