Hi Waggy, Long time no see mate. That's a bit like saying there are too many shops, parks, supermarkets, solicitors, football teams etc. There's a bit more 'choice' around that in previous years. As the poster above inferred, anyone can put on a Soul Night these days (even if it is only to play to their mates). We're not little boys anymore! So a lot of folk who would never have ventured into the deep waters of promoting (or DeeJaying) are now having a go... good luck to 'em, they'll rise or fall on their ability to please and entertain. So where do you get to these days? Sean

Not read all the small print, but you should know that Patti Jo kept performing and even recording until right up to her death in 2007. She lived in Spain and toured Europe for about 10 years in the 80's performing with her husband Ed and the Platters. When Ed had a stroke they returned to the US and Patti became a certified Nurse in order to care for him. They actually cut two albums together in more recent years. Ed had recovered quite well and they stayed in touch with the music business, up until 2007, when sadly, aged 58, Patti herself suffered a stroke and passed away that night. Even as late as 2006, Patti was recording and actually cut a version of the classic 'Mockingbird' with our very own Pato Banton! Sean

The scene in Yorkshire (since declaring UDI) is extremely healthy! Joking apart, I'd be very interested in hearing about scenes that grew in parallel to the UK variant, without them necessarily being aware of or influenced by the UK Soul / Collecting or 'Northern' scene, either in its heyday or in recent times. I was always aware of a Soul fan culture (particularly Southern) in Holland, Belgium and Japan, for the past 40 odd years, but would like to know more about these and others. Sean

Still reeling from a fabulous afternoon of Soul by the Waterfront. Hooked up with long time old friends Dave Milne, who'd travelled up from London and Darryl Gunson who came down all the way from Bonnie Scotland along with the very lovely Blake and Nicky, from just around the corner. Was literally blown away by the choices of music from all the DJ's. Those playlists bear testament to the most open music policy I've encountered in many years. No, same old, same old, hotbox nonsense with these guys. Diversity is the order of the day, with Passionate Soul fans behind the decks, rolling out Soulful quality one after another. But it wasn't just what was played, it was the way they played em that made it so refreshing! Crossover classic, Vivian Reed "Save Your Love For Me" followed by Motown Monster, the Temptations 'Girl Why You Wanna Make Me Blu' then (as if you were listening to some random, off the wall, Soulful Juke Box, the dulcit tones of Jimmy Cobb "So Nobody Else Can Hear". A truly impressive array of tunes, on one of the warmest days of the year, with an even warmer 'Yorkshire' welcoming crowd, while overlooking the stunningly tranquil waterfront in one of the most beautiful city's on the planet. It's hard to imagine a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Big thank you for asking me along. Your superb venue should only go from strength to strength. Bloody loved it. Motown soundalike, Chicago Monster, the Blueprint for the early Northern Soul scene on its pre-release date (5th Nov 1965) Acetate.

Bit of an iconic piece this... from the pen and vocal chords of the late, great, Nick Ashford.

One of the biggest records on the scene, back in 83... the old 'Leon & The Whispers" cover up... impossible on an issue 45 (only 3-4 known copies?) so how scarce and desirable the Acetate!
