  1. It's the B Side to 'Please' Backbeat 594. I have seen it at £100 (it's the hardest Hinton Backbeat 45) but hope you do get one for £40 (a fairly realistic price). Superb record that I first heard played out by Bob Cosby and have used myself ever since!
  2. I've only just started mine, Mike... and expect it to be completed by the weekend.... but the PA is not back until 2nd Jan so it will have to follow soon after. If it's any consolation I've not even had the time to listen to most of those received. Have only unpacked and heard Rupert and John Reeds thus far (and awesome stuff they are too). Guess I'm in for a treat. Keep mulling over the tracklist for my own comp. Been enjoying so much good new material this past 6 months (as I've not been able to get at the remnants of my collection) but the past few days I've also been through a load of stuff I'd not been able to get to, so expect a few 'forgotten' and 'rediscovered' things to be included. Finger is well and truly 'out' Chris and agree, there's no excuse for participating, receiving and not delivering... ...but patience is a virtue!
  3. Wondered what you'd been up to! Have let the spare room out to an Albanian family in your absence.
  4. Pete's right. Jon Ford has always been a desirable and pretty scarce British piece. I tried tracking it down for years during the mid 70's... and then Junked a mint copy in 79 for 50p on the Whicker in Sheffield. The one on Manships is a relative bargain at a ton!
  5. Magnificent! Thank you and Merry Christmas. Sean
  6. Jeez John, where did those 15 years go? It was Rodders in the 'Christmas Hamper' issue of VTFS as I recall! Think he also belatedly tipped "If I Lose Your Love" (Johnnie Taylor) in the same issue. Crackin little Mag. Where's the 2007 issue Rod?
  7. Happy Christmas to all and the very best for a Soulful 2008. Sean
  8. John, Kevin put this on tape for me in 1988. Took me about 5 hours to buy the LP. Just an Awesome tune! Merry Christmas Buddy! Sean
  9. Probably not John, but to be fair I don't think the writer had ever heard 'Gonzalez' at the time he did the review. Redkon he was too deep into that 'Detroit / Northern' stuff to have even heard "Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet".
  10. Saniwsh Acetate, Jock. Clip on Rarest of The Rare.
  11. pm'd you. Sean
  12. Awesome 45 Russ! Wouldn't swap mine for a Tap Dancing Turkey.
  13. They're all proper. The owner passed away a few years ago and his wife sold the lot in a yard sale. Master tapes, 45's, 3 years worth of recordings (69 - 71) the whole nine yards. All great stuff! Sean
  14. It is indeed. "Honey Baby" also came out on UK Private Stock.
  15. Great Double Sider!
  16. Well you are an honory 'Rotherham Lad' Gavin!
  17. Spot on Steve! First time the Rotherham lads heard Sam play it down at Essence we started throwing things in the direction of the decks! It's kind of a tradition now, whenever Sams on!
  18. Ah! Hot Wax... Rose Marie....one of my favourite labels! Nice! Merry Christmas Gavin, And may you be visited soon by the 'Ghost of Christmas Presents(s)'... rather than that other Bugger! Merry Christmas and 'God Bless Us, Every One!' Sean
  19. I think you're right, Sebastian as I suggested on post 15. It doesn't have Nashville Matrix yet it DOES have a very dodgy looking scratched on Matrix... and a Lazer Copy style label... so I'd say it's a 'Boot'.... even though it 'looks' like a proper one at first glance! What's the history of the record? Who owned it previously (UK? US?)... and was it dirt cheap?
  20. Best give you all the heads up well in advance. Apologies but I won't be getting mine out in time for Christmas (the CD's that is!). Intend to do them between Christmas and New Year. And anyway, you've not had my previous one five minutes! Out first thing in the New Year... by which time I should be able to get to the records... and that's a promise! Sean
  21. Right, John, I think we're all agreed. The Holidays US Groove City 45 version The 'Rare Stamps' LP 'JJ Barnes' version The UK Stax 45 'JJ Barnes' version Are all the same record... ...by Steve Mancha. Sean
  22. Old mate of mine from Newark, Geoff. Think he did that with all his records back then.
  23. Certainly Clifton over "Thorne" Thorne had almost nothing to do with "Northern Soul"... ... and it wasn't a Nighter!
  24. Spot on Gareth. They are the exact SAME recording. On the JJ Barnes UK STAX 45, the flip to "Baby lease Come Home" this is ALSO the same Steve Mancha (Holidays) record. So in short, if you need the 45, go for the UK STAX JJ Barnes copy, cos it's the same darn thing! Sean
  25. Good Call Ashley! Advertise this as a straight 'MOTOWN NIGHT' with DJ's playing Pure MOTOWN and 'Club Soul' promoted well 'outside' of the regular NS Circle (i.e. to the '40 something' public at large - Dinnington Guardian Reader) and you'd pack the Lyric to the Rafters. But in the case of the Dinnington punter, 'Pie & Peas' would be an essential! Sean
