  1. Sweet Sweet Love - Bobby Sheen This Heart Of Mine - The Artistics. Both instantly recognisable and bloody great tunes IMHO. KTF. Drew.
  2. Fair enough Simon. I wasn't sure if that was the record I should have been using as an example. I'll have to ask the guy what record he was referring to. KTF. Drew.
  3. Thanks for the interest in the thread folks. The reason why I asked the question was that a year ago or so I was in conversation with a local DJ who said something like "the only last big discovery was George Pep's The Feeling Is Real. Now I think this is the artiste and record. If it isn't and this in no way was a Big discovery in the sense of the thread, then I apologize for my crap memory . If my memory on the record and artiste isn't wrong then does this fit the bill? KTF. Drew.
  4. Fine. But is this record something that pretty much everyone, DJ, collector or punter would know and rave about and it then become a scene anthem as it were? What were the last biggies to qualify in that sense? Don't forget my origional question; were they completly unknown etc? KTF. Drew.
  5. Fair point Winnie. KTF. Drew.
  6. Occasionaly on here posters will refer to 'the next big discovery' or 'the next big thing'. But what were the last big discoveries? What and when were they? Were they 'never been heard on the scene before (ever) tunes' or were they simply re-activated oldies that had never had much play the first time around? Is there a consensus as to what was the last big discovery? KTF. Drew.
  7. Would have said Willie Hutch but someone has chosen that. What about The Elusions - You Didn't Have To Leave. Love the horns in the vocal break. Sums it up for me and definately would give a none soulie a good idea of what it's all about. Great thread. KTF. Drew
  8. Crackin' Up Over You by Roy Hamilton a 'modern' soul tune?!!!!!! Now I am confused. KTF. Drew.
  9. Just been browsing on JMs site and heard just a scrap of this excellent, new to me, tune. Can't find it on any of the juke box sites I know. Anyone able to post up the full track please? This is my new fav (for today) record, it's fecking brill but I want to hear it fully. KTF. Drew
  10. KTF. Drew.
  11. Hello Dave. Will the first issue be available for sometime as I don't have the money for the subscription available at the moment? Other priorities like bills and kids birthdays coming up. Good job I don't collect rare soul records as I'd be a disgrace to the art putting things like these first!! KTF. Drew.
  12. There's a guy called Tom who goes to The Twisted Wheel, The Oakfield, Stockport Masonic and others in the NW on a very regular basis. Don't know him well but spoken a few times. Nice bloke and dances for hours!! Wears colourful waistcoats. I think he is in his 70's. Anyone who knows him better able to confirm this? KTF. Drew.
  13. Thanks Pete. Just retried a couple of the worst ones from earlier and they are fine now!! Must have been "the volume of traffic" thing you suggested. Don't know what it was in Spain though! Keep up with the clips. Drew.
  14. Pete. Been through a lot of these clips this afternoon. Some great stuff there. However, the clips keep 'stuttering' (stopping and starting), some quite badley which spoils the viewing and listening as you'd expect. Thing is I got back from my hols in Spain this morning and I logged on to this site a couple of times whilst there and the same thing was happening then so I guess that it's not my computer!? Is there anything that can be done to stop the problem or improve the clips? Are others getting this as well? KTF. Drew.
  15. Wonderful! Just got my 8yr old to watch it with me. He was silent all the way through and didn't take his eyes from it. I'm thinking "hooked"! When it ended he simply said "rubbish" and walked off!!!!!! Doh!!!!!!!! Keep trying. Drew.
  16. Goin' on me hols tomorrow. 3 weeks in Spain a few miles north of Benidorme. Anyone know of any bars/clubs were I might get some soul whilst away? KTF. Drew.
  17. Not had time to share this until now. Went to the lovely City of Lincoln Wednesday for a meeting. On the train journey back to Manchester I sat back with a bottle of red, a big bag of M&S Sea Salt and Crushed Black Pepper Crisps (a must with red wine), the sun shining, beautiful scenery and One-derful, Mar-V-Lus Northern Soul (30 Rare Dancers from 60's Chicago) CD belting though me earplugs. An absolute fecking pleasure. Anyone not familiar with the CD it's a Goldmine Soul Supply production and contains the following: Baby what has happened to our love The Ringleaders. Every beat of my heart The Du-ettes. Tired of being loney The Sharpees. I still can't get to you Joseph Moore. Spring song (New girl) The Accents. I don't know what to do Otis Clay. Don't leave me The Admirations. 'Aint gonna cry no more Josephine Taylor. Your love has got me down The Blenders. Who is she Lucky Laws. More power to you Harold Burrage. Don't fight it Willie Parker. Who are you gonna love The Accents. I'm satisfied Johnny Sayles. Don't you worry Joe & Mack. Lonely girl The Young Folk. Do the 45 The Sharpees. Wait til I get to know you The Admirations. Showplace Otis Clay. Please forgive me The Du-ettes. Don't hurt the one you love Willie Parker. Love is a good thing 'goin The Blenders. You better think again The Accents. Tell me where I stand Johnny Sayles. Would I do it over The Ultimations. Twine Time Alvin Cash & The Crawlers. Please love me Betty Everett. Behave yourself Miss Madeline. Master key Harold Burrage. Where will you be boy Beverly Shaffer. Awesome compilation!! Personal favourites: Behave yourself - Miss Madeline; Please love me - Betty Everett; The two Johhny Sayles tracks; Would I do it over - The Ultimations Where will you be - Beverly Shaffer and of course the fantastic I still can't get to you - Joseph Moore. Beats sitting in the car on a hot day anytime and managed to get a table seat and put the old feet up for most of the journey. Didn't want to go home. Any favs for you in that lot? KTF Drew.
  18. And I thought I was bored when I asked the question! How long did that take to type out SD? Keep On Dancin' Drew.
  19. I know it's a dance but does anyone know how it went and can you describe it? KTF. Drew.
  20. Made me bloody cry! KTF. Drew.
  21. Your'e dead right Ken beside the Woolley Jersey. Think it was called Bobby's or Bibby's or the like. Just a CD being played coming through speakers to the patio in front but some nice tunes in the afternnon sun. Anyway back to my origional question. The more I have thought about this tale the more I think I heard it on the radio on some history of Motown programme. KTF. Drew
  22. Sounds like somethging Stock, Aitkin and Waterman might have done! Doesn't do it for me Mark. Sorry.
  23. Don't follow Chris! KTF. Drew.
  24. Sat outside a bar on New Brighton front the other day and they were playing lots of Motown. I was with a mate (none soulie) who said "Motown records have a very distictive sound, that Cher Cha Cha Cher (Christ knows how you write it) in the background ". I goes into my knowledgable mode and told him a story that I thought was true (thought I'd heard it years ago somewhere) which was...............................Issac Hayes left Motown and whilst with another label in the studio got frustrated with the producer trying to get the Motown sound. The story is that he got a tambourine and taped it to the cymbal stand of the drum kit, giving away a Motown secret! Later I started to question myself as to my having heard this story and it being correct (or somthing similar) or had I dreamt it!!! Sure someone on here will set me straight. Actually we were sat there in the sun for a while and they were playing lots of decent (well known) sounds. Nice afternoon. Can't remember the name of the bar now! KTF. Drew.
