  1. How about somewhere bizarre like Britain? Came out on the flip of "If You Got To Love Somebody" over here. Legit Release Grapevine G2K 45-137 Also, believed to have been the flip of "If You Got To Love Somebody" on US KoKo 726, however this is unconfirmed as only 2 Promo copies exist and none of us have seen the issue. Sean Hampsey
  2. Darrel Banks on UK London Demo @ £750 has got to be a contender! If you meant British label 45's that is. Sean
  3. Thanks for that Paul, I hope it's true. Had a couple of WD's but never had an issue. Alan(Darks) post above though implies that sound quality aint that great on the issue either. And he's also a very nice man! Alan.... if you're out there... please confirm! Thanks again Paul. Sean
  4. Yes Tony, It was Booted on Soul Sounds, but I seem to recall it was also done as a Selectadisc pressing on a Garrison Lookalike in 72/73. Sean
  5. Dead Right... again Tone! I was asking on here recently if the issue was mastered or pressed better than the WD's, but it seems not. Scorching tune though, just the 'muffling' always makes it a bit of a risk to play out. Shame. Great record. Sean
  6. Deads Right Tony, Loads. Going rate... Issue £15 Max. Demo £20 Max. Seem to recall it getting booted though, as an issue, 30+ odd years ago. Sean
  7. I've got this on issue too... but never seen a Demo Anyone ever seen a Garrison issue of Jimmy Raye "You Must Be Losing Your Mind"? Sean
  8. Darrell Banks "Open The Door To Your Heart" London HL10076 Sean
  9. Don't think so Darren. It most probably came from here:- https://www.televar.com/grshome/Audiolathe.htm Still cutting... so I would say this was a recent Acetate from this very source. Sean
  10. Please let me know when you want to go to a Village Fair again, wont you? You did real good! Sean
  11. And the same to you my long time hombre. When is next Spondon? Sean
  12. Makes complete sense to me Stevie. Nail Hit Head On! If it sounds right... it wouldn't be excluded... regardless of era.... but the general format would be 'Trad Modern' (see that folks... I just invented a new genre!).......... as opposed to 'Nu Modern' (woops, there's another one!). I can dig that! Cool Steve.... just cool. Sean - The Poser Man
  13. Wonderful Days indeed Fraser. We live in hope. I'll keep you posted! Sean
  14. Sounds like an Acetate rather than a Record. Is it? Audio Lathe are an Orgegon based Company still in existance, still cutting Acetates. Sean
  15. Thanks Steve, very much appreciated. And a quote from the beautiful Mr Mitchell to Boot! Sean
  16. Think I'm with you on this Steve, particularly as a lot of what's being touted as "Modern Soul" these days aint what I'd call any kind of Soul. Course, in the PITCHES days (started over 10 years ago, would you believe) even then we'd only play the SOULFUL Modern tunes (Mel Waiters, Otis Clay, Rawls & Luckett etc.) but these days the genuine 'Modern SOUL' productions seem to be few and far between. I guess its where you draw your standards from. If a shit hot Soul record (CD) was produced this year, that was just begging for dancefloor action and exposure to the scene, you and I both know that we should be plugging it. So in itself, that's what makes the 'by era' case difficult to comprehend, or fully sign up to, for a person who just wants to hear/play Soul Music. There's a very strong argument for a 'No Boundaries' event where quality is the only criteria (rather than era or rarity) and the reality would be that 95% of the material played would be 'older' (60's / 70's / 80's) by default, simply because the quality output is no longer there in volume or great quantity and hasn't been for a few years. Nevertheless, 'some' high quality stuff is still being produced (even in the 21st Century) and still being turned up from recent times and I wouldn't want to exclude those tracks from my playlist. Hope that makes sense! Sean
  17. Brilliantly put! I think we are on exactly the same page. Well done that man! Sean
  18. Aha! Was gonna mention "Modernism" Martin, but felt it wasn't quite what Steve was looking for. So, will the new place have more of an 'Orwellian' Policy? i.e. 'Crossover' & 70's? RSVP Sean
  19. First = Sam Cooke "Another Saturday Night" RCA Last = Charnessa & The Charmettes "Personal Woman" ATCO Sean Hampsey
  20. Sod it, no other takers... so I couldn't resist it! Best gig I've been to in a long while that fits into this category is the "Crown Inn" in Spondon, Nr Derby. Colin Brown, Brian Goucher and Fish are the regular DJ's with guests, recently including "Tats" Taylor, Mark Houghton and Steve Guanori amongst others. Music Policy is Top Drawer. Heard down there such soulful diversity (oooh! great name for a Soul Night - hands off...will contact my patent lawyer right away) "Satisfaction Unlimited" "Henry Jackson" "M J Wade" "William Bell - Relax" "O'Jays - Hold On" and various recent release SOUL records. I've waxed lyrical about this gig before on here. Tight Back Room, Proper Stage, Nice Dancefloor, Adequate seating... just not enough bodies in the place. You'd get the impression that the Soul Scene in the UK consists of no more than 50 people... yet this is a 'World Class' lineup playing the very best in recently discovered Rare Soul alongside unplayed, underplayed and forgotten oldies. The "Red Lion" in Todwick, Nr Sheffield is another worth a mention. Great location (adj Junc 31 M1) Superb quality venue, enthusiastic regular DJ's with Guests recently including Adam, Cliff Steele, Tats Taylor, John Benson, Kev Briscoe, Roger Williams, Fish, Dean, Mark Randle and Yours Truly twice this year! It's held on the second Friday every month and in truth it's more of a 'Modern' event but they mix it with an alternate 70's only night which also packs them in and keeps the crowd happy. The "Without Boundaries" event, Coors Museum, Burton on Trent, I guess fits into this category - depending on who's guesting. The next one has a mouthwatering lineup, as I'm sure you're aware, with Soul Sam, Colin Curtis, Arthur Fenn, Steve Guanori, Fish, Mark Randle, Paul Phillips, Adam, Colin Brown and Brian the Gouch! I DJ'd there a couple of months ago along with Bob Cosby and co and got away with a totally 'across the board - mixed bag' set whereas Bob played an exclusively Crossover set (as you might imagine) to critical acclaim. So the Midlands has it all going on Steve. Don't know about the rest of Blighty though. Oh, and apparently Soul has returned to Wigan in recent times, or so they tell me. Good old Russ! The Poser Man
  21. Don't get me going Steve. Where were you when I needed you on the "thirst for more" thread? "Connoisseurs Northern" indeed. The Poser Man
  22. Simon, you are a Gentleman. I'll even give you a lift down there if you're up for it. An absolute pleasure mate. Sean
  23. Best he tells you himself I think mate. He'll be along soon on this page, I'm sure! Cheers Sean
