  1. Agree Roger. Providing the solid is made up of 100% solids from the CMYK of course. So what's your verdict, is it a boot or not? Sean
  2. Anyone else like it? Sean
  3. It does seem strange that a Japanese dealer/collector... who seems to have a couple of really nice originals on offer... would be selling one of the recent Boots as a proper one! Sean
  4. I've just enlarged the scan and you're right, the 'Moree Effect' is only on the light brown area, rather than on the type or on the 'Mountain' logo. Shocking!! Sean
  5. I saw that yesterday and thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt because its obviously from a Japanese collector... and he's got a proper Matt Brown and a Perfections up with it! I didn't think at first it was one of the recent boots... although the scan does look like it has a 'Moree effect' on it, which certainly makes it look dodgy. Would be very surprised if it turned out to be a Boot... from a Japanese collector. Whatever next? Sean
  6. Hi Martin, I played this at the last Soul Essence (listed in the programme as a new spin) and have raved over it a couple of times on here. It's a very scarce record, being one of the much later Instant tracks and I think it could well become quite pricey if given the exposure. The only reason it's not an acknowledged 'Big Ticket' item is because hardly anyone knows it. Pretty sure I wouldn't sell mine for less than £150 because I know it would be difficult to replace. Sort of a cross between "Shotgun Wedding" (Tempo) and "Girl I Love You".... if you can believe that! A Top Tip for anyone out there is this baby... get it if you can. Sean
  7. Thanks Mark, I like your style and fully understand and appreciate why you asked the original question. Personally, I've seen more than a few re-issues on the decks over the years, but I honestly believe that there needs to be a dotted line (at least) between the purist aspirations of the collector and the entertainment role of the DJ, who's main purpose should be to enlighten, delight and involve the crowd with good quality music. It would be pitiful if such a great record were excluded from your playlist (particularly when you have the seasoned 'good taste' to want to play it) on the basis that it's a 're-recording' or such. At a gig quite Recently I played the 21st century re-recording of Lou Pride's "I'm Coming Home In The Morning" to critical and quite positive acclaim. Hey, if it's good enough for Lou pride who am I to ignore it? But I don't give much of a damn about the 'knockers' particularly when the dancefloor were clearly having a great time and enjoying the track... because, I've always believed that as a Soul Music DJ... giving people a good time is what I'm paid to do. And sometimes (if not always ) that's what I'm about! Cheers Mark... and give it to 'em loud at the weekend! Sean
  8. Where did it all go wrong? In 1976 / 77 when the reissue first came about, every Northern DJ (including myself) in every club in the UK was playing this version / copy. How is it possible that... almost 30 years later... a DJ would risk getting 'shot down in flames' for playing such a FANTASTIC record! If anyone out there is so anally uptight that they'd complain or object they must be truly messed up. Jeez Mark.... damn the torpedoes and play the darn thing! Sean
  9. It would interest me Simon, but I dont tend to read 'manifesto' (apart from the Communist party one). What's he saying... in summary? Sean
  10. I don't know what this goes for on Helva 12" but I want one. Please let me give your spare or unwanted copy a good home. Many thanks Sean
  11. "You've Got To Leave... But You Can't Find.... Another Love.... As True As Mine........" My God, what a great truly record! Sean
  12. That's right mate, I always had a soft spot for "Let Me Down Easy" and though it was strikingly similar! I remember that you were fooled for months! Sean
  13. 5,000 Volts "I'm On Fire" Sean
  14. Pete, It was Tats Taylor & Gilly who filmed it in Johnnie Mae's Kitchen... sat at the table, with Audrey...belting out "I Have No Choice" exactly as you remember. The same trip yielded footage of Tony Johnson (of Tony & Tyrone) who lived in a car singing a sweet soul track over a backing track on the car cassette and Tim Murray singing "Thinking Of You" with Melvin Davis outside the Dog Track where Tim Murray works. Wicked footage, that you didn't dream... it just felt like it! Sean
  15. Hi Nev, As I understand it, an Acetate exists but it was not officially issued (except on a Kent CD - Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities). Audrey is the Daughter of the late Johnnie Mae and also lead (female) singer of Black Nasty. The Audrey label was named after her (I believe). Not as good as the version by her Mom (IMO) Sean
  16. Exactly! ...Never bleedin' lived Mate! Looks a Top Little Fella Pete. What ya feeding him on? Sean
  17. Looks as though Gareth Donovan has dealt with him (GIRTHDEVON on here). Suggest you pm him for any info. From the feedback the guy looks a bit slow on the uptake. Good luck! Sean
  18. Aha... Multiplecopyitis!..... A hugely infectious illness. I've got "Shake Off That Dream" by Eddie Billups on FOUR different labels and many other records that I rate on multiple vinyl label formats (US / UK / OZ / Irish etc.) The biggest addict of this dehabilitating 'I got to have every label' disease is my old mate John Benson who pretty much insists on owning the Issue, Demo, and 12" (where applicable) of almost everything. It's a funny old game. Sean
  19. It's very serious stuff Pete... Far too many lives have been lost and gallons of blood have been spilled over the years on this subject. It's the story of the Blues. Homeless children, battered wives, gnashing of teeth, people thrown out of their jobs onto the scrapheap of human misery. But you wouldn't understand... by the look of you on your photograph, you only look about 2 years old! Sean
  20. Yeh, it cost me £88.00 But then again... I sold it to you, two weeks later for £140. Sean
  21. You're probably right Tony, but I doubt very much whether you would have been the one to start the thread... and I'm damn sure that I wouldn't have either. Sean
  22. Amen to that statement. Soul Music has had to endure enough plagiarism and condemnation throughout the decades without having to deal with misinterpretation or a ready acceptance of dilution from those who purport to be Soul Music fans. I personally find such compromises insulting to the genre. Your examples of what constitutes a Soul Artist (Womack, Latimore, Millie Jackson etc.) are spot on in my book. I've always found that anyone who can't tell the difference probably isn't really listening. And before I get accused of being "Soulier Than Thou", as a classically trained musician, I'm quite happy (on occasion) to listen to non-soul music and have in my collection such a wide range of artists from The Chieftains to The Sandford Townsend Band... but I don't consider these genres to have anything to do with what I consider to be, or would describe to be, Soul Music. 23. No, well not in my case at least, since I am White and also of Celtic extraction. As I stated in my earlier post, we were all there to see Otis Clay, Ann Peebles, Lyn White and David Hudson and not a British POP idol.... which is the only fair description that befits the said Mr Pellow IMO. Sean
  24. It's a Paul Kelly Track. I've got it somewhere. Think it was one of the 'unreleased' Move things I was sent from around 84. Then can't help thinking it came out early 90's on a CD somewhere. I'll dig it out if i get the chance. A good tune. sean
