  1. I'm pleased with my 'uneducated' ears Simon. Any history re group/artise that you know? KTF. Drew.
  2. ......played a song by The Vows. I think it was Tell Me (see my last played). The lead singer sounds a bit like Morris Chestnut (Too Darn Soulful) to me. Is it? KTF. Drew.
  3. Doh!!!! Posted in a rush and got me surnames wrong!!!! Shelia Ferguson is who I meant (thanks Barry). Come on the folks who did that wonderful flyer (Sheils Ferguson- pink dress) post one more time!!!! KTF. Drew.
  4. Sheila Anderson. Now were is that flyer of her in that pink dress!!!!!!! KTF. Drew.
  5. The music of Sam Cooke was probably there at the start of most of us getting into soul music I suspect. Awesome voice!!! Does anyone know one of his called That's It? Cracking tune with a real latin feel. If anyone is able to post it up it would be much appreciated. KTF. Drew.
  6. [ I think this thread is as much about the weak editorial at Manifesto Magazine as it is with the bum licking sycophantic Levine endorsed reviews of the HiNRG tribute CDs.
  7. It might just be me being thick but I can't work out exactly what your point is and what soul you wish to listen to!!!! Oh well, better get me self off here and off to Bury!!! KTF. Drew.
  8. I suppose Jimi Hendrix had the way paved for him by those already mentioned but was he not a 'way paver' himself in that he become massive and acceptable in a style of music that was 'white orientated'. Personlly I can't stand that type of music, never could, but I suspect he deserves a mention in this thread. KTF. Drew.
  9. Thanks guys. I'd settle for an RnB type club/bar in Edinburgh. Any ideas? KTF. Drew.
  10. I'm having to do a meeting in Scotland soon and likey to have to stay over in Edinburgh on Friday 7th Aug 09. Any soul do's happening in or around Edinburgh on that night anyone? KTF. Drew.
  11. I really enjoyed that Pete. Lots new to my ears and some excellent tunes. Helped make the report writing I've just been doing bearable. Thanks. KTF. Drew.
  12. Very underated soul group who should definately be heard out and about more IMHO. Everything Is Tuesday and Give Me Just A Little More Time for me. KTF. Drew.
  13. That's bleedin' awful!!!!!! KTF. Drew.
  14. Thought long and hard about this as I suspect most have but finally decided on Bettye Swann......... Make me Yours. It's got everything and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up each time I hear it!!!!! KTF. Drew.
  15. Always thought that the line "girl you've got the best of me, please come take the rest of me" was a cracker from Chairman of the Board's You Got Me Dangling On A Sting. Also, "when you walk in a room right away I start to swoon, I'm not sure what you got but what it is I like a lot". I Got A Feeling by Barbara Randolf. KTF. Drew.
  16. I have an LP in the garage from when I was 12/13yrs old. It's called Otis Blue (Otis Reading) and I bought it in a clothes shop (for certainly under £1) following my mother buying me my first Crombie circa 1972/3. One track, the second, My Girl, is scratched from memory, as my older sister had a kid when she was only 15yrs old and her little lad (now 30 odd years old) as a toddler used to wait for me at our gate everyday after school. This paricular day I remember passing our house and being on an old backloader bus and seeing this cherrub, waiting for me at the gate, but banging my Otis LP on the gate in anticipation of my return!! Worth fook all without one track being scratched I suspect!!!! KTF. Drew.
  17. No you're not John. Having just listened, first thing I thought was SW . Second time in a few days I've posted about SW!!! KTF. Drew
  18. Last summer I went into a charity shop on the High Street near work during my lunch hour. I was looking at paperbacks but noticed a box of LP's so had a rumage. Usual stuff; Max Bygraves, Scottish Pipe Bands etc but I found a Songs In The Key Of Life Double Album by Stevie Wonder. The cover was in extremely good nick, no damage as it was protected by a plastic cover. The vinyl was pristine on both records, almost new (mint?) to my uneducated eyes. It was only 50p!!! I didn't get it as I don't collect records and it isn't a period of Stevie Wonder's music that grips me and I wouldn't have had the ability to play it anyway so I left it. I don't do ebay so had no thought of selling it, even for a couple of quid profit. However, a week or so later I thought that I would get it and offer it on here for the cost I paid and postage, as someone might like it, for a collection, playing, whatever. Anyway I went back and it was gone. Is it worth anything? The album was from 1976 so it is 33yrs old and it was like new! KTF. Drew.
  19. Key To My Happiness.....The Charades. Never understood why many think this is great!!!! I'll be goin' now!!!! KTF. Drew.
  20. This singer is new to me. When I checked Refosoul I inadverently typed Joe Battan instead of Joe Bataan and it came up with a tune called Crystal Blue Persuasion which I quite liked. I realised what I had done and corrected the spelling and found most of the above mentioned tunes......Too Much Lovin' being the one I liked most. Are the two singers the same person? I've listend to Crystal Blue again and it sounds like the same singer to my uneducated ears!!! KTF. Drew.
  21. I'm not. You're the one who has bumped it!!!!! KTF. Drew.
  22. So She'll Come Running Back is the only known record to have the yellow and blue stripes FIP label then? KTF. Drew.
  23. Cheers boba. Anyone got a scan of the red one or any others on this label? KTF. Crew.
  24. Just read Dave Moore's thread in Events Lookback about Mel Britt. I'm a bit confused........where and when was this gathering with Mel Britt present? Anyway, reading about Mel Britt on Dave's thread got me thinking. One of the nicest looking labels (IMHO) is the yellow and blue FIP label of Mel Britt's She'll Come Running Back. That song is the only record I've ever seen on this label. Are there other NS/soul tunes on this label? KTF. Drew.
  25. Thanks Paul. Can you post a sound clip? It's a cracking tune!!! Without doubt I still love me northern dancers/classics but I find myself getting into the lesser played and often slower, more soulful 60s and 70s stuff as I get older, (see my last played clip The Tymes/George Williams.....foookin' quality put on here by Johnm) . KTF. Drew.
