  1. Hi Russ, MUST check out Music Man Oldies. Massive stock but well hit over the years. Then again, there's a George Blackwell for sale on here that came out of there, along with a Curtis Anderson and my Robby Lawson. Sean
  2. Big Dee Irwin "You Satisfy My Needs" on US Rotate (UK Stateside). A Seriously Slow Burner! Sean
  3. Never been reissued Paul. Tis proper! Sean
  4. Hi Peter, If you mean the 'Sep' "Thank You" track, I mentioned this on one of the Modern threads a week or two ago. I've had it a few years from the owner and been playing it out ever since. The demo I have is slightly different to the finished mix, which came out 'uncredited' on the end of a Chris Hill CD "Get This Party Started" (or similar). It's still officialy 'unreleased' as the owner has struggled to get clearance on the "I'll Be Around" Riff. Sean
  5. Slippers & Cardigan not required (I have underfloor heating)... but you can't beat a pipe full o' Bacca and a nice mug o' Cocoa while you're listening to a Spencer Wiggins or a Gwen McCrae (in your Rockin Chair). Sean
  6. Oooh Steve..... I just looked at the picture close up... and am actually bleary eyed... (no, teary eyed). Was the building ever actually offered up for sale btw? Sean
  7. Dead easy one for me Russ. Records gets it! Always loved the music a helluva lot more than I loved the 'scene'. Sean
  8. There's a big, big world of great Soul Music out there, isn't there! Check out "Each Day Get's Better" from the same Legend CD (sampling Four Tops "In These Changing Times" Beautifully). As for the Sep "Thank You"... been a play of mine for a few years. Nice! So refreshing to read your post..... "But I'm probably missing out" "Anything else out there isn't Northern or Rare Soul BUT close enough to appeal to old soulies?" Superb attitude and approach. Oops! I can feel a 'Soul Essence' plug coming on! Sean
  9. Looking forward to it, Steve. On the strength and popularity of this thread, looks like we'll be required to work a bit of Philly Magic into the repertoire! See you then mate. Sean
  10. Agree Steve... how could we have overlooked such an awesome tune. But is it as good as the Pickett version? Never been able to decide on that one. On further reflection, maybe Pickett just edges it. But BB is great Philly 45! Sean
  11. I seem to recall this was a later re-issue (probably late 70's - early 80's from memory) where EMI wanted to keep the 'hit' title on catalogue but had dispensed with the Mowest logo. Hence, similar matrix (same masters - re-used). Sean
  12. I always thought it was first played at the Mecca (early days). Cute Pop.. worth about £10.00. Sean
  13. GiGi & The Charmaines on Kent "I Dont Wanna Lose Him" Previously unreleased... until quite recently. Sean
  14. We hear you Bulmeister. O'Jays Everytime! Sean PS: Bull... did you mean Painted on?
  15. Thanks Bob, that's a good start. Agreed the Topside (You Know I Love You) is the best track, but regarding the flip it's a wierd one. I've got both copies (Barbara Stant & Jean Battle). Both have the exact same matrix and both play Barbara Stant's version of "Unsatisfied Woman" ... so why the name change on the flip? Sean
  16. Hot Dog for tea then!
  17. Also on 45 - US SOUL 35093. One of the best, for sure! Sean
  18. Nicely designed website, Sean. Sean Hampsey
  19. Below is a pic of Jean Battle "Unsatisfied Woman" on Shiptown. I've had this 45 for years and asked quite a few people about it... but so far drawn a blank. It's on the flipside of Barbara Stant's "You Know I Love You". On all other copies of this record (that I've seen) the "Unsatisfied Woman" track is credited to Barbara Stant. I need your help. If you've got the Barbara Stant "You Know I Love You" record, please let me know what's on the flip of your copy. Being an 'all things Sam Dees' collector, I've just been very curious for a long time about this one and almost offered it to the recent 'Misprint Label' thread... but I think it deserves a thread on its own... cos' its not, from what I can see, a simple misprint. The Jean Battle side even credits 'arranged by Dale Warren' as does the Clintone copy, whereas the Barba Stant "Unsatisfied Woman" credits Norah Biggs. It may well be as common as doggy doo... but I'd be interested to know if that is the case or not. Any thoughts? Help? Much appreciated. Sean Hampsey
  20. Agree with most of the above. Here's a few UK TMG's from my box, where the Flipsides are, at very least, as good as the Topsides! 21. Sean Is it like that copy of New York City (Im doing fine now) you played at Pitches all those years ago ? Best Blake ................................................................................ ................................................................... Bloody good memory you've got Blake. No, its nowhere near as bad as my well worn NYC... which in itself was only half as bad as Tats' "Love I Lost". You'll see (hear) for yourself down at Yarmuff. Had it for well over 10 years and never thought it was even remotely playable (DJ wise) until earlier tonight. Came out of Baltimore, as I guess they all did. A good dollar's worth I reckon... crackles an' all! Cheers Sean
  22. Been a rare one for years. Very indemand. Just pulled my old copy out. Has a few crackles at the intro and here and there elsewhere, otherwise I think I'd get away with playing it out. If you're at Soul Essence and happen to here what sounds like a pan of Bacon & Egg frying over Clifton Dyson's vocals... it'll be me behind the decks! Sean
  23. T'was def a Hampsey tune at Cleggy... early 80's. Acquired from Mick Godfrey... for a quid! Sean
  24. Definately her hardest Arctic 45... and one of her best. Was a PITCHES fave 10-12 years ago after picking it up Blind in Baltimore... still got loads of mileage in it as its never been widely exposed. Top Choon! Good luck! Sean
