  1. John... it all becomes a blur well before then mate. But I'm pretty sure you only saw them in your dreams. I know I have often enough! Seriously.... anyone else see record labels all night in their sleep? I've done it for years. Sometimes I don't want to wake up its so good! Think I'll get an early night!
  2. Not so much these days but used to love my british stuff in the early 70's and had most, if not all, of the big tunes of the time on UK labels. To be honest, my failing is that for the last 30 odd years I've collected almost anything these days - UK, US, Australian, Argentinian, Lebanese, European, Japanese, 45's, Acetates, Test Pressings, LP's, 12", CD's, 60's, 70's, 80's 90's, Y2K... every bloody thing. I get more turned on these days by things like this!
  3. Just checked. JELLYS is still there! https://yellowpages.aol.com/business/jellys...&_dirdma=69 Plus a whole bunch of 'em on here. https://yellowpages.aol.com/arts-and-entert...cord-stores/hi/ Sean
  4. If its still there you must try "JELLYS" in Honolulu on University Avenue + their other branch in Pearl Harbour. Had probably my biggest haul ever there in the late 80's! Everything... 10 for a dollar! Spent just over $25 and came out with a suitcase full of stuff. (Them were the days!) Happy hunting! Sean
  5. No mate... all three of us are that... I'll admit! Just that the "Sam Dees on Major Minor" is one of your favourite questions! I've looked for years for the Dees and I honestly don't think either exists on UK mate. A Little Jimmy Gandy on British would be a seriously prized item I reckon! Sean
  6. Ha Ha Blake... seems like you and nickinstoke have a lot in common! Fact is, neither record exists. If they did I would have 'em!
  7. Many thanks, Simon, Jo, Simon and Matt. All a lot clearer now. As for records I'm sick of hearing.... Sorry, I can't think of any. Been stuck indoors for quite a few weeks and would be glad of a Frank Wilson or two!
  8. Sorry if I'm slightly off thread. The Soul Police are getting a bit of a Hammering... but who are they? Are they individuals or is it a state of mind? Honest question. What exactly is meant by the term Soul Police? Sean
  9. Interesting that you mention "I'm Coming Home" Tony. Well recall Frank Elson plugging that particular 45 as a 'Future Northern Monster'. Maybe next year eh?
  10. Surely the rarest Spinners 45 is "That's What Girls Are Made For" on UK Columbia. A proper collectors item. Sean
  11. In my experience, the US ISSUE is by far the hardest format. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've championed this record since its inception (a Charade Rotherham in 75, Windmill Rotherham in 1980, Clifton Hall Rotherham in 1981, PITCHES Rotherham in 1995) spin for me. Just stuck with it for over 30 years... and having bought every reasonably priced copy I've ever seen in a sales box I've had at least a dozen UK copies and only 2 US copies in all that time. Remember discussing it with Gouch around 10 years ago. He thought it was "a bit twee". He might be right.... but you can't get away from the essence of the storyline, the notion that it's not whether or not you do wrong but that you 'want to' that really hurts. A killer plot, if ever there was one, to a slab of vinyl. And then the lyrical Genius and structure of the record... "The Toast Is Burned And My Eggs Aint Turned And My Coffee's Awfully Thin".... nowadays we call it "Passive Aggressive Behaviour" but Grover summed it up much better! I always used to play this alongside Fantastic Puzzles "Come Back" back in the 70's and early 80's... and look how that's taken off in the past year or two... been around for decades... but Sudddenly... the masses take notice! Could well happen with Grover Mitchell... and I'd be the happiest man on here if it did. 30 years late (for my liking) but much better late than never. Think I'll play it before I go to bed! 12. Hi Alan, Good to see you on SS mate. The legend lives on (for just a few of us) on here. Hope alls well with you and yours. Oh... and Dennis says... "Wot you kuckin on about... you Kuckin Kuckin Kucker!!!!!!!" Sean
  13. Ah, you've got the ST/Mono, Red one Side, White t'other side, copy John? The UK issue has a track called "Super Heroes" on the flip. A fairly nondescript tribute to Muhammed Ali etc. This same flip is used on the 'other' Grover Mitchell, Vanguard 45 release "Ah Feel She Really Doesn't want To Do It". An old spin of mine from the late 70's... a quite scarce and bloody good midtempo (but quite unusual) record Sean
  14. Out of the three... it's Linda Jones for me! But it's a close call between Maxine & Tammi. Maxine probably just shades it with "Seems You've Forsaken My Love"... one of the most painfully beautiful tunes ever to appear on wax! Sean
  15. Gotcha mate. I certainly see the similarity now you've pointed it out. Just never occurred to me before! Sean
  16. Always loved this choon! Bought it as a new release and in the mid 70's even had a T Shirt Printed with GROVER MITCHELL "WHAT HURTS" in Big Black Type on the front! Bit extreme, I know, but just thought it was a bit more original than Ric-Tic or frickin' Okeh! Been a regular on my decks ever since. Sean
  17. Underrated vocalist in the Jerry Butler mould. A Johhny Gilliam was leader of the Marvelettes Road Band in the 60's. I don't know if its the same artist. Did you know he also wrote the superb "How Can I Say I'm Sorry" (J. Ruffin). Apart from the obvious rarities, I've always rated his ICA sides "Thank You For Loving Me" and "Come Back Carol" circa '78. Pretty Positive that he never did an LP. Sean
  18. I've always believed that Robby Lawson was the first £1,000 record on the Norhern scene. Anyone confirm... and I'd be interested to know how much a Minter wuld be worth nowadays? Sean
  19. Written By Ron Tyson & Bunny Sigler. Fabulous Tune! Sean
  20. Hi Roger, That's really strange. I've never thought of "Get Out Of My Heart" as a vocal to "Soul Symphony" before. Ede Robin, certainly, but not Moses & Joshua. Must give 'em a listen again. Sean
  21. Pete's right. Booted on OOTP as a White label (still got my old copy). Never booted on Okeh to my knowledge.
