Another I picked up of Fish at the same time is The Dynamites feat Charles Walker (Little Charles). "Still Can't Get You Out Of My Heart" came out on the album "Love Is Only Everything. But the flip of the 45 I didn't know as it only came out on the US take of the album or so I believe. "Get Up On Living" is a great little number from the band.
I doubt either of the above will go big but I'm not sure many tips will get a spin on todays scene let alone go big.
That 'Get Up On Living' is a really good tip Chalky.
The sort of thing that'll come back and bite in 2-3 years!
Nice one.

Well said that man - If someone puts a record up they wanna hear 'out 'n' about' next year (They're tip), that some may have heard 20 odd years ago, I don't think it a hanging offence.....Yes, 'it's' been done - well let's do 'it' again shall we?!!!
I really do think I'll be off on my long awaited 'Northern Soul Gap Year' very soon - I hope to see some of you on my return (If I bother)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Len
Just randomly grabbed this off the shelf - What a f*ckin' record!
'Leon Haywood - You Don't Have To See Me Cry'
ENJOY!
Nice one Len. Had this long time, good to see it getting spins!

Hi Sean
Yep, this is a cracker. Heard you spin this on some show or another!
Hope yer well matey.
Peter
Cheers Peter, yes that's right. Have played it on the Radio and various gigs over the past 18 months.
A few others are picking up on it and I feel it could well go on, at least in crossover circles, to be a classic.
Hope you're well too buddy!
All the best for 2014.

At long last - a feckin good record that isn't played out much, or "known and not good enough"! And a great group that later went onto become Philadelphia Story.
There ya go Sean that's one for you to get......99 to go.
Steve
Hi Steve,
Agree, that's a pretty good record matey.
But if you think I'm buying all this lot you've another thing coming ....And if I was interested for my own benefit I'd have asked for people to pm me their suggestions.
As a matter of fact (for a number of reasons) I've pretty much given up both DeeJaying and collecting. Got a couple of dates to fulfill in the diary and then I'm offski!
This is just a bit of fun I started 7 years ago which has became a bit of an annual tradition. We'll see if the thread can keep running with a few more suggestions (without anyone trying to pull the wheels off it) and then (if I get a mo) I'll put em all in a list and see how many it amounts to.
Cheers,
Sean

Make it? Most had made it many years before. I can't believe most of the 2007 list was suggested, most were oldies and had been played for years. Unless you were new to the scene in 2007 you would have heard them. Those that weren't regular plays was probably because they weren't good enough.
Agree Chalks. Its always surprised me what people put forward as tips for the future, when clearly they've been and gone in other parts of the country, or on other parts of the 'scene'.
I guess that's down to both the diversity in music and the various strands in the UK and beyond.
We don't all know it all these days... at least not at the same time :0)
Picking up on Steve G's point again, is it felt that the Modern & Crossover scenes can often be a breaking ground for the wider 'Northern' scene?
Tell you what though, a bit quiet in here tonight.
SS Members normally have no problem making recommendations.
Here's my recent tip anyhow. Soulful midtempo I've played for a while now that deserves broader acceptance.
A previously unreleased Chess / Muscle Shoals track (only Vinyl imprint is Japanese).
Bobby Moore 'Can't Get Away'.

So far these are all known oldies - and have all been played on the modern / crossover scene.
Mmmmmmmmm
Think you're absolutely right Steve.
So is that it then folks?
It's official?... there are no new sounds?
The well is dry?
We've always managed a 100 or so in previous years!
As a quick lookback, here's what folks came up with the first time we did this in 2007.
Did any of them make it?

Sonny Holly was played quite a lot in London as a new release. John Ridley has a page on him on his wqeb site https://www.sirshambling.com/artists_2012/H/sonny_holley/index.php
I thought I saw an An-Gel release of "Cheating" a while back, but now I'm not too sure.....

Hi all,
Well, its that time of year again
It's 12 months since we did the last 'Top Tips' thread... so, as it's now a Soul Source tradition, which started in 2007, here we go again!
Here's your opportunity to tip the tunes in your box for future greatness, during the forthcoming year... or simply list any number of records that you'd like to recommend to other Soul Sourcers.
You might be a DJ with that tasty unplayed, unknown, hardly played or semi-known 45 stuck in the back of your box that you'd love to play out... but haven't quite got around to it... yet!
You might be a collector, sitting on a tune that you know, if it got into the right hands, could become massive in the next 12 months.
It could be an LP track that, for whatever reason, has never been given the recognition it deserves.
It might be a tasty 'B' side that, given the right exposure, might just have what it takes to become a monster!
We're talking, Northern, Modern, Crossover or 'Just Soul' Whatever floats your boat!
With increased diversity around these days, this should be an interesting list!
How about those funky groovers. Are they now providing a rich new seam of quality music to add to the Northern playlists?
No need to post sound clips. Just let us know what you've got that you think deserves a really big plug in the coming year!
So come on. Look at your box and let's have your top tip (or tips) for 2014.
Oh... and a Happy (and Soulful) New Year to all!

Was this pressed with the instrumental on other side. If so wouldn't SS need the original tapes?
No; same flip as the Soul label copy "Sweeter as The Days Go By"

Gold Wax would be as rare as the Professionals Sean.
Hot wax, surely!

Bottom line is Moses Smith, Tomangoes and Salvadors are simply much better records than the other three (to my ears at least, lol) so I imagine that fans of the former would generally have no problem with the latter!

Yep, you're right Sean.
Momentary mindslip.
Know the feeling Joe.
Happens to me all the time.
Information overload.

Benny Johnson - Stop Me - Today.
Was booted on another label, then hundreds of originals turned up.
Mmmmmmmmm Don't recall that Joe.
You don't mean Rosie Jones 'Have Love Will Travel' do you?
Came out on a Sound Gems boot and then the Today copies turned up in quantity.
Benny Johnson was never in demand, not for a minute, and was around in huge quantity, a solid 10p Soul packer, from the day it was released.
Confused of Chesterfield.

me and my imagination b/w they say made no 40 on the rnb charts in the usa on the 25th february 1967...so if it was bootlegged in 1966 it would be nothing short of a miracle.... i dont think it came out in 65 at all. gold wax 114 is unnissued i think but 45 cat have it as big lucky carter `ohio bound`... the seller by the way is a friend of mine who only deals in originals
great record by the way
I have the same West Indian Stateside Dave. Had it for decades.
Love the title 'The Say' - like some kind of 60's dance craze!
A Definite original and the only way to own it

Tried with this a few times over the years, mid 90's, Pitches, Phoenix years. Must have been fairly unknown back then, good to see some interest in it again.
