  1. I've got well over 10,000 45's and 5,000 + LP's. There are days I look at them and think, wow, what an incredible collection of superb Soul Music! And today is one of those days. Just wanted to share that with you. Sean PS: But I know how you feel. In 1984 I though FFS, I've created a Monster! I sold 3 car loads to Rob Smith and was glad to see the back of them. Kept just the stuff I just wouldn't sell... ...or couldnt sell! And, for a little while, was happy to sit on a small but beautifully formed collection of a couple of thousand. But... day by day it started creeping back. Like rising damp. See something I never had and wanted it. See something I'd once had and sold... and wanted it back. Bought a record a day (as an absolute minimum) and slowly but surely I ended up up to my neck in them once again. Hey, if we can't do what truly makes us happy, what can we do? I had a strong desire to off load a few recently, but a good friend talked me out of it. A bit like talking me off the roof of a building. He said, 'mate, we're getting old. In your old age you'll want nothing better than to 'enjoy' your records'. And I think he's got a point. Just so long as I can afford a tin of soup and pay my heating bills
  2. It was a great night Dave. A celebration of Wo-Magic! Thank you for reminding me. 24 hours since the sad news was confirmed and I'm still feeling numb. The many beautifully written and heartfelt, considered, tributes I've read on here and on Facebook today say so much about how important Bobby Womack was to music and to our lives. Losing him was something that many of us have been braced for, these past 3.5 years, but it still came as a shock and we all feel a great sense of loss. Thank you Bobby Womack. You were the greatest.
  3. Rest In Peace - The Last Soul Man. Sean

  5. Cheers Dean. It ought to sell a Million! Here is a huge bunch of unknown (or hardly known) Top Drawer real Soul Music - brought out of the cold and into the light for our listening pleasure by Ace Kent. A CD that EVERYONE who calls themself a Soul fan must own! I'm selling up and keeping this one. Thank you. Sean
  6. Just wanted to give a quick heads up on another essential and superb compilation from the Sounds of Memphis archive, out next week on Kent. Compiled by Dean Rudland its a stunning collection of real Soul music; all tempos for all tastes! I've put together a short clip of just a few of the highlights! It's pretty incredible stuff to my ears. See what you think! Cheers, Sean
  7. Yep - CD Only. Always fills dancefloors for me. Infectious! Sean
  8. And here's a superb Daryl Hall track that I've always found works wonderfully well with a bit of Marvin Gaye alongside in Modern sets I've done for the past number of years. Sean
  9. Not strictly 'Northern' but here's a beautiful slice of Philly Crossover I've raved about forever! So looking forward to seeing them in Nottingham and Manchester next month! Sean
  10. Good mornin' all. I need your help. Does anyone know the email address or other contact details for the Soul Source member Longy? A book is soon to be published on Mod culture which covers the soul scene to a large extent. Longy once posted an 80's Allnighter scene photograph on Soul Source and the author would like permission to reproduce that photograph in the book. I did try pm'ing Longy 26th May but he has not been on here since that morning and hasn't read the message. if someone who knows Longy can get in touch with him and ask him to reply to the pm I'd be very grateful. In the event of my not being able to make contact with him does anyone else have such an image that the author might be given permission to use? Deadline is looming and a suitable photograph is needed urgently. Image is attached to give you an idea of what they are looking for. Many thanks, Sean

  12. I'm still stunned by this. Couldn't be more shocked if I'd found the copy myself. Think I was the first person to ask the mysterious NickW how much he wanted for it. I'm still waiting to hear He may decide to keep it - and fair play to him if he does - but if it ever comes up for sale I'd certainly be in the bidding. What makes it really unique - and somehow more intoxicating and important than other 'rarities' that have surfaced in the past 40 odd years - is that none of us knew that it even existed! It was a myth, a fantasy, a piece of fiction... a legend! This iconic piece has every possible credential and has raised the game completely. I said it before and I'll say it again, after this ANYTHING is possible! Sean

  14. Saw it on here last night. Hardly slept a wink! After this ANYTHING is possible. Sean
  15. I had the first track on tape, must be 28+ years ago (circa '85?). it was listed on the tape box as Ike Perry 'Keep On Walking'. Always thought it coulda, shudda, been a big Northern record. Sean
  16. This is the same as my copy. Sean
  17. A brilliant mind. A kind and considerate gentleman. A man of impeccable good taste. I'm stunned and very sad at the loss of our friend. Rest in Peace Bob. You will be missed by all of us. Sean
  18. UK Issue and UK Demo on Mr Manship's site. https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/search/Artist/100%2BPROOF/all/1 Fantastic record, I remember playing on the radio a few years ago. Mancha magic! Sean
  19. You might be pleased to hear that Richard's 'Soul Sauce' show is back on the radio from next week! Richard's message reads as follows: FROM SUNDAY JUNE 29th, NORTHERN SOUL COMES TO SOLAR RADIO! A brand new show exclusive to Solar Radio starts from Sunday June 29th, when I launch a two hour programme of collectors’ soul. I ‘m taking my “Soul Sauce” programme to Solar Radio having first established the brand in the early 80s , and the show will be split into two distinct segments. In hour one , between 4 and 5pm , “A Cellar full of Soul” I will be retracing the glory years of Northern Soul , recounting experiences from some of the legendary venues such as the Wigan Casino, The Manchester Ritz , the 100 Club and the Twisted Wheel, as well as all that’s making the scene so vibrant to this day. A fast moving, uplifting blend of the very best 60s rare soul that makes “Northern Soul” a worldwide phenomenon, and has inspired a feature film to be released later this year. Then, at 5pm, we switch the mood to a deeper selection of my favourite all time soul tracks in an hour called “Rare….and well done”. Expect the unexpected, a heady mix of esoteric soul sides from any era — as long as they are top quality soul, they will be featured in this hour. “ This is something I ve been thinking about doing for quite some time, and Solar Radio is the obvious vehicle for what I hope will be a programme that listeners welcome. The first hour brings a dedicated Northern Soul hour to the station, while in the second hour I m looking to feature many hidden gems from my collection, with no particular regard to their vintage — as long as they are stunners , they will be featured in a hour that applauds great soul, whether by well known or more obscure talent”. Solar Radio can be heard via live streaming at www.solarradio.com , as free-to-air service on Sky channel 0129, and via the Solar Radio apps for Android and iPhone and on the TuneIn app.” Enjoy! Sean
  20. Was my old 'Roscoe Shelton' cover up late 70's / early 80's at Bradford etc. Never really took off, but a really great record. Beautifully sung deepie on t'other side too! Incidentally, it doesn't say 'Preacher' on the 45 - Just 'Jimmy Ellis' (might help when searching). Good luck! Sean
