  1. Pete made the point earlier that at one time a 'Big' record was played by every decent DJ in the country that could get hold of it. That's how a lot of latter day 'classics' got to become Massive! What's the score nowadays? DJ's that are somehow bigger than the records themselves? Nobody else can play 'MY' tunes. It's Ballocks. Total and utter Ballocks. If you've got records as good as those, or the same as those, in my box then good luck to you. You're a tasty guy. Get em played. Part of a DJ's job is promotion isn't it? Carvers / Boots / CD's ... different question... but for pity's sake it's only an 'exclusive' if you've got the only copy. If another turns up... cest la vie! Two copies = twice the promotion = Bigger records... and so on and so forth. Football! Sean
  2. I'm In Chris! How about a Gloves Off / No Holds Barred.......... '20 Incredible Soul Records That You've All Just Got To Hear' CD. Or '20 Deep Soul Killers'................? But I'd go for any of the above! Sean
  3. Crikey... are we talking about "The Chase Is On"? How is this a trendy new spin? Was hammered and booted nearly 30 years ago. Sean
  4. Aha... don't have a Bileo any more... and miss it too! I remember getting a pile of them from MTU Watts City, back in the early 80's, but when I was sorting out some stuff in my basement a few weeks ago I couldn't find one of 'em. They also sent me their new release by Bill Williams (Bileo) called "Things Will Be Better Tomorrow" which I used to play at Cleethorpes. Anyone remember that? Sean
  5. Yeh that's right Simon... A Unique Slab of Uptempo Soulful Disco Soul..... that's what it is! Sean
  6. Still love mine. Played it at the weekend and it sounded as immense as it did all those years ago. A unique slab of uptempo soul! Sean
  7. The Chestnut Brothers also recorded the Modern Soul Monster from 15+ years ago "Whole Lotta You In Me" as Brotherly Love and the follow up " Hey Sweet Lady" which did big things at the time. Sean
  8. That was it Darren. I almost suggested The Appreciations. Will always be The Determinations, Thurcroft Classic, to me! Sean
  9. Well, I beat him to it. Massive at Thurcroft Youth Club Who / what was it covered as. Anyone remember? Sean
  10. I've had the Morris Vaughn on Fontana for decades... on a UK Fontana Demo. Both sides "My Love Keeps Growing" and "Make It look Good" are, as you say, top notch. I played both sides to Tats Taylor two weeks ago. Having never heard them before he was most impressed! As for plays 'out' I once played "My Love Keeps Growing" at Clifton Hall (went down like a lead balloon) and seem to recall Rod Dearlove giving "Make it look Good" an early hour spin at Thorne. Certainly a sleeping giant double sider and quite hard on US but seriously rare on UK for sure! Sean
  11. A luvverly old tune I used to play extensively around Rotherham, down at my local Youth Club back in '72. Got the shock of my life when I heard it played out 'covered up' at Lincoln 'Drill Hall' Allnighter some 8 years later... but not as shocked as the DJ was (think it was Dave Raistrick) when I told him what it was and that I'd had it in my playbox for years. Got to be a steady 80 quider these days. Sean
  12. Interesting that Derek. MY RECORDS (of Frank Lynch - 'Young Girl' fame) did a similar thing with a personalised space for your own name on the label. Clever really, cos we all used to write on our record labels and personalise them way back then didn't we... not realising how much we were deavaluing them in the process. Sean
  13. Already! Will give it a spin at Mexborough tonight for sure! Sean
  14. HUGE Early 80's Cleethorpes Tune! Sean
  15. One of the most imaginative 'Crossover' CD compilations has to be the ACE / Kent DO THE CROSSOVER BABY Track listing and clips to be found here: https://www.amazon.ca/Do-Crossover-Baby-Var...s/dp/B0000013B7 The follow up CD DO THE CROSSOVER AGAIN is equally superb. Both are from the Vaults of Stax / Volt Best regards Sean Hampsey
  16. Jimmy Ruffin - What Becomes of the Broken Hearted Cadged it from my mates big sister. It cost me a kiss. But it was well worth it... ...especially when I flipped it over and heard 'Baby I've Got It' for the first time! Still sounds great today! Sean Hampsey
  17. Deepest sympathy. Our thoughts are with You and Yours Ady. Sean Hampsey
  18. T'was my 'Daybreak' cover up at Cleethorpes circa 1982. Sounded great on Friday night at Yarmouth. Still a floor packer... after all these years. Sean
  19. Yes Tony. But I don't know if it's true... or not. Sean
  20. Time you were in bed John. Pick you up "around" noon. Sean
  21. Awesome flipside too on the Margo Thunder, Bri. A must. Sean
  22. Aha! Wondered if anyone else noticed this! It was a Femme Vocal cut of Syl Johnson's Masterful "We Did It"... and I think it was Lynn White's version if I'm not mistaken.... memory loss caused by overwork. Now going home to sort me box out for Yarmuff! Sean
  23. Raved over this since it was released, Richard. Triffic Record! Sean
  24. Sorry Russ, I don't have his life story... but it was definately a Clifton Hall spin for POKE way back when. A great choon mate! Just a thought, if you collect/ed OVIDE... you ever seen a copy of "The Skipper Lee Story" on Ovide? Probably the rarest Ovide 45... and I'd be interested to know if anyone else has got one. Sean
