  1. Dunno then. I've got a 45 somewhere where Donnell Pitman is the lead vocalist on a Group track. Can't remember what it is though? Might that be it? Sean
  2. Your Love Is Dynamite?
  3. Love "The Makings Of You" "Give It Up" and "Love To Keep You In My Mind" ...to name but three! Also, just about everything with the Impressions. Good call Rich. Sean
  4. Not as good as yours Maark... but whatever turns ya'
  5. If we can include Various Artists L.P's.... Motown Charbusters Volume 3 gets my vote Life Changing! Outside of that "MPG" Marvin Gaye and "Artistry" Brenda Holloway take some beating. Must agree though that "Tempting Temptations" and "Temptations Sing Smokey" are priceless. Sean
  6. Love "Now He's Home" Gareth. Played the 45 on Little Star a few times down in the Deep Room. Sean
  7. Four Seasons / Rudies. Great Call! Scarborough was certainly a top place early - mid 70's. Sean
  8. Bless you my son. Yes, you have the hair, but there's far more Silver threads amongst the Gold these days. Stay home and listen to Wogan. Much more dignified for a man of your years. Sean
  9. Johnnie Taylor THE Voice of Soul Sean Hampsey
  10. It's a good 'un isnt it! As wekll as TRIP it also came out on "Little Star" originally and on an "UpFront" Reissue. Also think I've got a UK copy of the album on either Phoenix or DJM. Will check? Yes, some nice stuff on these here LP track compilations. Great initiative Chris. Must get mine copied soon. Don't wanna be the last one! Sean
  11. Is that right Dave? The Green one is also a nice midtempo dancer... in my book. I, genuinely, always thought that the only difference was the tinkly piano intro... from memory. Tim Brown originally found this (the light blue copy) and used to play it at Thorne. When the Green ones came through I thought that, other than the intro, they were exactly the same. Must give them both another listen. Sean
  12. Hey Dave, fortunately I'm not in an argumentative mood today... Don't know if you've ever been to Essence? It's the "Real Deal" as far as I'm concerned. A Really Great Soul Weekender. Would Recommend it to anyone into Soul Music.... home or abroad! Sean
  13. Or next March at "Soul Essence" would be better still! https://www.soul-essence.co.uk/ Real Deal. Sean
  14. Looks like Essence will be next chance. Unless you make it to Spondon? Think me and Kev are supposed to be on in the New Year? Not heard the Tymes version. Stick it up here when you get a mo (save you doing me a CD ). Take care mate. Sean I'd say very rare. I dont have one... and if John Benson aint got one either I'd say they're almost extinct! Sean
  15. Must admit.. I prefer Cameo in this instance too! Sean
  16. Old Cleggy spin of mine. Great tune with an AWESOME flip! Thanks for the memories. Sean
  17. Hey John, I always believed it just said 'The Players' on the original 45 (no mention of New York). I seem to recall some grief from Ohio Players management, hence the quick press name change. My copy, though, does say "Cameo" as does yours. I also have a 12" somewhere (which I think came out some time later). Hope you're well mate. Must catch up soon. Sean
  18. The 3 Degrees version was actually out several years before the Players version on Chocolate City. I
  19. Oh dear.... Cheer up. It's MONDAY!
  20. That's confirmed it then. I'm a Proper Soulie!
  21. Ahem! To be fair... it was me that first brought up 'bags' and referred to both the trouser type and the 'allnighter' type in my post! Let's not have anyone else taking the credit for my insults. Sean
  22. That's me through the door AOK then!
  23. Me neither. Awful description. Turns my stomach. Can't we just be people who are into Soul music? As for the original posters 'Flyer' question. More fool the promoter who alienates his/her audience. That type of elitist fascism can only do more harm than good, decrease (not increase) numbers through the door... and deservedly so. Sean
  24. Don't let anyone in unless they're wearing a Black Glove, sporting a well placed Beer Towel (hanging from the waistband of Baggy Trousers) and carrying a Fully Badged Up 'Allnighter Bag'. That's how you can tell who the proper Soulies are. Sean
  25. Agree entirely. I bought and played all of the above as new releases. They were just good Soulful Dance records to me... at the time of release, but felt they needed more of an airing at the 'Big Nighters' of the day (Clifton Hall - Cleethorpes - Bradford etc.) some 6-8 years after release. Thankfully they went on to be as big (or bigger) than many of the 'new' discoveries which were played alongside them. Fact is, none of the above were well known in the mainstream until that time. And you're so right that certain records played on the Modern / Tent (type) scene will eventually find acceptance in the Northern 'Main Hall'. It's always perturbed me though that so many just don't get it (or don't want to get it) until years later. Just part of the mindset, I guess, but, thankfully, you can't stop the evolution of the masses. Sean
