  1. Hi Peter, Al Perkins 'Yes My Goodness Yes' actually came out twice by Al Perkins, originally on ATCO then later with strings overlayed on BUDDAH. Has an amazing pedigree with Womack, Butler and Hughes at the helm! Sean
  2. Nice one Dave. Same track as the Invitations. Used to play 'Please Stay Home' off this LP. Sean
  3. Have had this on W/D CRS for over 30 years Marc. Would be nice to hear that played out! BTW, How about that other thing we have in common? Are you tipping that one? Cheers, Sean
  4. That's a 'proper' Soul record in my book. You may like this spin of mine from a few years back. Only vinyl format is Japanese. The master, Otis Clay. Sean
  5. Would love to see these getting more action on our various 'scenes' in 2014! Not unknown, but certainly not overplayed! Sean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3s576_uol0
  6. A couple of nice and soulful midtempo things that could certainly use a little more action! First up, Inell Young's 'Ive Never Considered' a lovely slice of New Orleans followed by a gorgeous Impressions sounding Chicago group sound from the Dontells! Sean
  7. A couple of 'crossover' tracks I've played lots in recent years, that I hope can gain wider acceptance. And a track I featured and played from LP for a good while, only to find it snook out on this 'misprint' 45 promo... now safely in the box! Sean
  8. Here's something you might want to look out for, a great 'released on 45' verson of the Tammi Terrell, Vandellas, Barbara McNair unreleased Jobete track 'Lonely Town'. Sean
  9. A couple of Soulful yet Funky tips! Sean
  10. OK, as it's Sunday and if we're going back to church, here's a couple I've played that may not be widely known and as they are both pretty uptempo, I reckon could still gain wider acceptance. Play loud! Sean
  11. Nice one Swifty. Lovely track from a very hard LP. Sean
  12. Spot on Nev. And definitely in the spirit of the thread. As we state at the outset 'It could be an LP track that, for whatever reason, has never been given the recognition it deserves. It might be a tasty 'B' side that, given the right exposure, might just have what it takes to become a monster! And more in recent times, I think we could add 'it could be a recent release that's been laying dormant for decades or something recently recorded that simply has the right 'sound'. Excellent stuff. Cheers. Sean
  13. Well, after a bumpy start, I think we're getting somewhere! Some really great contributions from all around, with a few half decent newer cuts and a couple of surprise 'revivals' have made this all really interesting. And, from many of the comments I've read and received, there appears to be quite a few folk genuinely interested and grateful for the music that's been suggested, so please keep 'em coming and don't be bashful! Have just spent an hour or so tidying this lot into something resembling a list and here's how its looking: Sonny Holly - Cheating Ain't No Good- Cash Money Leon Peterson don't squeeze the sherm fire mountain Soul Rockers - "If the shoe fits ya." 14. Excellent Tip Nev. 'A great 45 for peanuts' Nice one matey. Sean
  15. Some lovely stuff there. Great contribution Dave, in the true spirit of the thread. Someone with his ear to the ground and more than willing to share. Cheers, Sean
  16. Tried with this a few times over the years, mid 90's, Pitches, Phoenix years. Must have been fairly unknown back then, good to see some interest in it again. Sean
  17. That 'Get Up On Living' is a really good tip Chalky. The sort of thing that'll come back and bite in 2-3 years! Nice one. Sean
  18. Nice one Len. Had this long time, good to see it getting spins! Sean
  19. Cheers Peter, yes that's right. Have played it on the Radio and various gigs over the past 18 months. A few others are picking up on it and I feel it could well go on, at least in crossover circles, to be a classic. Hope you're well too buddy! All the best for 2014. Sean
  20. Did you see the Bobby Moore Nev? Post 22? I reckon one each is enough mate, but let me have a scratch around. Sean
  21. Hi Steve, Agree, that's a pretty good record matey. But if you think I'm buying all this lot you've another thing coming ....And if I was interested for my own benefit I'd have asked for people to pm me their suggestions. As a matter of fact (for a number of reasons) I've pretty much given up both DeeJaying and collecting. Got a couple of dates to fulfill in the diary and then I'm offski! This is just a bit of fun I started 7 years ago which has became a bit of an annual tradition. We'll see if the thread can keep running with a few more suggestions (without anyone trying to pull the wheels off it) and then (if I get a mo) I'll put em all in a list and see how many it amounts to. Cheers, Sean
  22. Agree Chalks. Its always surprised me what people put forward as tips for the future, when clearly they've been and gone in other parts of the country, or on other parts of the 'scene'. I guess that's down to both the diversity in music and the various strands in the UK and beyond. We don't all know it all these days... at least not at the same time :0) Picking up on Steve G's point again, is it felt that the Modern & Crossover scenes can often be a breaking ground for the wider 'Northern' scene? Tell you what though, a bit quiet in here tonight. SS Members normally have no problem making recommendations. Here's my recent tip anyhow. Soulful midtempo I've played for a while now that deserves broader acceptance. A previously unreleased Chess / Muscle Shoals track (only Vinyl imprint is Japanese). Bobby Moore 'Can't Get Away'. Sean
