  1. Agree. Top Record. The next BIG tune Steve & Tony?? Sean Hampsey
  2. Well that confirms it Steve as far as I'm concerned. The Continental Four is 'bubbling under' down south, before it goes BIG nationwide. What did I tell ya! Sean Hampsey
  3. Great taste Mate. David Sea - Phillip Mitchell - And Freddie Waters! All Top Drawer Sean Hampsey
  4. Sorry Gavin, I thought you were much older than that... You have the ears and taste of a much more mature fellow!
  5. I have it too Steve and I like it too! Also has a great version of "I Never Found A Girl" on the flipside! Sean Hampsey
  6. Actually chaps, I played The Invitations "Look On The Good Side" at The Charade in Rotherham as a new release (in 1974) some 10 years prior to Stafford... alongside Brothers Guiding Light "Getting Together", Dramatics "Choosing Upon You" the 'other' Invitations track "They Say The Girls Crazy"... and other such 'newies' of the day. By the time it made Stafford I'd already hammered it (as a moldie oldie) at Clifton Hall (Rotherham). I believe that it was also played at the Mecca when new, or soon after. Great Record. Sean Hampsey
  7. Funny that, I've not heard it played out at anywhere I've been in the past 10 years. Good news though if that's the case. I guess I dont get out enough! Sean Hampsey
  8. I've got the advert Pete in an old B&S and I seem to recall it was promoted as a three tracker at the time, although as the label (Soul City) folded the 444 concept was also aborted so I guess it might have come out on either logo... but actually came out on neither! I've also got an old 444 advert, but can't recall any of the planned releases other than Sam Nesbitt's Black Mother Goose / Chase Those Clouds Away. Sean Hampsey
  9. Nice one Darren, that's why I put the "LP Only" in quotes. We all thought it was on the LP for years, but John Benson told me he'd seen a 45 some time back and then I turned up the acetate. Even then, pretty hard to come by... so it IS a rarity after all! Cheers Sean
  10. Here You Go! DeVaughan Magic! Sean Hampsey
  11. Uncanny Simon, I was only thinking about those this morning following on from your mention of Annis. They were all big Cleggy records that have never (hardly ever) been played out since, but how they rocked the place at the time! Good n' cheap, readily available records that had the right tempo and Soulful content. It was all going so well... before the scene went retro and rarity became the only thing that mattered!! As a wind up (and a big finger to the Rare Soul brigade) I used to play the Whispers covered up as LEON & THE WHISPERS. Sam would break his neck to find out what it was and I'd just say. "Like it says on the label, its by The Whispers". He wanted it badly... until he found out that it actually was the Whispers. Meanwhile, I picked up a great looking 10" Capitol Acetate of this "LP only" track which must be shit rare! Good times. Sean Hampsey
  12. I always felt that "Groovin'" by The Young Rascals & "Oh How Happy" Shades of Blue were great Summer time tunes from the 60's. William DeVaughn "Be Thankful For What You've Got" takes some beating though. Diamond In The Back, Sunroof Top, Diggin The Scene, With a Gangsta Lean, Oh Yeh! Sean Hampsey
  13. No Ken, from Manfred Mann. Ken, if you don't know the record, check it out. Superb old 'club soul' tune from way back when. Sean Hampsey
  14. The next big tune could well be: The Continental Four "The Way I Love You" Jay walking Or... The Perfections "Girl You Better Hurry" Tri City Both meet the criteria I reckon... readily available, under exposed and primed for the big time! Buy now while stocks last. Sean Hampsey
  15. "Invitation" by A Band Of Angels always (still) does it for me. Piccadilly 7N 35292 - Mike D'Abo at his best. Also, surprised no mention of Julian Covay "A Little Bit Hurt" (Nottinghams finest - Next to Tats Taylor of course) and The Anglos "Incense" Pure Class! Sean Hampsey
  16. You've Been So Wonderful To Me Bill, When Are You Coming Back I'm Living In Shame Some Things You Never Get Used To Where Do I Go From Here All Soul Supreme! Sean Hampsey
  17. Mike Raven Horror Page https://www.kitleyskrypt.com/mikeraven.htm If you like that sort of thing! Sean
  18. Hi Derek, Mine's a Double sider. And stone mint! Wouldn't sell mine for £125... no way! Sean Hampsey
  19. Fond memories indeed. Annis was first played by me and Steve Croft at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens along with Mandrill "My Kind Of Girl", Ronnie Dyson "Lady In Red" etc. We used to spend the Saturday afternoon going through our play boxes and deciding what we were going to "break" that night. Both of us would play the one track twice in each spot. By the end of the night we'd created a Monster! Have to say though, Annis is one track I'm not particularly proud of but the tempo and feel were so right for what we were trying to do at the time.. I saw a copy in Ian Clarks sales box at Soul Essence the other week and blushed. In fact I always thought it was actually a Europen recorded track on a UK label? Either way, a minor piece of history! Sean Hampsey
  20. Happens to me all the time Pete. Me and my old mate John (Footnote) Benson would often start talking about a particular hard to find tune and then, the following day, turn up a copy in a Dr Barnados for 10p (or similar). Really spooky stuff. I've fulfilled most of my wants over the years just by talking about 'wanting them'. It's the Universal Mind I reckon! Sean Hampsey PS: Thanks for the "I've Never Considered" 45 that we were talking about... that you turned up for me... the very next day!!
  21. I cant confirm it, but I've always thought it. From first hearing "Everybody Crossfire" (covered up as Jerry Ross back then) I swore it was Chubby Checker - such an uncanny resemblence in vocal phrasing. I could well imagine old Chubby doing a little moonlighting across town at Swan under the pseudynym of Sammy Sevens.
  22. That's true Trevor and she IS an Angel. Been looking out for Paris since her first audition when she did Billy's "Take Five" so superbly. Can't wait for her to record. An amazing voice and a genuine Soul discovery from American Idol. Sean Hampsey
  23. Hi Russ, Wee Gee, ex Dramatic, made a nice LP in 1980 on Cotillion that I used to play a track from at Bradford, early eighties, "Aint Nothing Missing (But The Music)". I think he passed away 5/6 years ago. Real name William Howard. Worth picking up.Superb singer. CD is in process by the way. Hope you're well. Best regards Sean Hampsey
  24. Hi Bull, I received the CD and I've already got the Tony Troutman track but on my copy I'm sure it's called "I Truly Love You" so you threw me there! Got all the other material on the CD too but a truly wonderful compilation nontheless me old Bullmeister. your taste is improving with age! Time you made a visit to the Basement too! Cheers Sean
