  1. The Flipside to " All My Good Loving" - "The Elevator Song" - is a Tremendous tune! Which makes it a top double sider in my book! Sean
  2. Happened to me about a month ago. In a last minute snipe attack I bid £5,750 for a £60 record..... Won the record though! Sean
  3. Not heard the Marti Pellow track you refer to, but was there the night at the Town & Country Club when Willie Mitchell introduced said young Mr P onto the stage. You can imagine the howls of disapproval, considering we were all there to see Otis Clay, Ann Peebles, Lyn white and David Hudson, when this 'surprise guest' appeared to serenade us with his latest (Willie Mitchell produced) number. Poppa Willie was shocked that we didn't approve and later, backstage, I remember I had a difficult job explaining to him and the HI guys why we weren't exactly enamoured by Pellow's apearance. Sean
  4. Darren Harden (Awake 502) is a hi-fi EXPERT! Are you there Darren? He'll put you right. Not only for advice but also for supply. Sean
  5. Simon, The LP is from 1984. Sounded Wicked up loud 10 minutes ago! Might play it out tonight! Sean
  6. Thanks for the link Dave. A stunning website, fantastic photographs and soundfiles too! Always loved his Paramount 45 (both sides). Excellent stuff! Sean
  7. Mike Kersey. Telephone 0114 2649185. Dealt with him since 1978 and his R&R / 50's & 60's Vinyl knowledge is unsurpassed. Hope it turns out you're on a winner! Sean
  8. Much Respect Pete. Magnificent. Sean
  9. Always loved this (28 years since first played on these shores) but also rate the 'other' version on the Jessie Butler Bound Sound LP. (JB being the original lead on the ZZ & Co 45). Have another great 45 by him, "Free To Be Me" which also features on the Bound Sound LP. Good stuff! Sean
  10. --> QUOTE(mark.b @ Sep 28 2006, 05:29 PM) link dont you also have to be registered if you are a limited company? mark No. It's based on Turnover (sales / billings) regardless of status (incorporation / partnership etc.) If you're VAT registered it does have HUGE advantages, though. Sean
  11. You said it Gareth..... ...Webster stand aside.... "Sublime" is the word. I played it in the Deep Room at the first Soul Essence, but never have since! Must give it a spin tonight. "Sublime" Sean
  12. I got to admit it... I've got the record room of my dreams. A 400 sq foot fully tanked and soundproofed Basement with all my 45's in beautifully crafted cabinets, alphabetically filed by record label in 7.5" x 12" drawers, all down one wall, with LP's shelved down another. Seating for 6, Twin Decks and linked CD burner, Suspended Kef Speakers, the works. And a huge pile of empty, brown cardboard record packets, floor to ceiling . Sean
  13. Hi Jock, You're right. Dat Richfield Kat was Richard "Dimples" Fields own stable. He had 2 x 45's and 3 x LP's on the label (that I'm aware of). Sean
  14. Do you mean the female version of "Hey There Lonely Girl" in which case..."Hey There Lonely Boy" by Ruby & The Romantics? Sean
  15. Yes Sir, I believe that was me.... and if you recall, I actually only sold you the 20 year lease on it (for the measley £15).... which, as it happens, expires any time now. I'll pm you my address. Please pack it well. Cheers Sean
  16. BRILLIANT IDEA NUMBER 1. Have your website translated into Japanese. They've got loads of dough, buy tasty Soul records and are willing to pay the going rate. Any further 'BRILLIANT IDEAS' for web traders anyone? Sean
  17. Crikey Roger, Is there a Full Moon or wot? Lots of petty sniping going on, on these boards, over the past few days. I'm keeping out of it! But I do think Martyn's John Legend tip is a goodie! Sean
  18. Bit of a nightmare in the Car though Brett! Wouldn't go out of the door without my home spun CD compilations. Got to agree with you though, that indoors, dear old vinyl is the Daddy! Sean
  19. Sore subject and very painful to contemplate Malc, Soon after Clifton Hall and Cleethorpes ended I sold half of my collection and just kept the good stuff! The bits that went included... Charles Johnson - Never Had A Love So Good - Alston £10 Daybreak - I Need Love - PAP £15 Lew Kirton - Heaven In The Afternoon - Alston £5 ZZ & CO - Getting Ready For The Get Down - £10 CoCo & Benn - Good Feeling - £5 Pookie Hudson - This Gets To Me - Jamie £20 Ty Karim - Lightin Up - Romark £10 Minnie Jones - Shadow Of A Memory - Sugar £10 PP Arnold - Everything's Gonna Be Alright - UK Immediate £25 Incredibles - Theres Nothing Else To Say Baby - Stateside Demo £40 And thousands more. To shift them quicker and in quantity I sold 4 car loads to Rob Smith @ 10 pence each! He still buys me a pint though whenever he sees me! But I often think....good job I kept all the good stuff! Sean
  20. If this is the flip to "If We Can Fly To The Moon" (which I think it is) its got to be a £15 - £20 touch, hasn't it? Sean
  21. WWW's version of "There Goes My Used To Be" is a later version (Goldwax 329 -1967) of the original by O.V.Wright (Goldwax 106- 1964). It is a cracking record, but IMO not as good as the wistful and superb Pitches favourite, "I Don't Want To Take A Chance" which, as it happens, did not make it to a 45 release on Goldwax USA but did make it out on an impossibly scarce Vinyl Goldwax LP in Japan in 1977 and much later (1990's) on a Jap CD compilation prior to the 6T's 45. Both great tunes. His earlier Checker material well worth checking out too! Willie (allegedly) never received a cent for any of his Goldwax releases.... better luck though with his two superb, recent, CD's (along with the Butanes) which have been firm favourites with deep & Southern soul fans. 22. An Inspired Thread Shane! Chuck Jackson "What's With This Loneliness" does it for me, probably because it's one of the best things, from this magnificent vocalist, that he ever did, regardless of label! Pure Class! Just need the latest one now! Anyone? Sean Hampsey
  23. The Dixie Cups are some of my new best friends Pete, . I'm in a record shop just outside New Orleans a couple of years ago. Been talking to the owner for 20 minutes before I started piling through his stock at the back of the shop. Half an hour later, he calls to me, bet you'd like to meet these three ladies!. Sho nuff, it was the Dixie Cups, just called in to say hello. Talked about Red Bird... and all that stuff. They said that started out as Little Miss and The Muffets!... but never recorded under that name. Still touring (mainly Cruise's) after all these years. Sean Sean
  24. I believe his real name was Ural Thompson. Born in Portland Oregan, Ural Thomas had two 45's on UNI (that I'm aware of) UNI 55003 "Can You Dig It / I'm A Whole New Thing" and UNI 55017 "Pain Is The Name Of Your Game / Since You went Away" in 1967. Both can be picked up for around a tenner. Thomas also recorded a big money record, "Deep Soul " with Ron Buford and a 45 on Camelot (might be one and the same). He is 'supposed' to have had an LP, but I don't know for sure. Never seen one. In the 70's he was a backing singer with Wilson Pickett and still performs live in Portland and Seattle at various Blues festivals and with the Wheedles Groove crew (of Patrinell Staten fame). 25. "We're Doing Fine"....That will be the one.... although it has a similar intro, the backing track is not the same.... but that will be the one! Sean
