  1. R.I.P ,Dave ,thanks for your efforts in bringing live acts to the Wilton , sad news .
  2. If I remember correctly the boot was a light blue with black iffy text
  3. Positively 100%
  4. I’ve always thought he’s a guy of limited knowledge of the music, more into mainstream at best , just a guy who’s landed a plum job with the beeb .
  5. Get your coat and hat
  6. I wonder if there’s any footage of the voices from east Harlem at the Isle of Wight . Watched a documentary recently and they’re are there on a poster in the background.
  7. I recently watched the Sam Cooke documentary, excellent stuff ! Ive got say though of all the soul records I know etc , one that I’ve thought about that is one of thee most soulful imo has always been staring right in our faces is ‘Cupid’ by Sam , the power he delivers on the word ‘ cry’ is incredible, yet so not in your face ! I know it will be considered mainstream by many but still........
  8. Should this therefore not come under the ‘ current state ‘ thread lol
  9. Dave, I think I can safely pat myself on the back in the knowledge that I’ve not attended anywhere ( well in the last 30years at least )where it’s been played, unless I had been to the toilet and missed it , but no ,my mates knew better and would have reported it!
  10. Please tell us where , to avoid going there.......
  11. Never really cared about the song too much that is until I was holidaying down south , sat on the beach at Bournemouth on a scorching sunny day 1981 , surrounded by tories and tourists and a girl walked past with a ghetto blaster and the song came on , plenty of tut tuts about the volume lol , I almost shouted ‘ turn it up lass , “f#*k em”lol
  12. Someone had a sam dees for 500 only a couple of days ago , or I was dreaming , I wasn’t dreaming sold 500 vg+ on Monday, on here , so the mind boggles
  13. And also not forgetting the pub goers who’ve decided since the pub trade died off they’ll go northern soul nights and get pissed there instead !
  14. I think the same on making a film about it too.
  15. One big YAWN.
  16. Agree there , a couple of dudes who I know and went to the earlier legendary clubs told me how much it had changed from the days of yore , and although it had ( changed ) they accepted it , after all they were original mods who were up for changing and bucking the trend , I never heard them say that their scene died , and one of them used to come to all-nighters with us up until 83/4 .
  17. Amen , my thoughts exactly chalky .
  18. Ok joey , we’ll agree to disagree, even though I’m right lol , the big picture is it doesn’t really matter does it , by the way I just used searling as an example as you say he did turn it around , I though have never put any of them on a pedestal. That’s another subject.
  19. I know a guy who I’d play him or do him a cassette/cd whatever , the records would be maybe 10-15 at that time ( 90s) , then say maybe 12-18 month later and you were at a do and one of the sounds were played and the price had bollocked up to £75 or so , then he’d go and buy one , but not when it were a tenner , oh no , it were when he saw folk dancing to it. The mind boggles, I always bought what I like no other reason !
  20. I don’t need a lecture off anyone to tell me it died in 76 , that’s just your opinion and that’s that , it might have changed when totps etc came along , but no it didn’t die , imo and others , one minute people are saying ‘longest living youth subculture next some say it died in 76 , yes the divs turned up and fucked off and mr searlling and others turned the ship around and guess what, they started playing more soulful music again. What I will say though is that it’s no coincidence the demise of the British pub on a weekend and the return of people who used to get pissed up on a Saturday etc that now go to northern soul events, I know some that shunned some events on their doorstep, said they’d never bother with the scene again and they’d ‘ moved on ‘ , they’re now djing albeit local( ish ) events, after 20-25 year sabbatical, suppose that could come under the ‘state of ‘ thread . But going back to it dying in 76 I’m just not with you on that , changed yes , but if you’d stuck around you might see it from my perspective, and yes I could go blue in my face arguing my point, but I won’t .
  21. Still , it didn’t die !
  22. Northern scene died in 76! , might have done for you in your eyes, just because you left it didn’t ‘die’ .
  23. Re the 300 , of course, why would you press just 300 and like you say 500 wouldn’t cost much more. I really can only be cynical about the 150 asking price.
  24. Stuff like this puts me tight off , maybe it should be put in the “current state of the scene” thread , hearing shite like this is why I don’t go anymore , that and listening to folk who had a 20-30 year “break” now djing telling us how it is , over and out .
