Shades of Na Allen "Thanks for nothing" in the intro... but that's no bad thing
I'll be tuned into Steve's show tomorrow for the full but no doubt 'jingled' version!
Chalky - Steve usually does a download for his shows, at some point - you just need to keep on at him :-)
Shades of Na Allen 'Thanks For Nothing' throughout the whole thing John.
Said the same thing to Ady a couple of weeks ago.
And yes... the 'Jingle Remix' is what you'll be hearing tomorrow!
Enjoy matey!

That's great I'd like to hear the whole record, can't wait till I do but unfortunately I won't get to hear Steve tomorrow. Will there be a listen again?
Who was responsible for unearthing this? Ace/Kent or did you get it via other means Sean? Well done to whoever it was.
Hi Mate, don't know if there's a 'listen again' on Solar, but you can be sure it'll be getting lots of plays this spring & summer.
Ace / Kent have the Dore Catalogue and (as with Spencer Wiggins, Willie Walker, Willie Bollinger, Candi Staton and others of a 'crossover' or midtempo nature) they've entrusted me and Steve Plumb to spread the word... along, of course, with Mr C.

Awesome is a pretty overused word these days, around the forums and on Facebook etc. to describe a particularly good Soul record, but in all honesty, I don’t think it would be an over exaggeration to describe something that was sent to me, only a short while ago, as ‘absolutely AWESOME!’
This is a previously unreleased POWERHOUSE of a soul record by the great, southern soul artist, Toussaint McCall, recorded during his brief period with Dore.
This wonderful track entitled ‘Laughed (Until I Cried)’ is without doubt a very significant find and the best thing I’ve heard since the unreleased, at the time, Bobby Moore from a couple of years ago (the breath-taking ‘Can’t Get Away’) and Soul music aficionados will be pleased to hear it’s in a similar vein; soulful, incredible, pleading, lyrics, ‘deep with a beat’ rhythm and fabulous backing vocals!
I’m gonna try and post a short clip and you’ll be able to judge for yourselves, and in fact you should be able to tune into Steve Plumb this Sunday on Solar Radio between 8pm — 10pm when, at some point, a fuller version will be played.
I've exposed this to only a couple of friends and they feel the same as I do. This is a really great Soul track that, sadly, has been lying in the vaults for almost 50 years and is now simply dying to be heard and danced to, as always intended. It’s envisaged there’ll be a release some time later this year, via Ace/Kent who own the rights to Dore, but meanwhile, it’s a real privilege to be able to share something this good so you can be sure you’ll be hearing it played loud this Spring & Summer at such esteemed places as the Prestatyn, Soul Essence and Cleethorpes Weekenders (and wherever else Ady Croasdell, Steve Plumb and myself will be doing our funky thing).
Enjoy!
Sean.

I realised that Sean, and had attempted to blank out my post before anyone noticed. That will teach me to try and dip my toes into the strange world of Rare Soul talk !!!
I'm with you on that Mike. They are a strange lot if this thread's owt to go by!
OK Folks, any more for any more?
Gonna do a consolidated list later tonight and then wrap it up!
Always believed that as a Soul DJ and Soul lover the biggest part is to share, spread and promote the music.
Thanks for all the positive contributions so far.
Quite possibly the most varied list we've had in the past 7 years.
If you've been turned on to just one new track that someone has kndly taken the time to post on here, it's been worth it!
Cheers,
Sean

and Al Perkins recorded it twice - on Atco and Buddah.
I just mentioned that above Mike.
To be honest, I've always felt the Buddah 45 was the same vocal take as the ATCO 45, with a changed backing track and strings overlayed, rather than a seperate recording.

jump on over for the next Hip City in March and I guarantee you WILL hear it played it out loud. On a side note...white CRS demo ...lovely !
you mean our "Rimini" situation...? No, LOL
Yes Marc, talking the fabulous uptempo c/u you played at Rimini that I blurted out the artist to you... as I've had that for about 35 years too!
Say no more

Nice version - one to look out for . German only b side ?
Yes Andy.
Its on the 'Maybe' Roulette LP which is what I used to play it from 30 odd years ago, Bradford Queens Hall etc. But then I later came across the German Bellaphon 45. With the interest in the unreleased Motown versions, which turned up a few years ago, I feel this certainly has legs, in a storming 'old school' Northern stylee!

Nice pick Kieran
From the pens of Bobby Womack and Jerry Butler. Got a version of this by Al Perkins which I think is the first one - I could be wrong. Mr Deep Dave T will put me right if I am.
Peter
Hi Peter, Al Perkins 'Yes My Goodness Yes' actually came out twice by Al Perkins, originally on ATCO then later with strings overlayed on BUDDAH.
Has an amazing pedigree with Womack, Butler and Hughes at the helm!

Not unknown of course but if I was jocking at certain events such as Just Soul, Majestic, Horse & Groom etc I'd be bashing the shit outta this
Clarence Reid - Living Together Is Keepin' Us Apart
Bigger dance floor smash than the Monster Mash
Nice one Dave. Same track as the Invitations. Used to play 'Please Stay Home' off this LP.

Last one form me today. Love to play this early doors or late (last spot). I just love the way Carl Holmes aka Sherlock Holmes (of "Standing At A Standstill" ) imitates Marvin Gayes "Whats Going On" towards the end.
Have had this on W/D CRS for over 30 years Marc. Would be nice to hear that played out!
BTW, How about that other thing we have in common? Are you tipping that one?
Cheers,
Sean

Little Ron Johnson - I keep telling you (Hard Times)
Happy New Year, Steve
That's a 'proper' Soul record in my book.
You may like this spin of mine from a few years back.
Only vinyl format is Japanese.

A couple of nice and soulful midtempo things that could certainly use a little more action!
First up, Inell Young's 'Ive Never Considered' a lovely slice of New Orleans followed by a gorgeous Impressions sounding Chicago group sound from the Dontells!

A couple of 'crossover' tracks I've played lots in recent years, that I hope can gain wider acceptance.
And a track I featured and played from LP for a good while, only to find it snook out on this 'misprint' 45 promo... now safely in the box!

OK, as it's Sunday and if we're going back to church, here's a couple I've played that may not be widely known and as they are both pretty uptempo, I reckon could still gain wider acceptance.
Play loud!

Its not all about finding and owning big ticket rare records!
Spot on Nev. And definitely in the spirit of the thread.
As we state at the outset 'It could be an LP track that, for whatever reason, has never been given the recognition it deserves. It might be a tasty 'B' side that, given the right exposure, might just have what it takes to become a monster!
And more in recent times, I think we could add 'it could be a recent release that's been laying dormant for decades or something recently recorded that simply has the right 'sound'.
Excellent stuff.
Cheers.

Well, after a bumpy start, I think we're getting somewhere!
Some really great contributions from all around, with a few half decent newer cuts and a couple of surprise 'revivals' have made this all really interesting.
And, from many of the comments I've read and received, there appears to be quite a few folk genuinely interested and grateful for the music that's been suggested, so please keep 'em coming and don't be bashful!
Have just spent an hour or so tidying this lot into something resembling a list and here's how its looking:

Always loved this thread at the start of the year but it seems to have gone a bit T*TS up this year . Maybe grumpy old men syndrome has struck , I know I,ve got it.
Some lovely stuff there.
Great contribution Dave, in the true spirit of the thread.
Someone with his ear to the ground and more than willing to share.
