  1. Deep Soul Buffs should check the flipside of this one. S.O.S is a killer - very (very, very) much in the mould of Otis Clay's immortal 'That's How It Is' . A crackin' Double Sider! Sean
  2. You're right Martin, Old Windmill and Clifton Hall tune o' mine! Absolutely WONDERFUL vocal and still virtually unheard of outside Sarf Yorkshire! Now thanks to the power of t'internet Radio... the whole world can enjoy :-) Sean
  3. Don't know for sure that it is, but either way I guess if those who've put it out are wanting DJ's to take it seriously 12" is much better! Sean
  4. Dunno mate for sure - only played it at home once when it arrived but pretty sure its the same. Nice Re-Issue I reckon, that many may have missed. Will probably appear on the bay in 2010 for 100 squid! Sean
  5. Recent 12" available here. https://www.juno.co.uk/products/325311-01.htm Sean
  6. Hi Martin, You can be sure they'll be in the box mate. Looking forward to it. Really Good buzz on this one! Sean
  7. Hi Mate, Glad you liked it. Sorry about the sponsorship request. Hope it didn't spoil your listening pleasure too much! Sean
  8. Ha Ha.... you cheeky monkey.... you been collecting pictures of my records? Hey, if I announced Milton as BMcC its cos I was all caught up in the passion of it all. Not heard two hours of Soul on Radio like it... ...well not since John Green did Soul Shotgun back in '74 Lovely stuff John. Looks like Samuel E. Wright's getting the vote from a lotta folk! A Jay-Bee classic if ever there was one! Sean
  9. Just beat me to it Pete, but I do have an Indian Stateside copy, that looks British, so I'll bet it's one of those. Sean
  10. About 10/11 years ago a bunch of us got into the back of a Record shop in Baltimore. Wading through the stuff, suddenly Bully shouts 'anyone know this? It's Gwen & Ray on Bee Bee? The big fella was nearly flattened in the rush - as Tats liberated it from his grasp! (If you see him... don't tell him what he passed up will ya! ) S'true - the Selectadisc Boots were a pretty good copy - but we knew that this was the real deal. Certainly was a Monster sound back in the day! Sean
  11. Thanks John (nice Avatar Buddy) and thanks to all! Really enjoyed the banter with Mick and the chance to play a few of my personal faves! Loved the emails coming in from the likes of John, Pat Bickerstaff, Paul Thrower and Colin Brown etc. You've all got excellent taste, fellas and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Can't wait to hear it meself :-) and Mick's even threatened to have me back once the new gig's underway next year! Lovely - a chance to play the other 50+ tracks that I didn't get to squeeze in! Don't know when it goes on t'internet? Any ideas? Sean
  12. Hi Patrick, Should be awesome... (the Sunday Lunch, not the show ). You just put your feet up and enjoy.... and have a Cold 'un for me mate! All the best. Sean
  13. Phew! Heats off! Mick phoned me and I now know where I'm going. Will be digging deep in the box for the show, so if you want to hear something a liddle bit different it might be worth tuning in! Sean
  14. Its my old 'Sunny & The Sunliners" cover up from Bradford Queens Hall nighters many moons ago (early 80's). Always thought it was a crackin, if not rather too frantic, tune! I also played it at the Lifeline weekender back in Feb this year. Nice version of Otis Redding "Loving You Too Long" on the flip. Sean
  15. Goodnight and God Bless Levi Stubbs A true Giant of Soul Music. R.I.P. Sean
  16. Yes, please check Steve. Was up all night talking to Rob Hurcombe about this very issue, earlier this week. He 'thinks' his says Innovation but I reckon it's actually Innervision and that we all go word blind when faced with a full set of anything. Cheers matey! The Poser Man
  17. I know what you mean! Still shaking my head in complete shock and despair!
  18. Not heard from Cambridge!!! Mick... are you out there? Anyone got Directions or an address for the Soul Discovery Radio jobby? Cheers, Sean
  19. Post 35 mate Still shaking my head in complete shock and despair!
  20. Think you might have to come and spend a couple of years in the UK and be subjected to the Radio, TV, and Club music we endure to understand why I reckon this particular track might be of 'special interest' to SS members, Bob. US Radio is far more 'open' to Soul & RnB as a general rule. Suggest we House Swap for 6 months, just to get things started :-) Sean
  21. Hi Nick, To my knowledge they're identical mate. The WB issue tends to be the rarer of the two. My copy says INNERVISION rather than INNOVATION - I think they all do actually - but most people list it (and seem to read it) as the latter! Lovely tune! Sean
  22. Great call on "If Only We Had Met Sooner" Dave... and certainly, to many of us Linda Jones is the great 'uncrowned' Queen of Soul. Still adore Aretha and a great deal of her 'post Columbia' work. Sending her down to Muscle Shoals was Jerry Wexler's master stroke, unlocking a fabulous vocal range and energy I feel she'd never properly used before. There's no doubting her incredible contribution to Soul Music. I'll take 'em both, any day of the week over 99% of other Female vocalists (of all genres) and to trying to compare one 'very different' artist over the other is quite pointless and gets us nowhere. But that someone can listen to 'Northern' and admit to never having sat down and listened to an Aretha Franklin record leaves me shaking my head in complete shock and despair! me - shaking my head in complete shock and despair! Staggered. Sean
  23. You know I will! Cheers Ady. Standing by! Sean
  24. Its only sounds of this nature that tend to become 'mainstream r&b' hits in the UK, Bob. The last big one was probably Alicia Keys "You Don't Know My Name". It's quite a bit more palatable, as a sound, to the UK ear, probably because even though its current it has a retro 'feel'... and we relate to what we know and 'hear a lot of' much easier and tend to struggle with the sound of 'contemporary' r&b as chart material. It follows in the tradition of sounds like Mary Wells "My Guy"... progressed through Freda Payne "Band Of Gold" and Alicia Keys etc. It also explains why Motown sounding 4/4 Pop material gets played on the UK 'Soul' scene over most contemporary R&B and will be why Gogs mentioned it on Soul Source. Sean
