Seen the draft CH reunion flyer. You get first billing, as always

    Steve,

No need to be upset. Apart from my impeccable taste in music, vast knowledge (See Latest Quiz), Prowess behind the decks and enormous record collection I'd just put that down to my boyish charm and good looks!

Looking forward to sharing the platform with you once again old mate, after these 20+ years. A pleasure and a privelege.

    We'll have a ball!

  2. Nice One Kev,

Yes Dave Rimmer already mentioned that Freddie Gorman was a Postman. I must admit that he didn't immediately spring to mind last night, but I'm sure that he Dave is correct.

Always thought that R Dean Taylor was also a Postman, but could be my memory playing tricks on me.

Certainly no great shakes as a singer!

I'll leave the Q3 lyric to someone else eh?

Might be best if I sit out the next Quiz. Kinda spoils the fun for everyone else.

Oh... and for future Reference I normally go to bed about 1.00am.

    Thanks Kev.

    Really good sport!

  3. Linda Jones "For Your Precious Love" takes some licking for vocal hystrionics!

Bettye Lavette "Let Me Down Easy" magnificent, especially when she cuts loose towards the end.

Aretha Franklin "Don't Play That Song" (and many others). Such awesome power!

    All immediately spring to mind.

  4. Good Man Lenny.

    You've got impeccable taste Sir!

I've been plugging it for well over 10 years - Interesting how it's taking so long to get noticed.

It's certainly the least formulaic of all his 45's and just builds and builds throughout.

I'm sure though that the day will come for "When Your Love Is Gone"... and everybody will want one.

  7. Had a fantastic 4-5 hours in Shepards Bush, Record & Tape Exchange and other favourite haunts around that time - early 80's.

Came away with 2 large plastic bags full of 45's & LP's... and left one of them on a tube somehere on my way up to Wembley.

Often wonder whether the person who found them ever got into the music!

  8. A good while since I've seen Graham.

About 25 years ago I spent many a happy hour at his house going through his records (and yes, he still had the Professionals amongst his vast UK collection).

Last time I saw him was in 86 at Rotherham Clifton Hall "Harlem Shuffle". But i aint seen Hode Nor Hair since that day!

On the other hand, Alf Billingham was in my office only last Friday. See him regularly as he's in the music business and manages some fine talent.

He's getting himself wed, later this year, to a lovely lass called Laura.

Top Bloke Alf. One of the best!

  9. Sean, I've got that BBC acetate and I always thought it was a live recording from a session...though thinking about it, maybe it is the same version. (When I say I've got the BBC acetate I mean Graham taped it for me about 14 years ago)

    Wow! small world Pete.

I knew my memory wasn' playing tricks on me!

I always thought it was the same version as the LP version... and the Spanish 45. Worth checking it tho' now you have both.

Graham bought my Incredibles Stateside Demo, Garnett Mimms Demo, PP Arnold etc and loads of other big money British stuff off me way back when

Not seen him for about 18 years.

    Miss him...

    ...and the records!

  10. As far as I know, and I am happy to be corrected, this is the only known release of The Impressions doing Nothing Can Stop Me.

    Hi Pete,

I have the 45 with a Picture Sleeve also, which I bought as a replacement for a..... wait for it...................a.............. UK copy................. on a BBC 45...... acetate that I sold to Graham Coates ... about 25 years ago for £15!!!!

  11. I've got a Human Beinz you can have for nothing. I had 2 last month, sold a mint one, this ones a scruffy old thing but you're welcome to it if you want it. Just got to find it.

    Yes please Peter, kind sir!

Always up for a freebie... scruffy old thing or not!! (and a bloody awful record to Boot! :P ).

I think you've got my address and I'll pay the postage.

Please PM me and lets give the scruffy divil a good home.

    Cheers. Top Man Pete.

  12. Ey up Sean....

Just presumed he meant hiding from buyers over here.... hence comment on distance/location of seller....

Wasn't questioning it being "dodgy".... new seller with a "borrowed" scan says it all ranting_1.gif ....

    Gotcha Mark!

Wasn't sure if you (or everyone else) knew that Frank resides in Ozzie land. You're dead right about zero feedback and pinched scan being a bit of a giveaway.

    :shades:

    Cheers

  13. Whilst there have been a number of excellent threads on '80s soul recently I thought I'd see if anyone out there can remember an album track by Eddie Holman. Was a Gospel album released early '80s and had a track played quite a lot at Stafford.

Anyone know it, remember and can remind me of title of track, name of album and a sound file would be the icing on the cake!

The 'United' album was a Gospel / Soul album on the 'New Cross Gospel Series' label. The title track is a superb ballad, but the only tracks from this LP that would work on the dancefloor would be "Thank You For Saving Me" or "Holy Ghost" both excellent 80's dancers.

On the subject of gorgeous, falsetto neo gospel numbers, check out Little Anthony's 'Daylight' LP on the Songbird label for a blinding track in "Love Was Born For Me". Probably one of the finest 'unplayed / undiscovered' 80's dancers.

    Ya hoyd it here foyst!

  14. Not on the flip Sean, as I remember it was the same as the legit release - but interestingly, as those of us crusty enough will remember, in those days US imports were pretty scarce, but the Invitations boot shows a number which refers to the Dynovoice US release.

    Hippo.

Yes I think you're right about the Shirley Ellis. seem to think now, on reflection, that either "The Name Game" was on the flip... or "Nitty Gritty"... as opposed to "Waitin" on the proper release....goddam alzheimers!

    Sean

  15. Talking of early boots, the first I bought were in '69 or maybe early 1970 - Invitations "What's wrong with me baby" on a red boot with no label name (to replace my sisters Stateside issue which I stupidly sold!) and Dean Parrish "Tell her" on orange Soul Town - no relation to the '73 era Soul Town boots, but has John M or anyone any info on these? one thing I know for a fact that is that I bought them off Gloucester legend Froggy Taylor!

    Hippo.

    Hi Jerry,

I have the Red Boot "Invitations" (somewhere) and have had the Dean Parrish. I also seem to think that Shirley Ellis "Soul Time" was booted on the orange Soul Town too... or was that on the flip?

  16. SEAN.

I STARTED SINGING "PLEASE OPERATOR" AND HE NEARLY PISSED ALL OVER ME.

HE INTRODUCED HIMSELF AS TONY JOHNSON, AND THEN ASKED ME TO GO OUT TO HIS CAR TO LISTEN TO AN UNRELEASED TRACK HE HAD BEEN CARRYING AROUND WITH HIM WRITTEN BY HIM AND BARRET STRONG.

SO I END UP SAT IN AN OLD PINK CONVERTABLE WITH THE HOOD DOWN, AT 2AM IN THE MORNING, FEELING MIGHTY UNCOMFORTABLE AS TONY SLIPPED A BACKING TRACK INTO THE TAPE DECK AND STARTED TO SING A LOVE BALLAD TO ME , AS THE BROTHERS AND PIMPS PASSED ON THE SIDEWALK. SURREAL!

    TATS

    Tats,

    My Lovable Brother.

Thanks for verifying the story. When I saw the video at your house, if you recall, I nearly pissed all over you.

    A Stunning Ballad.

Welcome to Soul Source... Foolish Fool!

    Sean
