  1. On the stage, Russ slapped 'em on, Richard gave the spiel. Explains the routes our heros have taken since?
  2. Anyone who went, those who were too young to go and even those who just wonder what northern soul at the Casino was all about, should dash down to the centre of Wigan as soon as they can. To celebrate 50 years since the first night Wigan Council have come up with the goods with their last nite photo exhibition outdoors, music exhibition at the museum of life (where badges, patches, Ts and the last nite book can be purchased) and (for me) the amazing full-size recreation of the Casino in a disused store at the entrance to the Grand shopping centre at the top of Standishgate. This, for me, was like stepping back in time. Mysterious, dark and a big floor punctuated by larger than life photos of well-dressed soul dudes. There's a stripped down juke box full of our northern 7" vinyl (listed for choice by scenario rather than the actual record. So you guess and enjoy.) There's films too, dancers and you-tubey ones. It's ony 100yds from the original building so it's aptly placed. Loved my day out. I sing it's praises and I will be going back. It's on for a month and I do believe Russ (W) has a couple of gigs organised for end of October. Make a date.
  3. Brilliant thanks. Love his records. I feel like I know him now. Cool dude. Great story.
Mick and Alan from No Grief fm and dancefloor legend Ped (aka Johnny two shirts) travelled from Chorley on Friday and we were blown away! The venue, the djs & tunes, the floor, the people and the mild beer! It was like the 70s. We will certainly be there on the 1st September. Can't wait.
  4. Imagine all the northern instrumentals done live in the RAH. ❤ Gotta have a talcy dancefloor out front...welcome to all.
  5. My guess...He would write every day, some commissions - others his own stuff, and when he needed to produce his commissions he would sort the studio and could do some of his own stuff to store trade to sell as well at the same time. Btw have you noticed... the theme to NYPD blue TV series... mike's used the bridge from afternoon on the rhino. : ) Btw 2...My copy on Soulbeat is ON ...Warner Bros release is OF...the rhino. My guess...Warner bros checked.
  6. Is that you Neil in the photo with the northern single in your hand?
  7. Soul keeps club doors open (to date) ..he praps (shrewdly) wants a piece of it? He needed to watch a few northern dancers for his video. No northern moves. (No moves at all.) Not improved on Dancin in the dark video which was dire.
  8. See you all Friday. I believe Mick n Alan are double decking later after their Northern Soul radio show on "no grief fm" 6.30 - 8pm listen via Radioline app. Summer's here and Stubby's buzzin'.
  9. Great video. Dancing anywhere and everywhere. Hair's a lot shorter and pants a lot narrower than 70s. ; ) Thanks
  10. Enjoyable read. He just had that certain something. Took me back to me teens Cheers.
  11. My fellow dj has been busy.. ; ) kind
  12. Also, some venues may not reopen. A lot were struggling beforehand.

  20. Money. The root. Where will it all end? Talking of money, 1973 l was articled on £4 a week (inc. Saturday mornings) and still managed to buy my first, sweet smelling , import from Malcs in Chorley for 65p. That's the tune. Little adv sticker. Just an insight which prob rings true with others still here on planet soul. Ktf
  21. Agreed. Nicely observed and written. Cracking up was memorable on the night, just like Goodbye nothin to say was the year before at the first anniversary. Thanks for the memories.
  22. I love dancing to instrumentals, though, my imagination takes over.
