  1. Hi Alan Good thinking mate... Al Johnson "It's not too late"....................... Definitely played by Me! (I don't recall Poke playing it, but he may have done). Patches "I'm gonna make this world a better place"............... Bought from Sam. Played by Me "Am I grooving you" .........................Chuck Simmons. Played by Poke and then Me (and prob Steve M). "A little extra stroke" George Jackson................. Bought from sam. Played by Me... and I think Richard? Also... just remembered Donny Gerard "He's Always Somewhere Around" my old Milt Matthews C/Up that I used to always play right after Al Johnson. Tasty! Keep 'em coming Alan Sean BTW You coming to Rotherham tomorrow night?
  2. Hi Pete, I must admit... it was me . Poke never had it. It was a Steve Croft reccomendation and I played it at Clifton Hall. Later, at Cleethorpes, both Steve and I played it along with some of the other lads. Not my fave record, but it seemed so right at the time. It was always quite rare, even then, 25 years ago, so gawd knows how difficult it would be to pick one up nowadays. Am more attached to (and content with) more of the other tracks I played... much than Annis, to be honest. But it was fun, nontheless! Tickhill Chips and a cake. Charter Arms. Followed by Clifton Hall. Sounds like heaven! Sean
  3. Good Call Martin. Keep 'em coming! Sean
  4. There's not just 'one' though Steve is there? The sheer volume of class records broken and played at Clifton Hall was Breathtaking... and the playlist pretty much fed the rest of the Northern 'AND' modern scenes for the entire decade. Sean

  6. Yeh, so do I, Steve. About six months after I did! Will we be seeing you back on the Holy Ground tomorrow then mate? Sean
  7. For Me... it would have to be Norman Connors "Take It To The Limit"... but there were many! Sean
  8. Mart, If I knew how to post clips I'd post up a stack of Clifton Hall tunes. Sorry. I'm Just Crap with Technology Can you find the thread anywhere from when we did the reunion night? The one that had the playlists on? Can they be copied and pasted onto here... so that others who missed it 'might know what all the fuss was about' Seems to me there's very few people on SS that actually went to Clifton Hall. It's like it never really happened. At the time... the biggest nighter on the planet. Then. A Car Park. Sad. Sean
  9. I'll play anything for you Malc. ....But only if you ask me nicely! Sean Hampsey
  10. The wierdest one I have is an Otis Redding misprint on Atlantic... "That's How Strange My Love Is" How strange is that? Sean
  11. Joe Lakin.... now there is a name from the past (Think you're an old mucker of Snowy's, Joe, and our paths crossed many moons ago). Excellent Tip Joe. Always rated this particular track by Mr Bell. Sean
  12. Hey Steve, More of a Hull boy 'paying tribute' to a Rotherham Boy's playlist, I reckon! Make sure you're at Rotherham (Soul Spectrum - Manor Barn) this Saturday Night... and I'll play a good few of 'em for ya! Would be good to see you there mate. Sean
  13. He's obviously never heard John on the Mic, Gareth!
  14. Hi Alan, Only just read this mate, sorry. Great little track the Creative Source. Little known fact, I originally played it covered as "Bobby Miller" way back in '79. 27+ years later.... its still a virtual unknown! If I knew how to post a clip I'd be putting it on here. Long overdue some recognition I reckon. Also.... Didn't realise that you had your first date with Clare (now Mrs Darker) at PITCHES. And that love blossomed from that day on! Just Lovely! Made it all worthwhile. Sean

  16. Nope. Not got it by Johnnie Taylor, Stevie. Can't help thinking I've got another version though (Barbara Carr?........... maybe not!) Poser Man
  17. Got 3 versions of this super duper little number Mark, Ollie Nightingale (I'll Drink Your Bathwater CD) Bill Coday (Put Me In The Mood CD) Denise Lasalle (Still The Queen CD) All on Ecko! Sean
  18. Top Tips those Dave, Ollie is an Out and Out classic IMO and the Wendell Brown (which I also hammered when new) is Soooooooo Right! Don't know if you (or anyone else) ever listened to the track "Losing Game" off the Wendell CD. If not, you should. It's totally sublime! Sean
  19. Are you really having a laugh Roger... or are you serious? ELB is a Classic Modern Dancer with BALLS mate! Knocks spots off many 'big' modern records for its sheer POWER! Will definately be played (by me at least) as an antidote to some of the wimpier 'Modern' tunes that get spun... and when I dropped it at 'Soul Intent' a few months ago it was easily the top tune of the night, for dance floor reaction and applause. Literally had some of the 'Modern - Newbie' crowd rushing to the decks. A good time Soul Dancer, I reckon! Sean
  20. Excellent stuff John. David Sea - Night After Night - Never been out of my playbox since I bought it when new. J J Johnson - Don't Go Away - As above. Also Love the flipside "Money Without Love" Jeb Stuart - Long Time Coming Down - Crikey, Loved this forever. Never seen anyone else tipping it. Great 'deepie. Not really for the dancefloor though? David Hudson - Just A Feeling - Spot on. Always felt this had HUGE potential. Saw him sing it live. A great double side 45. Charles Wilson - Trying to Make A Wrong Thing Right - Another superb double sider. Bobby Jonz - Win Your Love - Massive! Crosswinds - Fire - Another that's ripe and ready! StanleyWilliams - Count The Days - Just perfection! Never did pick up a 12" of this (the Long version). Kicked off a spot a couple of months ago with Ernie Lee Banks. Certainly got the crowds attention!! Great taste mate! Sean
  21. Double Amen. Wise words from Gavin. Also, Great Avatar, mate. Getting me in the mood for Yarmuff! Won't be long now!!!!!!!! Sean
  22. Nowhere near as much Roger. The Northern 'Oldies' DJ is still part of a very large club. The point Peter was making (and I agree with) is that the 'Modern' DJ rarely dips into the 'forgotten' pile.. probably because he's always attempting to be.... errr.... 'Modern'.
