  1. The Dells.......I'd Rather Be With You Bumping this as I have a question about the lead singer(s) on this track. Anyone able to post a sound clip please. Anyway, I know nothing really about this groups members. On this track there are some excellent vocals by what appears (to my ears) to be two different singers; one with a very deep voice the other very high voice. Is it two vocalists or the same person? If it is the same singer then the guy has an amazing vocal range. A sound clip would help with my question (or if anyone is willing to PM me with an idiots guide to putting a CD into the computer and what to press to turn it into a Refosoul clip ). KTF. Drew.

Drink on me if we ever meet. Go to the top of the class that person. Thanks for playin'. KTF. Drew.

  4. 1 right there Kirsty. No dancing Kirsty just me boring the pants off the blokes i was with moaning about party DJ's having no imagination!!! I'm supposed to be writing reports for work this morning but this is far more fun. Arn't we just big kids at heart really. KTF. Drew.
  5. Joint second John. KTF. Drew.
  6. In the lead with 2 points at the moment Bridget I would be happy to hear My Weakness is You at any do. I don't count that as a wedding/party tune. KTF. Drew.
  7. One of those is correct MB. KTF. Drew.
  8. Sorry Kev not any of those but all four would normally be contenders. KTF. Drew.
  9. Last night I went for a pint and a game of snooker at my local social club. There was a 40th Birthday party on upstairs. I could hear what was being played as the snooker room is right underneath. When the DJ played what can be termed as the obligatory NS/Motown spot he played from what I think is a list of about maybe 10-15 at the most tunes that you will hear at such gatherings. So, a little quiz for those who like such things. This DJ played 9 NS/Motown records. What were they? A point for each one. I'll give the answers at around 3pm today before I go out to watch United in said same club. KTF. Drew.
  10. You're right ImberBoy. That lot really are uncool and bring the scene into disrepute with their 'divy' behaviour. What they really needed was some bloke there strutting his stuff wearing shorts, white socks and sandles! Now that would have given that night some credibility!!!!! Yes, I know you had only just arrived at the weekender and had got straight into it. Bless. KTF Drew.
  11. Funny, all I saw was people dancing to the music they/we like. People having a good time in a venue of their choosing. What is there to take the piss about!! There arn't half some 'soul snobs' on here sometimes. And before anyone asks, no I wasn't there. KTF. Drew.
  12. Cross-referencing what you say here Ian to my question abour FW being paid something for the sale of DILY. I now think that he should get nowt more than a pint off the seller!!! KTF. Drew.
  13. What was the actual condition of the KB copy as he bought it. Kenny plays it out and I think he played it a year or two ago at Bury Town Hall nighter when I was there. Had it been played out much or played privately a great deal before he got it? Was the record mint, mint minus, VG or what, before Kenny had FW write on it? KTF. Drew.
  14. If the two known copies are plain light stone coloured, why have I seen more than once, an image showing the section of the lable with SOUL having a purple shading to it????? Is this just someone playing around with the image as it were or have I imagined it!!!!? Maybe I've just had too much red wine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KTF. Drew.
  15. Quality!!!! KTF. Drew.
  16. He sang the song didn't he!!!! KTF. Drew.
  17. Bo**ocks Pd!! When was the last time you saw OXO advertised on a bus!! KTF. Drew.
  18. I'm loving reading the FW auction thread like most on here I guess. Can't help but get caught up in the building excitement. Fascinating posts showing loads of knowledge that makes my jaw drop with admiration sometimes. However, I didn't wish to hijack the thread with this question. I do not hold a strong view either way but in the past there have been strong views about artistes and royalties by many on here. So here goes: Should Mr Wilson (who is still with us is he not) receive anything fiancially for the sale of the record, especially if it does reach a stratospheric price? Should he receive anything at all? Did he receive anything the last time a copy sold for a lot of money? It's possible this record could make some serious money so I'm curious as to what people think when some have argued, maybe quite rightfully, about artistes not being forgotten financially when their work is being sold. What's your view? KTF. Drew.
  19. Thanks MB. C'mon folks, someone must know more and have a clip of this Foookin' Aawsome tune. KTF. Drew.
  20. I just can't stop playing this since I got a free CD that it's on at A Taste Of Honey last week. Many thanks Chris and Carlos, some nice tunes on the disc that are new to me. What I can't decide is if Some Kinda Wonderful is new to me. The tune by the Del-Royals is new to me, if you know what I mean. Has this song been done by someone else before The Del-Royals or been a bigger hit for someonelse? It's very Motownish to my ears and I keep thinking David Ruffin or the Temptations but can't find anything. Is it a Motown record? The only song with this title in refosoul is by The Soul Brothers Six and is a completely different song which I have heard before. I've googled SKW and The Soul Brothers Six record comes up along with records that are not soul but have used this title. The title/phase SKW has been used in other soul records I'm sure but I can't fathom if I've heard this tune years ago. Please would some kind person post a sound clip if possible (maybe Capt Morgan would kindly do it) as this tune is (using my favourite Phrase for great tunes) FOOOKIN' AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The arrangement on this is breathtaking IMHO. I love the piano in the breaks and the horn near the end. The vocals are superb. Soundclip please someone. KTF Drew.
  21. Just spent the last hour re reading the whole thread after I realised it had been reactivated. Just as good reading as it was when the thread was new last year!!!!! Mr Levine, you must have some great stories about Simon Soussan so get cracking? KTF. Drew.
  22. Sorry mate not me. KTF. Drew.
  23. I thought this might be hard work. Should really be getting on with my work but I'm bored!!!!! KTF. Drew.
  24. I've been watching episodes of the Sopranos on DVD recently and got to thinking about Ian Levine saying in one of his threads that Simon Soussan had been on the run from the mob. It got me wondering; has anyone any experience/stories of gangsters trying to 'muscle-in' on any soul nights, clubs or any activities connected to 'the scene' at any time? From films, TV and books there are lots of stories about this being a problem over the years for 'general' night club owners, buissness owners etc, but has it ever been a problem for the NS/soul scene? KTF. Drew.
  25. Jackie Wilson, Levi Stubbs, Sam Cooke, Chuck Jackson, Roy Hamilton all wonderful voices and singers. Who's best.........................................it's a bit like saying diamonds are better than gold!! Jackie is up there with all the other diamonds who, in my humble opinion, are just as golden as each other!!!! That's how I see it. I'll get me sickbag!!! KTF. Drew.
