  1. I'm still stunned by this.

Couldn't be more shocked if I'd found the copy myself.

Think I was the first person to ask the mysterious NickW how much he wanted for it.

I'm still waiting to hear

He may decide to keep it - and fair play to him if he does - but if it ever comes up for sale I'd certainly be in the bidding.

What makes it really unique - and somehow more intoxicating and important than other 'rarities' that have surfaced in the past 40 odd years - is that none of us knew that it even existed!

It was a myth, a fantasy, a piece of fiction... a legend!

This iconic piece has every possible credential and has raised the game completely.

I said it before and I'll say it again, after this ANYTHING is possible!

  2. You might be pleased to hear that Richard's 'Soul Sauce' show is back on the radio from next week!

    Richard's message reads as follows:

FROM SUNDAY JUNE 29th, NORTHERN SOUL COMES TO SOLAR RADIO!

A brand new show exclusive to Solar Radio starts from Sunday June 29th, when I launch a two hour programme of collectors’ soul.

I ‘m taking my “Soul Sauce” programme to Solar Radio having first established the brand in the early 80s , and the show will be split into two distinct segments.

In hour one , between 4 and 5pm , “A Cellar full of Soul”  I will be retracing the glory years of Northern Soul , recounting experiences from some of the legendary venues such as the Wigan Casino, The Manchester Ritz , the 100 Club and the Twisted Wheel, as well as all that’s making the scene so vibrant to this day.

A fast moving, uplifting blend of the very best 60s rare soul that makes “Northern Soul” a worldwide phenomenon, and has inspired a feature film to be released later this year.

Then, at 5pm, we switch the mood to a deeper selection of my favourite all time soul tracks in an hour called “Rare….and well done”. Expect the unexpected, a heady mix of esoteric soul sides from any era — as long as they are top quality soul, they will be featured in this hour.

“ This is something I ve been thinking about doing for quite some time, and Solar Radio is the obvious vehicle for what I hope will be a programme that listeners welcome. The first hour brings a dedicated Northern Soul hour to the station, while in the second hour I m looking to feature many hidden gems from my collection, with no particular regard to their vintage — as long as they are stunners , they will be featured in a hour that applauds great soul, whether by well known or more obscure talent”.

Solar Radio can be heard via live streaming at www.solarradio.com , as free-to-air service on Sky channel 0129, and via the Solar Radio apps for Android and iPhone and on the TuneIn app.”

    Enjoy!

  3. Was my old 'Roscoe Shelton' cover up late 70's / early 80's at Bradford etc.

Never really took off, but a really great record.

Beautifully sung deepie on t'other side too!

Incidentally, it doesn't say 'Preacher' on the 45 - Just 'Jimmy Ellis' (might help when searching).

    Good luck!

  4. Sorry Steve, I was about to add that to my comment as to if he meant a UK release but went and forgot myself!  :(

Did it get a release number then - on Salsoul I guess?

    Hi John,

I've got a UK Test Pressing of this. If you recall, I played it at Essence in the goodbye songs on Sunday.

Agree the US copy is quite scarce, but the UK one was never issued so it's nice to have.

As a 70's UK label Soul record its got to be one of the rarer ones, but no harder than Revelation Movement which was a proper issue immediately withdrawn.

    Sean

PS: My UK Timi Yuro cost me a quid from Worksop Market, so how rare can that be :D

  5.

I bet you do know him pete. it is mitch parkin from sheldon, he is an old soulie and has collected soul records for many years

i find it hard to believe that he would get embroiled in something like this , for a thirty pound record. i have personally known him

for at least 25 years, and i consider him to be a salt of the earth character, ask johnny weston, he is a good friend of his too

    VERY STRANGE

Yep - I agree. Very unusual.

Must be a mix up somewhere Sean. To my knowledge Mitch Parkin is as straight as they come.

    A proper collector.

Big mates with the Gouch, Sean.

Hope it gets sorted for both of you.

  7. It's a 'Pop - Soul' kinda thing.

    It's certainly not James Carr.

    It's not even Sam Dees.

    It's definitely not Lou Pride.

It's 'Baby Love' for a new generation.

It's happened before and it will happen again..when most of us are all dead and gone.

It's all only Rock N' Roll and I like it... a bit.

  8.  Am I living in a parallel universe here?

I read threads all the time on here telling me the "scene " as never been better, more events than there as ever been ( point taken there will never been an event where people head to the same  venue in their hundreds/thousands  on a weekly basis ever again)

And yet i am being told a track  as turned up that is an  "Awesome discovery", teased with a  40 second play, told we can tune into a radio show to listen to the full track, told if we attend certain weekenders we can can here it played out, then finally we will be able to buy it.(Not a bad sounding tune by the way)IMHO

Hats off to everybody involved in the discovery, breaking, playing of the said track, but please don't anyone tell me the scene has never been better, when tunes  were turned over at a rate of knots we could only dream about today?

I know this may upset people, but i am quite happy to post what i think, put on my tin hat and retreat 100 yards!

Think I'm with you all the way there.

Don't think for a minute that 'the scene has never been better'.

Also agreed, there was a time when great quality records were turning up every week.

Sadly, those days are long gone.

Hence the big push on the above. It's rare we hear anything 'new' anywhere near as good.

    Glad you liked the record.

Here's hoping Ace / Kent find more awesome discoveries in the Dore vaults, during the months ahead.
