  1. Just wondering what tunes you've got in your box that you'd like to recommend to other Soul Sourcers. You might be a DJ with that tasty unplayed, unknown, hardly played or semi-known stuck in the back of your box that you'd love to play... but haven't yet got around to it. You might be a collector, sitting on a tune that you know, if it got into the right hands, could become massive in the next 12 months. It could be an LP track that, for whatever reason, has never been given the recognition it deserves. It might be a tasty 'B' side that, given the right exposure, might just become a monster! No need to post sound clips. Just let us know what you've got that you think deserves a plug in the coming year! I'll suggest a couple of my own later (duty calls right now). So come on. Look at your box and let's have your top tip (or tips) for 2007. Oh... and a Happy (and Soulful) New Year to all! Sean Hampsey
  2. Not bad that Derek... but not the best tune to come out of PITCHES (or out of Gary's goody pile ). Haven't got a clue mate! Three questions:- 1. Who is it? 2. How much did you pay for it? 3. Did you have a nice Christmas? Sean
  3. A guy who interviewed the group. We exchanged a couple of emails. Can't remember his name, details, they must be on my PC at work. He's the one who turned up the 4 copies (that I mentioned earlier). (Bob ?). Nice record. Sean
  4. I've got both and I've never been aware of any difference in the two. Will have a closer listen. Sean
  5. Look forward to it John. Yes, difficult to believe that the mighty Ice Man, Jerry Butler & deep soul diva Lorraine Ellison could be bettered by a Bradford lass called Pauline! All the best Sean
  6. So sorry to have read this sad news, Blake. A major influence for decades. RIP Godfather. Sean
  7. "Magic Mirror" is not only a different Catalogue Number but its also a 5 min version of the original (Yellow label) "Mirror Mirror". it also features Walter Jones (ex Notations) on vocals, so they are different recordings (of the same tune!). Sean
  8. The track shown appeared on an LP only, and was actually a different recording to that shown in the clip, apparantly having been made into a more uptempo number on the actual album. So....... the Movie track (shown) never appeared on vinyl, but did come out (exactly as in the Video) on a Various Artists CD. Arranged by H B Barnum no less! Many thanks for the post. Nice Tune. Pretty lady! Sean
  9. Almost Certainly will be Gavin! (Unless I'm paid handsomely elsewhere) Can't wait mate. Sod this Christmas lark...................and Roll On Yarmouth! Sean
  10. Dead right Steve. Awesome logo.... always been one of my favourites... Well remember when I first played Na Allen "Thanks For Nothing" down at Thorne, early 90's. Had it in the playbox for over 10 years... just waiting for the right moment. At the time it was well ard... turned up since, obviously, but still holding its value well and still a top drawer double sider. Same for Al Hudson "I'm About Loving" ....still a fave... as is Vivian Reed..... Al Perkins atco take of "Yes My Goodness Yes" (and a few mindblowing deepies from Peggy Scott inc the Sam dees penned "I Can't say No") the Andy Champan's (T Tates) of this world... but if we're talking seriously hard records on this thread.. I reckon the Charnessa & Charmettes 45 is as rare as RSH, both sides penned by Sam Dees in the shape of "Personal Woman B/w I Can Feel My love Coming Down".... in the box now... maybe waiting for the right moment! Sean
  11. GREAT Flipside... "It's A Good Thing" worth the price for that side alone! Sean
  12. Thanks John, I didn't know it had ever had a 45 release... anywhere! Prefer it to all other versions. Will have to keep my eyes peeled for the World Pacific 45. Great record IMO. Sean
  13. Gary (Smelt) was a Sheffield / Rotherham lad. Knew him from the early 70's. Always had great taste. Got into the "Jazz Funk" scene mid / late 70's. Did a few bits with Steve Croft at that time, various gigs. Started working for Soul Bowl early 80's and turned up a lot of nice records. Had a great record list (Black Knight) in his day and had an awesome warehouse full of stock in Sheffield (90's) which I visited often. When he became ill, he sold up the lot to Tim Brown. Top, Top Lad. Sean
  14. Gary has not been well for a few years now. Sold up to Anglo American in '98. Sean
  15. Also features the wunnerful "Too Sweet To Lose" Top Tune! sean
  16. The Plain Yellow is a different Release / Catalogue Number. The Green / Yellow release with "Give Me One More Chance" on one side was cancelled and the Release number given to another artist / title. Sean
  17. Excellent point. Superbly put. Sean
  18. That's right Mike... but, curiously, the Aussie 45 is the same as the US 45 (Love Power B/w Talk To Me). Raised a few eyebrows when I've played it out cos it looks just like a UK TMG on the decks. Have a Good 'Un Mike! Sean
  19. I do 'vaguely' remember Eric behind the decks on one occasion. More a Dancefloor kinda guy though from my recollections of him. Really 'enthusiastic', so I could well imagine him going over the top! Yes, I hope he is well too! Have a good one Peter. Sean
  20. Agree Simon. I guess those Boys don't have the 35+ years of 'Baggage' that the Soul Music 'Scene' has to contend with in the UK. Sean
  21. Amen to that Dave. Always Believe That... The Best Is Yet To Come! Keeps yer young mate. Sean
  22. Also contains a wicked version of his original ZZ & CO "Gettin' Ready For The Get Down". Superb album Stevie Baby. The Poser Man
