  1. Have had this 45 for years (bought it back in 73) and always thought it a strange tempo for a dance record. It got reactivated in the late 80's and I still thought it wierd... although Lindas vocals are amazing (as ever), "Fugitive From Love" is by far the better and most 'listenable' Soul record of the two and a different recording of the same song on Turbo. Sean
  2. Sorry Drew... Yes it is! Love, the GB "I'm Me, Just Me". Sean
  3. Certainly agree with ALL of the above. Top Bloke, Steve. Sean
  4. Flipside "That's All She Wrote" is an old PITCHES fave. Tis a great double sider IMO. I've also seen this on a Green label... if my memory serves me right? My copy, though, is as the scan. Sean
  5. Have you got a CD with the tinkly piano intro version on John? If not I'll do one for you. Sean
  6. Was that a Faux Pas Steve or did you mean to make a funny? Made me laugh anyway! Sean
  7. Errrrr... a fair question. I happen to think there are more than '2 types' of 'Soulie'. Also, congratulations on creating the worlds longest sentence.
  8. Yes Drew, Up The Gary Glitter! Sean
  9. Oh really.........Can you afford a 'proper DJ' Mart? You know I always feel charitable around Christmas... and that I'll throw in a few freebies just to get me warmed up for the year ahead! Sean See you in Dub then Blake! Sean
  10. No Blake, not a Legitimate one anyway! By Kev's standards even "Johnny Caswell" had a UK release! V. Happy Days Sean
  11. Not a legit one in my reckoning, if at all. US "IN" only I reckon. Would be very surprised if it ever saw the light of day over here on a proper issue. But if it did, I want one. Sean
  12. Hi Rob & Karen My 50th is in January... but I'm buggered if I know what I'm doing for it. Thoughts of a PITCHES stylee session somewhere? My Gal want's to take me to Dublin... but I fear she just might leave me there BTW Had a nice pm from Dave following his post. He knows I wasn't knocking Prestatyn.... Just enthused over Essence! Might even pay you a visit next time.... providing she lets me off the leash Sean
  13. And, somewhere in a parallel universe.... https://www.djhistory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7215 A brief explanation, though not conclusive. Sean
  14. Errrrrrrrr.... any day Chris..... any day! Got five done this afternoon. Balance tomorrow. Some cracking stuff on the ones received thus far. Sean
  15. I'm sure I've read stuff about this guy before now. Well dodgy. Buyer Beware. (allegedly). Lo & Behold. He is now deregistered! Sean
  16. Interesting publishing company! Sean
  17. Sorry Roger, And apologies for lowering the tone. I don't know what got into me! Sean
  18. A bit too thick and fast for my liking!!! Four arrived this morning... but I only opened one to play on the way to the office (the great compilation from Alan Darker). I prefer time to absorb the music and feel playing one after t'other won't do 'em justice... in which case I'm asking for special dispensation to copy and send mine out in 2-3 months time Seriously though, my IT guy has just told me that they wont all fit onto one CD so I'm going to have to knock one of the tracks off the list (probably RJ's Latest Arrival - since it's already on Chris's Comp). Once he's got it sorted we'll get them out, hopefully b4 the weekend. Tremendous standard so far guys. Just love hearing stuff (of this calibre) that I don't already know. Cheers Sean
  19. Sean whos the lady on the record cover? thats seems more interesting 2 me!!! For Bogue & Ezzie... and others who have been curious enough to ask, the Avatar is the Picture Cover to a Portuguese 45 of Sam Dees Chess recording "Love Starvation / Maryanna". Apart from being a great record and a real nice Sam Dees rarity... it also has a picture of the beautiful young Maryanna in White Fishnets, so, you could say that, in one foul swoop, I have my two great loves all wrapped up in one Avatar! Sean
  20. Just done that. Other than Chi-Lites stuff can only find "Chocolate Lover"? Good luck! Sean
  21. You're welcome. Hope someone comes up with the answer... cos i'm curious now! Cheers Sean
  22. I saw Marvin live. "What's Going On" "Let's Get It On" The whole nine yards. Had he the greatest ever Soul voice?... probably not. Was he a great performer?... My God Yes! Was he a genius?... Quite probably. Marvin was an enigmatic kinda fella (as our friend Dave used to say) and he was also a prophet forseeing his own declining mental state. If you listen to one of his last... and yet finest recordings, "It's Madness" you'll hear the sound of painful anguish in every lyric and beat as he struggled to maintain his own sanity. He knew what was coming, the pain, the suffering, the torment and the prophesy was in that song. One of the greatest recordings in Soul Music's long history from a true genius. Maybe we dont 'all' love the late Marvin Gaye. But I reckon most of us do. Sean
