  1. Of course sound quality is important, but you can play reissues etc and still have sound quality and ntegrity. It's all about honesty. Can’t remember who said it , some famous dude no doubt, but the quote was “ keep saying it enough , the truth will become the lie”
  2. Yes , all about honesty too , as per Mona Lisa , it wasn’t about the visual aspect, lol, just as Russ was saying about the Terracotta Army , it’s the principle.
  3. What about the sound quality and integrity. Never mind eh
  4. I thought this was common knowledge as it’s in his biographies, goalkeeper wasn’t he ? Stand to be corrected. But it does seem bizarre , but it is true.
  5. Was Just discussing yesterday with someone about the Mona Lisa , going to the Louvre and then being told it’s a fake , how would you feel? Or how would you feel if it was advertised, “ come see the fake Mona Lisa “ I wonder what the ticket sales figures would be .
  6. Agree That’s what I was saying/trying to say in my previous post ,
  7. I agree chalky , just saying for your soul nights , and just trying to get the point across that not all have spent fortunes.
  8. Let’s also not forget that quite a lot of collector/djs haven’t spent a fortune and actually paid peanuts for a lot of their records after staying on the scene, I’m talking about from say 1980 onwards , or just collecting when the scene went through it’s quieter days , so let’s get this notion that when you hear an expensive record played that the dj has paid a fortune , I remember paying £20 for the Parisian s , so I suppose if someone heard me playing it theyll presume I’ve paid silly money for it ! Parliament heart trouble was a mere 50p , lots of people will have had the same experience, wade flemons 5r , some guys will have paid less than that no doubt. Yes the popular sounds back then were booted because of demand etc but you wouldn’t have got say, a wade flemons on a boot would you , so what I’m saying is there were plenty of quality sounds not booted that were cheaper and better than some of the booted titles , in song and sound quality ! And if some people didn’t buy these records back then that’s just tough and that ship sailed by .
  9. It’s the fanatism for the top 500 that keeps me away from the oldies events.
  10. If the above is aimed at me I’m certainly not bitter and salty about it, I just don’t go anymore to northern nights , and at this moment still no desire to . Why is it considered to be bitter and salty ? , I’ve another hobby and going to events hasn’t got the pull that it had on me , however I do go to see live acts and get a buzz out of it , sorry, that’s just me .
  11. I can almost feel the release of your angst just reading that
  12. Couldn’t agree more , stopped going to northern nights a few year ago , love the music , but not a fan of the ‘scene’anymore. You don’t need to attend , some of the most knowledgeable guys with tremendous collections I know hardly ever went anywhere, in their younger days, yes, but for many years,no , and they didn’t acquire their collections while attending events etc , they carried on collecting without being on the scene.
  13. B side -Heartbreak - killer deep with a beat too !
  14. My favoured side by a long chalk
  15. Ha ha joey , your maybe like an unlucky chap I know, went to a football match ( can’t remember which ) there were four goals and he missed everyone, going for a pie , 1st goal, toilet visit 2nd goal , lighting a cig 3rd , 4th toilet again
  16. You’ve not heard ‘shoes ‘ played out since 73! It certainly was at venues 80s-90s and later that I attended, Blackburn, Bradford normanton Manchester etc
  17. Once saw one grab a starling by its wing and swing it round and literally battered it to death on the roof tiles of the house we were working on , then it ate it, feathers an all ! . Hate the buggers, I see them looking for small birds ,nests , reducing the population of the blackbirds etc , I suppose this is to be expected since all birds became protected. Great pic by the way
  18. I think you’re right , there’s nothing unique about being up all night anymore. You could even watch Corrie all night now !
  19. Had a beautiful stag walk right towards me last weekend, alas no camera/phone on me , which I ‘always’ have with me , doh. Great pic , you must have been stealth like!
  20. But joey , and it’s a big one imo, most of the guys playing boots don’t have the originals at home and probably never will.
  21. I don’t think it affects the danceability pal , just more where they are spun imo that’s all imo
  22. Yes , ‘ back in the day’ but like some have said , that was then , but as said by others from the mid 80s whatever there was a unsaid ethos on ovo .that is certainly true , I reckon the ovo adverts started appearing in recent times because of carvers etc appearing due to the scene growing and the guys advertising ovo are more than likely Guy’s who’ve never been away . Regards to the disgruntled punter the dj was alluding to him and others that he was playing ovo , but the point is why don’t they advertise that they’ll be playing boots . Now 5 inch stilettos ooooh........
  23. I don’t think he was a tosser joey , after all it is his perogative which is what bbaml was asking for. The punters point was he’d paid his entrance fee and was disappointed with the dj , I mean I get it I wouldn’t like it, my peroagative . Now if they advertised they would be playing boots/carvers maybe then we could make the choice, but you’ll see adverts saying o v o but you don’t see them advertising boots to be played , hmmm wonder why ....... anyway I thought we were drifting onto ladies shoes......lol
  24. I know of one place a “dj” played a full set on carver lookalikes , one punter was utterly disgusted when he thought he’d been bopping away to original vinyl, he actually said “I wouldn’t have stepped on the floor the cheating, cee u next Tuesday ‘ .
  25. Got to agree with you on this, I just think playing boots is the start of a slippery slope / thin end of wedge kind of thing . Also although record prices are at an all time high surely this proves to a degree that a lot of guys do have ov , and are probably buying to dj with, as there seems to be plenty of supply of folks/fools ready to part with their cash !
