Frank Wilson On Soul Auction
What was the actual condition of the KB copy as he bought it. Kenny plays it out and I think he played it a year or two ago at Bury Town Hall nighter when I was there. Had it been played out much or played privately a great deal before he got it? Was the record mint, mint minus, VG or what, before Kenny had FW write on it? KTF. Drew.

Frank Wilson On Soul Auction
If the two known copies are plain light stone coloured, why have I seen more than once, an image showing the section of the lable with SOUL having a purple shading to it????? Is this just someone playing around with the image as it were or have I imagined it!!!!? Maybe I've just had too much red wine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KTF. Drew.

A Frank Wilson Question
I'm loving reading the FW auction thread like most on here I guess. Can't help but get caught up in the building excitement. Fascinating posts showing loads of knowledge that makes my jaw drop with admiration sometimes. However, I didn't wish to hijack the thread with this question. I do not hold a strong view either way but in the past there have been strong views about artistes and royalties by many on here. So here goes: Should Mr Wilson (who is still with us is he not) receive anything fiancially for the sale of the record, especially if it does reach a stratospheric price? Should he receive anything at all? Did he receive anything the last time a copy sold for a lot of money? It's possible this record could make some serious money so I'm curious as to what people think when some have argued, maybe quite rightfully, about artistes not being forgotten financially when their work is being sold. What's your view? KTF. Drew.

Del-royals.... Some Kinda Wonderful
I just can't stop playing this since I got a free CD that it's on at A Taste Of Honey last week. Many thanks Chris and Carlos, some nice tunes on the disc that are new to me. What I can't decide is if Some Kinda Wonderful is new to me. The tune by the Del-Royals is new to me, if you know what I mean. Has this song been done by someone else before The Del-Royals or been a bigger hit for someonelse? It's very Motownish to my ears and I keep thinking David Ruffin or the Temptations but can't find anything. Is it a Motown record? The only song with this title in refosoul is by The Soul Brothers Six and is a completely different song which I have heard before. I've googled SKW and The Soul Brothers Six record comes up along with records that are not soul but have used this title. The title/phase SKW has been used in other soul records I'm sure but I can't fathom if I've heard this tune years ago. Please would some kind person post a sound clip if possible (maybe Capt Morgan would kindly do it) as this tune is (using my favourite Phrase for great tunes) FOOOKIN' AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The arrangement on this is breathtaking IMHO. I love the piano in the breaks and the horn near the end. The vocals are superb. Soundclip please someone. KTF Drew.

Will The Real Simon Soussan Stand Up
Just spent the last hour re reading the whole thread after I realised it had been reactivated. Just as good reading as it was when the thread was new last year!!!!! Mr Levine, you must have some great stories about Simon Soussan so get cracking? KTF. Drew.

Gangsters And The Soul Scene
I've been watching episodes of the Sopranos on DVD recently and got to thinking about Ian Levine saying in one of his threads that Simon Soussan had been on the run from the mob. It got me wondering; has anyone any experience/stories of gangsters trying to 'muscle-in' on any soul nights, clubs or any activities connected to 'the scene' at any time? From films, TV and books there are lots of stories about this being a problem over the years for 'general' night club owners, buissness owners etc, but has it ever been a problem for the NS/soul scene? KTF. Drew.

Jackie Wilson
Jackie Wilson, Levi Stubbs, Sam Cooke, Chuck Jackson, Roy Hamilton all wonderful voices and singers. Who's best.........................................it's a bit like saying diamonds are better than gold!! Jackie is up there with all the other diamonds who, in my humble opinion, are just as golden as each other!!!! That's how I see it. I'll get me sickbag!!! KTF. Drew.

Ian Levine Productions And Songs
I am confused also. The thread was in All About Soul and I've always understood that to be for posts/discussions about soul music and the soul scene. Like or dislike the man or his music, surely if anybody has anything to say about soul and the soul scene over the years worth listening to it is Ian Levine. This thread fitted that bill in my opinion. Aren't threads supposed to 'branch out' with one topic leading to another, that's what discussions do! I have been reading this thread on and off over the last few days and enjoyed lots of the information and stories that Ian has to share. I'm not a big fan of a lot of his stuff but I respect his passion for what he does and his significant contribution to the scene over the years, (I have never met the man by the way). A few posts back someone countered the negative posts against Ian Levine by saying that they were simply trying to get the thread closed or have some negative impact on it. It seems that they have had their way!!!!! No one is forced to read it or contribute for foooks sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KTF. Drew.

No. It would add to an already oversaturated market and would soon loose appeal and numbers. KTF Drew.

Motown At 50 Top 30
Just listening to this on iplayer whist at work. Disappointing that some classics don't make the Top 30 but it's on sales I understand. Just goes to show that many of the Motown tunes loved on the Northern Soul/Soul scene were not best sellers, which is pretty much in line with everything else we love!!!!!! KTF. Drew.

The Flyer Of 2008 ?
Some belters on there Mike. Shows how talented and creative the folks on this scene are. Liked the early Taste of Honey ones from Chris Morgan with George Best and Dennis Law on. Always like any that have label scans on. But this has to be my fave. I could look (perv) at this gorgeous woman (SF) all foookin' day. KTF. Drew.

Eartha Kitt
I only know of Eartha Kitt from Saturday night light entertainment programes from the 60s and 70s and wouldn't necessarily have associated her with the soul scene. However, IMHO you are wrong to say that this artiste should not get a mention on here. The posted tunes above show that this lady had more in her locker than I thought she had. Get a grip Joker; there are plenty of hits on this scene with far less soul!!!!!!! All the best to you and yours. KTF. Drew.

Ns Taylor Made Records
I always thought the version with singing as a sort of chorus had the lyrics "my room is only is only 6x6", not cell! I always took it to be some sort of comment on ghetto living conditions but I'm probably miles off the mark. KTF. Drew.

Soul Sam. Has He Got Wings
Now this could be a mistaken double booking, misprint or whatever, but according to the Events List on here for this coming weekend (Sat 20th Dec 08), Soul Sam is booked at The Greatstone bash in Manchester and at a do called The Get Involved Xmas Party in London!!!!! Can't be two soul DJs using that name surely and neither do is a nighter. So Sam has either: - wings or; - his own plane/hellicopter; - become a god and can be in two places at the same time!!!! I realise that DJ's such as Sam often cover two or even three events in an evening but usually in the same geographical area surely. The Greatstone is 8pm to 2am and the London do is 8pm to 3am so I suppose over 7hrs it is possible to travel that distance if you were on at the very begining of one do and on at the end of the other but this would take some effort and would not make either spot an enjoyable experience I suspect. I've double checked the events postings and the dates are the same. So where is Sam playing this coming Sat? KTF. Drew.
