    Yes I agree the returnees have obviously been around before, it’s the ones that have been absent for 30years ,plus in some cases but bullshit people who don’t know them that they’ve never left and loathe to admit it , I’ve actually no problem that they left the scene , makes no difference to me and the ones that are open about it , no problem, just can’t understand the liars. As they say “the truth will out”

    No anecdotes for you (as yet) only just read your post , when you say the ‘new lot’ do you mean new blood or the returnees / born agains who stayed away for 25-30 years telling folks they’ve never been away , personally it’s put me off over the last few years, and I don’t bother going anywhere,and I’m sure I’m not the only one ! I’ve only just joined this site and I’m not too sure why ??? Lol

    Reminds me of a tale of a dj who was playing aLeroy Hutson track and was asked about an album track request , “he’s done an album has he , didn’t know that “ was the reply , anyway he was left to do his spot educating the crowd , bless him . By the way this was recent !!

    Ann Sexton at the Wilton, Bobby Patterson at Cala gran fleetwood , ditto Prince Philip Mitchell, Charles walker( little Charles) at a r ‘n’b event I attended .Also what about Edwin Starr , he never let you down and gave his all on stage , and hung around among the crowds afterwards.

    I know Edwin Starr was 5th May 79 , I’ve a photo or two with the date written on , bloody hated having to look after the camera , never took a camera again, alas !

    Did all the aforementioned artists perform at the all nighters ? I take it the original poster is asking this . I heard Betty Wright was one of the best , wouldn’t know myself was too young , just saw Edwin , shit hot , he’d just hit pay dirt with ‘ contact ‘ and was just releasing “happy radio” that intro when he was revving up on stage ! Might be a bit poppie but gives me a tingle anyway!!

    Always find Ely paperboy reeds shows stimulating, and of course Steve g on solar , also derek p on Bradford radio,and ‘spectrum of soul’ on drystone radio with Dave longbottom for crossover , deep with a beat etc . Amongst others....
