  1. Seen a lot of my heroes and heroines over the years.. Marvin Gaye, Bobby Womack, Sam Dees, Otis Clay, Bobby Bland, Johnnie Taylor, Arthur Conley, Candi Staton, Ann Peebles, Irma Thomas, Denise Lasalle etc. But would dearly love to see:- Joey Gilmore Awesome repertoire! Gigs in Florida every other night... but love to see him in the UK. Neville Brothers Aaron Neville, voice of an angel! Never seen 'em live. Eddie Billups Have contemplated kidnapping him! Live... at your next weekender... EDDIE BILLUPS. Imagine that! Sean
  2. Sounds like an exceptional find to me. The Gregg Jackson LP has been acknowledged in the UK as a serious rarity since the late 80's. Looks like Ted has been looking for it for quite a while, I was chasing it for over 10 years and I'm sure that those 'very few' who own it over here paid a pretty penny.... and wouldn't sell for less than a few hundred squid. Pity you didn't know what you'd got at the time. You'd have cleaned up with them over here, especially given the quality of the tune, it's 'Private Press' status and that it's long been a recognised 'Modern' monster. Do you still have one? Did the copies go to Soul collectors... or just sold randomly at the fairs? Certainly seems to me that there are fewer copies in the UK than what you found in one day, down under. Sean
  3. Mmmmmmmmmmmm as a bargain, Steve, I think so. But would be interested to know if anyone else ever got anywhere near it! Robby Lawson "I Have Searched" Kyser MINT CONDITION $10 Buy It Now! Not the best record ever (although some might say so) but a pretty good price nontheless. Not complaining Sean
  4. Andy Whitmore just pm'd me and he has one! So that's, in summary (so far)... Definately have a copy Sean Hampsey Steve Plumb Mark Houghton Gareth Donovon Andy Whitmore May have a copy Richard Searling ? Simon M ? Graeme Ellis ? Tom Jackson ? Rod Dearlove ? (I reckon that if Steve played this on the radio (I don't think he did - I've got all of his shows on tape) it would have been Rods copy.... which I reckon came from Graeme Ellis So, 7-8 copies out there, so far... Anyone got a copy for Ted? Sean
  5. You hero Mr Plumb! What you didn't say was that it was ME that you beat in the bidding war on Evil Bay (back in the day) and in response I sent you a very unpleasant email questioning your parentage! I can hardly believe that you forgave me for the torent of abuse.... but, because you are a truly beautiful person, not only did you not send the boys round... but you also got a copy for me too! You're right, I will be forever in your debt. But after all these years, don't you think its time I stopped having to wear the boy scout uniform... when I visit you in your room at Yarmouth? Yes, it was always a Rod Dearlove tune to me... Late 80's, thorne. Magic! Very few copies around that I'm aware of...... only 4 or 5 known? My copy Steve Plumb Mark Houghton Gareth Donovon Rod (does he still have it?) Anymore out there? Not only very expensive. I'd have said unobtainable. Sean
  6. Will do Steve... so long as the suggestions keep coming in.... I'll keep it going! Makes for a Mouth Watering Wants list! And... if I might say... some tasty items from Mr Plumb there, as we've come to expect!! Sean
  7. Thanks Joan. I should have known. Will update on the next cut! Sean

  9. Just had a listen at the clip Mart, flippin eck.... sounds amazing! As you say, I played it 2 or 3 times at Clifton Hall and Cleethorpes early 80's but it just didn't catch fire at the time... but as they say "so right for now"! Would be good to see it getting plays in 2007 for sure.... and do you know what... I don't think this was ever actually issued in the UK. The one I've got and one other I've seen are DEMO's. What's yours? Sean
  10. Had this one for a while, for the awesome deep flip "I Just Can't say No". Must go check that it's not a Double sided promo, cause I really like this side! Thanks again!
  11. You are an absolute star! Thanks for that. Just secured a copy and it's on its way across the Atlantic right now, but that will keep me going until it arrives! Cheers Sean
  12. You're Right Blake. The name "Fishback" came into my mind as I was typing, that's when I realised I was confused. Too many late nights and Pop mate! Back to work tomorrow though... thank God! Sean
  13. Didn't think it was your cuppa rosy mate! Looking forward to seeing this Pied piper article you're doing though. You've certainly been putting some work into it. Hope someone can confirm the Sandpipers question for you. Cheers for now. Sean
  14. What is it with you and Sonny Munroe, Blake? You must be his biggest fan! Is he the Sonny of "Love Trap" fame? If so... who was Dianne, by the way? Or am I just confused? Sean
  15. So where is that from Baz? Label etc? There were at least 3 groups named the Sandpipers, recording in the 60's. 1 The LA Male Trio (3 x M) plus later (3 x M 1 x F) 2 The S. African group (2 x M, 2 X F) 3 The Florida Trio (3 x F) 4. The 'Giant' artists? Sorry Eddie, I guess you already know the above, which is why you asked for confirmation, but I'm now not sure. Just always thought it was the same crowd as the "Guantanamera" bunch! Sean
  16. I always thought this record sounded like The Bachelors, Eddie. Nice Mike Terry backing track, but shocking vocally. I just accepted that they were the White 'easy listening' trio (Jim Brady, Mike Piano, and Richard Shoff) from LA. If not... it sure sounds like 'em! Sean
  17. Agree Roger. The lyrics "What Should I Do... Should I Speak to Him" would also confirm that Frankie is female. Love the intro version. "There he is, My old love... He's with his new Girlfriend Isn't She pretty? Oh! He's looking my way He's walking straight at me What Should I Do?" I also find it interesting (stops to stroke chin here) that at no point throughout the song does Frankie sing "What SHALL I do"... so perhaps the original title was "What SHOULD I Do". Just a thought! Sean
  18. Mornin' Malc and Happy New Year! Just a thought..........If Frankie is the Lead singer, 'She's' certainly a Lady. No guarantee though that Frankie is the one on lead... but I think it's most likely. Great record. Still shends shivers down my spine.... after all these years. Sean
  19. So that's half a dozen! Must be loads more. Doesn't need to be rare. Just something that you'd like to share with us... The recent LP/CD swap brought a stack of great tunes to the surface. What else lies beneath? All suggestions gratefully received (need to top up my wants list).
  20. Happy New Year!
  21. Just played the kids Ray Charles sound file... to show 'em how it should be done!
  22. Yes... along with that weller bloke... murderin' Ray Charles!
  23. Happy New Year, Mike and all! May your glass be ever full. May the roof over your head be always strong. And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead. Sl¡inte Sean
  24. A nice, mellow, track. Been available on his CD for quite a while now, along with 9 others. Good to see it's coming out over here now, if only on a 45. Sean
  25. On my UK Philips copy "I Only Have Eyes For You" is the A side. BF1586. No spoken intro on the "What Shall I Do" side... just 4 beats and into the vocals! Nice! Sean
