  1. The Don Gardner & Baby Washington LP on People & Master 5. "We're Gonna Make It Big" Superbly Soulful Dancer... cheap as chips on an album but very scarce on a 45! (always raises eyebrows when I play it out) No idea on price though. Excellent thread
  2. Sure is THE Donny Gerard Sebastian. He work with lots of artists as Backing singer including Elton John, Bob Seeger etc. Always loved "He's Always Somewhere Around" (My old Milt Matthews C/U from the early 80's) and the LP track "Words". He even had an album out in 1999. Would have loved to have seen Mavis. What about "It Makes You Wanna Cry"? Did she do that tonight? Sean
  3. It's been big for a while with College Kids... (my kids have 'em all - Face Book, MySpace, Blogspots the whole nine yards) but its now gaining favour amongst 'older' users (Alumni etc.). Whatever next? There'll be grown ups spending there days (and nights) chatting on Internet Soul Music forums before long?
  4. No doubt someone will confirm along the way Steve. It might also have been culled from the re-packaged Expansion CD of a few years ago, which I think was a different mix to the original Alston 45.
  5. My keyboard and my shovel are just fine thanks. Earlier in the thread, Pikeys Dog was seeking confirmation as to its legitimacy and I replied to his post, which is something that I am also 'allowed to do'. My comment about serious collectors was a general observation.
  6. Think you might be right on the instrumental B side Steve. I don't have the TK Disco 12" but think the longer intro on the PAD Boot may have been robbed from that. Anyone confirm?
  7. Well aware of that. Doesn't change the fact that it's a Boot and has been for sale on here in the past 18 months for £20. Can't believe any serious collector would rate it above that, but hey, some strange prices out there for mediocrity and oddballs.
  8. Yes it is Steve. It's a queer one that might have been done 'out of the back door' so to speak but the copies of this that are coming through are all from N Carolina Beach scene, no credits (no times, no writers, no publishing) on the label, Artist name spelt incorrectly (both Lew and Kurton... becoming Lou and Curtan)... and a pretty reliable contact over there assures me that these were booted in the droves and were knocked out at $5.00. Have even seen it for sale on Soul Source at £20. Still for collectors of oddball, mispelling curios I'm sure its a winner! Sean
  9. At that time Flo Ballard and Mary Wilson were on lead on most Supremes tracks, but this was Diana at least by 1964... from what I can see of this clip! Sounds more like Flo though on the 45. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jw-O-6T3To Let Me Go the Right Way made the Top 100, stateside, but is definately an early one (Nov 22 1962).
  10. The Music Industry lost a pioneer on July 4th, 2007. Bill Pinkney, the last standing member of the Original Drifters, was found dead in his hotel, The Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, in Florida. Mr. Pinkney was scheduled to perform later that night for U.S. Independence Day Festivities. His manager stated that he had been suffering from a heart condition but it was too early to say that he died of a heart attack. Police officials said there was no evidence of foul play. Mr. Pinkney was 81. Mr. Pinkney was a WWII veteran and a former pitcher for The New York Blue Sox of The Negro Baseball League. He was the only surviving member of the group that was formed in 1953. The Drifters, including Mr. Pinkney, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1988. I'm sure many of us on here were introduced to this incredible genre of music via the sounds of the Drifters. Rest In Peace Bill Pinkney!
  11. Not only did it come out in the UK, She actually sang it on prime time British TV, the Ready Steady Go Motown special, hosted by Dusty. A Beautiful song! Sean
  12. I rember the show very well and still have Tapes of it (if they've managed to survive the recent flood). Soul Shotgun was an extremely varied show, with lots of the better new releases of the time in amongst the 60's / Northern. Well remember such gems as Grover Mitchell "What Hurts" and Fantastic Puzzles "Come Back" being played as new British releases. Dave Godin often contributed, so the quality was consistently high. I have bumped into John on many occasion over the past 12 years or so. He's been quite heavily involved in Sports Promotion and as for quite a few years I was Marketing Director of Sanderson, the then sponsor of Sheffield Wednesday, he'd often tap me up for a table or two at some of his 'Gentleman's Evenings' and Sports Personality Dinners. I also had a Box for a half dozen seasons at Wednesday so I'd see him there quite frequently. A good, big hearted lad is John. I bought his record collection from him in the early 90's ( a couple of car loads) and it was good to find all the stuff he'd aired on Soul Shotgun in there. All very nice. Sean
  13. Couldn't agree more mate, which is why I gave it a subtle (or maybe not so subtle) bump! Both great 45's Steve. Can you please save me one of each? Sean
  14. It was an easy guess Steve. There's loads of great stuff for sale on www.soulmusic.co.uk
  15. Fascinating. Would be very interested to hear how it works out. Sean
  16. Yes. A very different guy to the HI / Fame / Verve etc. George Jackson. Sean
  17. https://www.popmusicinfo.com/show_record.ph...record_id=26696 Classed as Unreleased Stateside on Pop Music Info... But was released on Pye 7N 25223 This site is normally a pretty reliable source for UK releases. Scepter switched from Stateside to Pye, not t'other way round, but I'm sure that was merely a typo on Tony's part. His suggestion that the record got caught on the cusp sounds spot on. Sean
  18. Are the copies you have for sale, Steve, on www.soulmusic.co.uk Sean
  19. Two or 3 copies shown up on EMS in the last 24 hours, Russ. Don't know if you're a member but if you are, and you dont want to pay Martins asking price, you might want to make 'em an offer.
