  1. Here's some bits. Should be good later. Some original oldies from Leonard I guess.
  2. A record played at home usually sounds unrecognisable from the same monster sound at a do. That's a major reason to go to a do. Clapping togetherness too. Where's the scene going? Up and down as previously l guess. A gap to refresh your saturated listening buds. There'll always be the dancing. At Wigan we all faced the stage and could see the cool moves of others in front and ,over time, put these moves into your own dancing. There was no beer at Wigan. I guess clubs need the cash from the £3.90 a pint but that might be a factor to consider when people choose to leave their nests? Fingers crossed there are enough clubs survive to put on a do in the future. I'm off to a do 2nite at Worsley Mesnes where Russ is on verses the young-uns. Sounds fun. Ktf
  3. It isn't easy to prize folk out of their post-covid comfy couches these days. Good luck though. From my mate's observation at the Royal Albert many of the crowd where new to northern. Fingers crossed.
  4. I've not seen it on lp. My mate's got it on 7". I believe there was a prob with boots a few years ago? On tv about it?
  5. Great night. Derek n Froggy's shared birthday... awesome cake Phil Threlfall spot right up my street. Ktf Alan M
  6. A warm welcome at this friendly venue that's the next best thing to Wigan Casino and Mr Ms. Ktf.
  7. Eccentric northern soul. US new compilation. Had a quick listen and it's sound. My guess there's an interesting story about its creation?
  8. Great venue. Can't wait.
  9. I'm sure he sang it at the 1st anniversary niter '74.
  10. On the stage, Russ slapped 'em on, Richard gave the spiel. Explains the routes our heros have taken since?
  11. Anyone who went, those who were too young to go and even those who just wonder what northern soul at the Casino was all about, should dash down to the centre of Wigan as soon as they can. To celebrate 50 years since the first night Wigan Council have come up with the goods with their last nite photo exhibition outdoors, music exhibition at the museum of life (where badges, patches, Ts and the last nite book can be purchased) and (for me) the amazing full-size recreation of the Casino in a disused store at the entrance to the Grand shopping centre at the top of Standishgate. This, for me, was like stepping back in time. Mysterious, dark and a big floor punctuated by larger than life photos of well-dressed soul dudes. There's a stripped down juke box full of our northern 7" vinyl (listed for choice by scenario rather than the actual record. So you guess and enjoy.) There's films too, dancers and you-tubey ones. It's ony 100yds from the original building so it's aptly placed. Loved my day out. I sing it's praises and I will be going back. It's on for a month and I do believe Russ (W) has a couple of gigs organised for end of October. Make a date.
  12. Brilliant thanks. Love his records. I feel like I know him now. Cool dude. Great story.
Mick and Alan from No Grief fm and dancefloor legend Ped (aka Johnny two shirts) travelled from Chorley on Friday and we were blown away! The venue, the djs & tunes, the floor, the people and the mild beer! It was like the 70s. We will certainly be there on the 1st September. Can't wait.
