  1. So what kind of collection have I got? Or Kev Briscoe? Or John Benson? Or Tats Taylor? Last thing I'd be doing is carting my entire Record collection around to a Soul Night. One has very little to do with the other (IMO). Nobody would have a clue what I own from just looking at the decks - other than whats on at that time! Do we want to turn the 'so called' PROGRESSIVE Soul scene into some kind of 'Antiques flippin Roadshow' Wheres the va-vav voom in that?
  2. Hah! That'll be pretty much the same list as I was thinking about doing... 'DJ's / Venues that are more interested in showing off Collectors pieces than in Music' I'll give it a miss though if you're doing it! Sean
  3. 5. 'We just don't like, or can't use CD's'' Sean
  4. Good question. We need a definition! Does "Original Vinyl Only" mean.. 1. 'We only play records on vinyl as they originally appeared' (Ann Sexton on Impel) (David Sea on Hy-Tide) 2. 'We also play records on vinyl as they may have appeared later... but they are legit' (Ann Sexton on 77) (David Sea on T-Jaye) 3. 'We only play records on vinyl as they originally appeared... in whatever country' (Baltimore & Ohio Marching Band "Condition Red" Oz Stateside) 4. 'We only play records on vinyl... and are quite prepared to play records that have never legitimately appeared on vinyl... as long as we play them on vinyl that we've had 'done' for us' Sean
  5. There are others... but you're right mate. On that note, I rest my case! Sean
  6. No it doesn't Chalks. I remember seeing it coming through on the new release sheets, circa 1973, with "I'm Alive With A Loving Feeling" on the flip! Tough one though. Sean
  7. As Chalky just said above! Must get a faster PC & Connection!
  8. Either Dobie Gray or George Jackson, Steve... (Most probably Dobie's) ...but I guess you figured that out for yourself since leaving school
  9. Well you don't need one, if you're in a stable, Beeks! They work best on a motor!
  10. I know that buddy! Think the thread would have died a death though, if I hadn't brought 'Soul Sounds' 'Reissues' and 'MFP' to the party! Far more interesting than boring OVO!
  11. Steve, Both "Indiana Wants Me" and "Gotta see Jane" were big hits in the UK and constant Radio spins at the time. That's why the "Indiana" MFP was released. Every Pop & Soul fan knew who R Dean Taylor was. S'true!
  12. Steve, Me, Kev and Tats saw them in Memphis a couple of months ago. They perform two nights a week at a Rib joint at the top of Beale Street. We had a great night with them. Just an Incredible performance. They even sang "Do You Love Me Baby" for me and the lads! They told us about Lee, trucking in Texas... but they didn't say that they were truckers too! Sean
  13. Haven't I seen N.5OUL on someones motor? Was it Arthur's?
  14. Hi Steve, then I too am a sad twat. I've X8 SPH (my initials) on the Aston and X5XEX on the X5. Nothing to do with soul, but I just felt compelled to show my support!
  15. Purist! Always sounded great to me! In any case - who had a 'Stereo' in them days?
  16. You're a Cad Mr G.... .... I only collect Soul Sounds and OOTP because they are a Bona Fide part of our History. Guess that's my problem... I collect every darn thing! US / UK / Oz / EU / 60's / 70's / 80's / 90's / Y2K / LP's / CD's / Acetates / Test Pressings / Tapes / 8 Tracks.... etc! Great for those quiet nights in though!
  17. Nah Paul... I was playing "One Way Out" locally when it first came out on the Sounds Superb / Mfp "Dancing In the Street" LP. Got to be around 73? It was soon after I heard it played at Wigan and announced as being by someone else - I dunno who was the DJ - may have been Dave Evison? Certainly it became very Big a few years later. But in this case the Suvverners definitely beat you to it! Can we have an MFP thread? Sean
  18. With you there Paul. Just got a chill down my spine just thinking about it. Transported me right back to me yoof that did! Incredible track! (even if slightly off topic) Sean
  19. Nah! I'm not that good Jez! (but I do have the complete collection... ). Some great records there... if only for domestic use, of course!
  20. Hiya Jock... even late 80's is well after its issue (15 + years?). Certainly wasn't a popular play down here until early/mid 90's, but either way... the point is that it was more of an 'Oxfam Shop find' for years... as opposed to a dancefloor favourite! Just wouldn't have fit the bill before then... ...but I accept that the Scots beat the Anglo Saxons to it! Slainte!
  21. Very early 73/74? Before it was a 'known' tune as such. Couldn't believe me ears when it was played and still recollect the shock! Never did find out who it was announced as being by, which is why I asked. Sean
