  2. Top Man Steve. Looking forward to it. If you forget, I'll just help myself to a selection from your playbox instead, if that's OK! Cheers Sean
  3. Amazing coincidence... was listening to Bobby Reed 'I'll Find A Way' on the way into the office this morning! Luvverly record. Van McCoy Perfection! Sean Hampsey
  4. Had a fantastic 4-5 hours in Shepards Bush, Record & Tape Exchange and other favourite haunts around that time - early 80's. Came away with 2 large plastic bags full of 45's & LP's... and left one of them on a tube somehere on my way up to Wembley. Often wonder whether the person who found them ever got into the music! Sean Hampsey
  5. A good while since I've seen Graham. About 25 years ago I spent many a happy hour at his house going through his records (and yes, he still had the Professionals amongst his vast UK collection). Last time I saw him was in 86 at Rotherham Clifton Hall "Harlem Shuffle". But i aint seen Hode Nor Hair since that day! On the other hand, Alf Billingham was in my office only last Friday. See him regularly as he's in the music business and manages some fine talent. He's getting himself wed, later this year, to a lovely lass called Laura. Top Bloke Alf. One of the best! Sean Hampsey
  6. Wow! small world Pete. I knew my memory wasn' playing tricks on me! I always thought it was the same version as the LP version... and the Spanish 45. Worth checking it tho' now you have both. Graham bought my Incredibles Stateside Demo, Garnett Mimms Demo, PP Arnold etc and loads of other big money British stuff off me way back when Not seen him for about 18 years. Miss him... ...and the records! Sean Hampsey
  7. Hi Pete, I have the 45 with a Picture Sleeve also, which I bought as a replacement for a..... wait for it...................a.............. UK copy................. on a BBC 45...... acetate that I sold to Graham Coates ... about 25 years ago for £15!!!! Sean Hampsey
  8. Yes please Peter, kind sir! Always up for a freebie... scruffy old thing or not!! (and a bloody awful record to Boot! ). I think you've got my address and I'll pay the postage. Please PM me and lets give the scruffy divil a good home. Cheers. Top Man Pete. Sean
  9. Steve, I've a few Northern Ireland Bank notes I've been trying to get shut of. Will do a 2 for 1 if you like? Sean
  10. Awesome Derek! Brought me back a bit they did. Good to see young 'Yammy' with a 'Smile On'... which is how I always remember him Great stuff mate. Any more? Sean Hampsey
  11. Gotcha Mark! Wasn't sure if you (or everyone else) knew that Frank resides in Ozzie land. You're dead right about zero feedback and pinched scan being a bit of a giveaway. Cheers Sean
  12. Guys, Frank is in Australia and if he says the guy 'auctioning' the record is dodgy I guess it would be best to take heed. Sean
  13. Agree. Always rated this track... along with "Time Will Tell" Sean Hampsey
  14. The 'United' album was a Gospel / Soul album on the 'New Cross Gospel Series' label. The title track is a superb ballad, but the only tracks from this LP that would work on the dancefloor would be "Thank You For Saving Me" or "Holy Ghost" both excellent 80's dancers. On the subject of gorgeous, falsetto neo gospel numbers, check out Little Anthony's 'Daylight' LP on the Songbird label for a blinding track in "Love Was Born For Me". Probably one of the finest 'unplayed / undiscovered' 80's dancers. Ya hoyd it here foyst! Sean Hampsey
  15. Soul Sounds Label (images) One of each colour! Apologies for the delay. Sean Hampsey
  16. Yes I think you're right about the Shirley Ellis. seem to think now, on reflection, that either "The Name Game" was on the flip... or "Nitty Gritty"... as opposed to "Waitin" on the proper release....goddam alzheimers! Sean
  17. Hi Jerry, I have the Red Boot "Invitations" (somewhere) and have had the Dean Parrish. I also seem to think that Shirley Ellis "Soul Time" was booted on the orange Soul Town too... or was that on the flip? Sean Hampsey
  18. Agree 100%. Great Soul Record. One of the better GSF things. Always rated it and played it at Cleethorpes on a number of occasions (early 80's). Thanks for the Mp3. Sean Hampsey
  19. Tats, My Lovable Brother. Thanks for verifying the story. When I saw the video at your house, if you recall, I nearly pissed all over you. A Stunning Ballad. Welcome to Soul Source... Foolish Fool! Sean
  20. Yes, I've heard this on many occasions, but by all accounts, they wrote the song together, ...which is why some credit Elbert as the writer. It cost them their friendship, or so I'm lead to believe. At least that's what I'm told ( but I imagine it was because he was probably knobbing his Mrs!) Sean
  21. Another couple of decent Banks Bio links: https://soulfuldetroit.com/web09-darrell%20...ragic%20end.htm https://atdetroit.com/040707-AtdetroitNewsR...nksMemorial.htm All the above, slightly off topic, I know, so apologies. To answer the original post, I much prefer the DB version. Sean Hampsey
  22. I present my evidence and a nice little 'Bio' of the great man. https://www.answers.com/topic/darrell-banks Quote: The man considered by many as soul's finest voice was shot dead March 1970 in Detroit by Aaron Bullock, an off duty policeman who was seeing Banks' woman (Marjorie Bozeman). He was waiting when Bullock dropped Bozeman off after work; when Banks grabbed her, Bullock intervened, Banks pulled a gun, and the officer reacted with deadly force ending Banks' four turbulent years as a recording artist/entertainer. Bozeman, a barmaid, allegedly was trying to leave Banks, who was divorced and the father of two kids. So in summary, they both had pistols and I guess they were both doing the 'knobbing' Sean
  23. As I always understood it, the 'Lady' was Darrell's girlfriend and the off-duty cop was the one doing the surreptitious 'knobbing'. Of course, whoever was actually doing the 'knobbing' does not alter the fact that Banks was a fine artist, cut down in his prime. Sean
  24. John Rhys was the first professor of Welsh at Oxford University. Whereas, the 'Tartans' were almost certainly from North of the Border. Slainte! Sean (Irish Extraction)
