  1. What's a 'Brit' Bernie Moore on Baz? Not seen one o' them mate! Sean
  2. Wondered where i got it from. Can't believe I didnt bid for it if it was on eBay . Bargain I reckon. Sean
  3. How rare is the 12"? The bloke who's coming to install my new Central Heating Boiler tomorrow has got one! A really nice record. I struggle to see who it was aimed at commercialy... ...it's so good! Sean
  4. Wouldn't trade for a Tap Dancing Turkey!
  5. Didn't it used to be thought of as an Acetate only track? Pretty certain Rod Dearlove used to play it as an unreleased thing at Thorne, or am I mistaken? Sean
  6. I've cracked a Natural Four "I Thought You Were Mine" ABC issue, a Jack Montgomery "Dearly Beloved" Scepter Demo, Gladys Knight "No One Could Love You More" TMG Issue... but they were nothing compared to the flood! Don't get me started.
  7. Did I put that on tape for you, like errrr 20 odd years ago, John?
  8. Agree Tony. Always loved his stuff.... particularly the AWESOME Brent 45 "I Want Love".... just sublime! Anyone want to hear a simply gorgeous Soul record check this link and play it loud! Sean https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pQLX0S21Hjc
  9. Maybe you had to be there! Steve Luigi ran into a guy at a Record Fair over the weekend that told him that Millie Small of "My Boy Lollipop" fame was the same person as Millie Jackson of "My Man Is A Sweet Man" fame. I quipped that the same guy had told me that Marvin Gaye was also known as Marvin Smith, that Otis Redding was also known as Otis Clay... and that Donny Hathaway was previously known as Donny Osmond. Any road up... Brook Benton and Brenton Wood are not the same person. People seem to confuse the two for some reason. A bit like someone asking you if you're the same Ernie Andrews who did "This Is Your Life" Sean
  10. Yeh, reckon that's right, Tony, on reflection. The "Blue Horizontal" does look quite dated. The light green copy was definately early 70's, as you say, so did come later. See... 'It's not enough to know - you've got to know that you know' Oh... and always let your yeh be yeh! Sean
  11. Can just see people looking for the "Brook Wood sings Brenton Benton" album. Mmmmm, wonder if Brook Wood and Chuck Wood are the same person? Sean
  12. OMG the Leeds Record Fair guy has a lot to answer for! "Where does a man go to cry" is Brook Benton too! Sean
  13. Contact either Tats or Rob Wigley, Dave. They took Ollies wife out for a meal one night (about 15 odd years ago) to get the story on Ollie... and to see if she'd any of those old records I'll leave one of them to tell you the story... but it's priceless! Sean
  14. You're very welcome Phil. My old Dad used to say 'It's not enough to know - you've got to know that you know' Guess it meant I should keep quiet 'til I knew for sure.... so I hope I'm right with what I've told you... ...(but I'm pretty sure I am) Cheers Sean
  15. Reckon Mel must have run into the guy at the Leeds Record fair, with Steve Luigi, John! Sean
  16. PMSL Give over Ian, You know you'd have loved it!
  17. What a great question! But I'd have said no!
  18. Sorry Steve, that's incorrect. The one pictured, that started the topic is most definitely from 1989. It was released in the UK on Mojo in 72 (and probably in Germany on Polydor soon after) but that's a UK SouthBound / Ace Records Re-issue, pressed in Germany. The previous number (701) on the same label was a Re-Issue of Isaac Hayes "Theme from Shaft". Sean
  19. Yes, the US Issue of "Soothe Me" was recorded live in Paris (1967). The studio version was on the 'Double Dynamite' LP in 66. The UK 45 is the LP studio cut (as far as I can tell with my one good ear!) . The Al Capone / One Step Beyond has been released at least three times in the UK on Blue Beat The original release is Blue with Silver type in a Radius across the top. The second was Light Green with similar typeface and the third was Blue with Silver type horizontal (pretty sure that was the order they were released in. Classic double sider - as is the Sam & Dave 45 which has the wicked "Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" on the flip! Sean
  20. Must be the same guy at a Leeds Record Fair that told me that Marvin Gaye was also known as Marvin Smith, that Otis Redding was also known as Otis Clay... and that Donny Hathaway was previously known as Donny Osmond. It was at that point I realised he was a total knobhead. Sean
  21. Yes, it's on the Home Cookin' LP from about '69 (but sounds earlier). Nice old fashioned midtempo thing. Sean
