  1. I like it. Sounds as good as (or better than) most of the recent product that I've come across (If more 'Modern' stuff was as good or distinctive and as evidently 'Soulful' as this I'd probably buy more of it). I think you're right, in that it sounds like it could be Huge for the dancefloor. Not at all bad on the eardrums either (although late Friday nights I normally go for a more mellow mood). Thanks a lot for the post. Sean Hampsey
  2. Well You're not having mine! Anybody agree that the 'B' side is 'So Right For Now" as they say? Aint No Man, Like My Man. Triffic! Sean Hampsey
  3. Aha! How much does that go for now? I think the Flip side is Triffic! Also got the one on 'Dove' but I reckon the one on 'Right On' is also pretty scarce. Am I right? How much did it go for, if you dont mind me asking? Sean
  4. Johnnie Taylor (and Floyd) Joe Simon Lamont Dozier David Ruffin Lenny Williams Garland Green Bobby Womack Willie Tee Jackie Moore Millie Jackson Shirley Brown Spot 'em a mile off! Some of the finest Voices in the history of the world! Love 'em all! Sean Hampsey
  5. Mick Godfrey, theres a Blast from the past! Had a few of bits off Mick that went on to become biggies at the time. High Fashion - 'Hold On' on Capitol, Skip Mahoney 'Running' on Abet etc. Smooth as a Baby's arse Mick. Sean
  6. Hi Gareth, So the reviews worked then! Been waiting 23 years for some feedback! The record took me a while to break at Sheffield and Clifton Hall etc. but Cleethorpes was a much more open minded scene than most, in order to break absolute unknowns. Everything played seemed to go MASSIVE overnight... and most of them have sustained their popularity into this century (I always felt that, in some ways, we were ahead of our time). Would be interesting to see what other tracks from the same period (Clifton Hall & Cleethorpes) have gone on to become classics and equally to see which have been consigned to the archives... and possibly due for reactivation. You're right. Very happy days. Sean Hampsey
  7. Confirmation then! Normally makes about £100 - £120 but has gone for less on eBay, as I said. Problem though for Ollie is, by the time they're on Popsike they've already gone! Sean
  8. Yeh, me too Darren. Flipped it over and Whhooosh! a Perfect Ann Sexton 'YBGTL' Soundalike that had been totally ignored. I first spun it at Sheffield (KGB) but if you recall, I also played it a few times at Clifton Hall and it was an everplay in my Cleethorpes sets, early eighties, once it had started getting accepted. Bound to get a spin at the upcoming CLIFTON HALL REUNION (Plug Plug). See you there old chum! Sean
  9. Yup, You should never shoot your shot too soon! You're right though, both crackin' sides but 'So Much Better' (an old Thorne fave from about 15 years ago) edges it for me! Sean
  10. Guys, (IMO) The flip side is 'So Much Better!' Sean
  11. Hi Ollie, It's The flip side of ace deepie 'Long Walk, On A Short Pier' on a Duke label 45. It's an old spin of mine from circa 1980 and it is now an acknowledged classic. Normally makes about £100 - £120 but has gone for less on eBay. Happy hunting Sean Hampsey
  12. Eyup Ken All TMG 864's have NYCLYM on them. Its the TMG 604 you're thinking about, with Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me on the Topside and Dont You Miss Me on the flip! Sean
  13. Shouldn't worry mate. Bet its the only decent record he'd got! sean
  14. Always loved this and put it on many a tape over the years! Fits the Bill spot on, Totally underrated. Sean
  15. Like the WASTED track Pete. Very much like The Valentinos "Its All Over Now" in parts. Jagger would have had a field day on this one! Sean PS: Nice Ranwood mate!
  16. Eyup Ken, Guess you weren't listening when I played it 20+ years ago (covered as L C Cooke) at Bradford! Or maybe you were? Sean
  17. Saw her in Vegas a couple of years ago. Agree with all of the above. Just Incredible! Sean
  18. Agree Matt that 'some' tracks have been played as new releases (I've made a bit of a career of it myself) and infact the Northern scene was founded on records that were either new or only 4-5 years old, but that's why I stated that the scene 'often needs to have' rather than 'always'needs to have'. Sadly, though, I think you'll agree, its more often than not that Soul Music itself is way ahead of the 'Northern' Soul scene's ability to absorb it. There are dozens of tracks that should have been played when new, snubbed at the time, only to be later 'discovered' or deemed acceptable many years later. Good to see the above track getting the thumbs up though in the poll, if only belatedly. But dont ya' all just wonder what tracks came out in the last 12 - 18 months... that the Northern Scene should have played... rather than waiting until 2010. Sean Hampsey
  19. I'm Going all The Way was Huge as a new release at PITCHES, Rotherham. I just cant fathom (and never have been able to) why the Northern scene often needs to have a 10 - 15 year incubation period before it can accept a Soul track (see the Al Mason thread - i.e. only just acceptable now!). Tragic... but you've heard my rant on this subject before! Across The Board... was a phrase first used at PITCHES to mean just that. Soul Music... Across the board... all eras, all tempo's for all tastes! Sean Hampsey
  20. You're very welcome. Sean Champman has an issue for sale according to his website! https://www.chapmanrecords.co.uk/ Hope that helps. Great record! Cheers Sean
  21. Its on UK Tamla Motown TMG 864 and can be got for around £80 on an issue, or £125+ for the Green / White Demo. The White label is a Boot. Happy Hunting Sean Hampsey
  22. Missing Nothing Alan, One of my least favourites from the Thorne era. A bit of Uptempo Disco I reckon. That's about it... but at the time Kev and I joked that 'one day' the Northern Scene would catch onto it. Yes, must speak before the weekend Alan. Sean
  23. Sell it Alan! You've got far better records and it should help towards the Wedding Costs! OUCH! Looking forward to next Saturday mate. Digging out me Shirley Lawson especially for you! Sean Hampsey
  24. Different again to my copy Pete... where the label stock ... is GREEN! Sean Hampsey
