  5. WOW!!!! Now that really did bring a lump to my throat & a tear to my eye, it also made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end & sent a tingle through my entire body, because that reminded me why I fell in love with soul music in the first place & why I'm still so passionate about it now. Temptations probably always had the edge for me, mainly because "Beauty's only skin deep" is in my top 5 & David Ruffin was magical. Your Old Soulie, Spot.
  6. This is a reactivated oldie thats been doing the rounds again.I've heard it at loads of venues over the last 12 months. Not a classic, just ok in my opinion. Spot.
  7. "It's an uphill climb to the bottom", Okeh ?? Spot.
  8. Yorkshire isn't just a county, it's nearly a country, it's that BIG. To us Yorkies it's God's country. By the way Mr P. Dog, Humberside no longer exsists (only the post office think it does) but then for us it never, ever did. Bazza your right about Soul darn sarrf m8 .Also can't vote, no Yorkshire & I'm not from the North East, although I love the place & have many friends there, phew nearly dropped me sen in the sh**e there. Yorkshires answer to Mr Blobby, Spot.
  9. Sorry I thought you said Modern Soul not Old modern soul?? Michael Procter - Love don't live. Luther - Shine. Sorry is that to MODERN? Spot.
  10. Just a couple of points; As Chalky says, go overseas & the music is true "across the board", they don't know any different & just play music they like, it's so refreshing. Also I've only been to 1 truly "across the board" venue here & that was Steve Woombles Cleethorpes alldayer, which was advertised as "60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2k to present day", for me it was brill but within 3-4 hours Oldies brigade were moaning, the usual "Bloody Modern Sh**e" & leaving even though it was a couple of hours out of 10 or 12. Finally does anyone on SS know how to spell "Condescending" correctly?? Take note, as it appears not. Just a snippet, Spot.
  11. Where do I think our scene is going?? TO HELL & BACK, IN A HAND CART !!! That's what me Nan would have said, God rest her soul. Spot.
  12. This thread is starting to make my head spin & ache, even though there are some good points & opinions. I love this scene (ALL OF IT) & coming back to it has brought myself & my wife back to life. We only wish we could support all the venues round about but we can't, so choices have to be made; Bury clashes with Brighouse, Earl of Doncaster clashes with Hull soul club etc, etc, so we try & visit alternate months. We love Lifeline & would be gutted if Andy & Mick stopped the nighters & we also love Burnley which appears to clash with Lifeline. Middleton seems to be full always, why? I don't know but it could be because it's bi-monthly. As for Oldies venues, well I've seen people leave Drax soul night because it's "To Modern" & people moaning & groaning when Neil Jones played Empress & played "Exportations" & "Little Major Williams". So one persons Oldie is another one Modern, this arguement will rage on for ever (5 pages is enough, me thinks) & nobodies got any answers anyway. So we'll just go where we want & dance our arses off & just enjoy. Just a thought, Spot.
  13. Dropped something off at local " Connexions" careers office & heard the strains of, Dean Parrish - I'm on my way. So I was on my way, Spot.
  14. Dave, I'm unsure if it is a word but if not, it should be & you must admit it bloody well sounds good & you immediately knew what I meant. Spot.
  15. 3. Signed photos of John Vincent & Russ Winstanley - Here is offending item in full...'Tickets for ths one are £10 or the VIP ticket which includes Champagne, pizzas, pastas and salad bar in the VIP lounge, then we are having autographed photos with Dean , Russ and John, these tickets are £30' Shane do you mind not posting such offensive snippets please, I like to read SS without that feeling of rising bile in my throat. Bet there's not many £30 ticket takers?? I'd sooner eat my own arm!!! Should this happen again I'm afraid you shall be barred from Edinborough Street & The Brassa Club, Goole, sorry mate. Vomitously yours, Spot.
  16. Defo Mecca first Malc, I remember it being played there as new release & I think it was Mr Levine's play but I'm sure both ended up playing it because I seem to remember Mr Levine had a short attention span for titles, once he'd broke it & made it big it was onto the next. Remember him playing Sidney Barnes - "I hurt on the other side" & asking him to play when we went 2 weeks later, his reply was "I'll play it when I'm ready", "when will that be" say's I? "At least 6 more weeks" say he!! Always an agreeable chap our Ian!! Anyway it went on to become MASSIVE at Cleethorpes, still an excellent tune that should get more plays. Also talking of good new releases I was reading through some Blues & Souls from 1974 & in each copy there must be 2 or 3 new releases that are big money now & at the time they were 85p each, including Ultimates, Ace spectrum(I know it's not big money, but you get the idea). O happy days, if only we'd have known. Take care, Spot.
  17. leaving conversations mid sentence to dance then back to finish off n apologise to whoever you talking to Karen
  18. Saw a version of this by; 6 Pak on e-bay I think it did £600 or $'s, had never seen 1 before & on an obscure label if I'm not mistaken.
  19. Hey I know you don't often see it for sale but has anyone got a nice clean copy of; Harry Deal & the Galaxies - I still love you - Eclipse. Cheers, Spot.
  20. DOG DIDN'T SEEM TO IMPRESSED, IT SOON SHOT OFF! JUST LIKE I DO WHEN I HEAR THAT RECORD!!LOL
  21. Just had a look at it on You Tube and to be honest I could only stand to watch 3 minutes tops, the artists looked good & as previously said I hope they make a couple of quid for their efforts but every song sounded as if it had the same backing track. I use to have a lot of respect for Mr Levine (sure its his) & I give him 10 out of 10 for persistance but it's not for me & I'm sure I'm not alone on this, time for him to return to boy bands me thinks? I'd sooner listen to played out oldies than this stuff. Soulfully Yours, Spot.

  23. Bazza, In total agreement mate, cos that's what I do. Don't forget Dj Genisis, Joseph Webster, Joe Jama & Margaret Little use to clear the floor just about. at certain venues we attended, with enlightened "Punters" saying, "Get this modern sh*te off, play some 60's", how fickle they are!! A guy did this to our Gaz when he was doing a 70's spot & after our Gaz button holed him in the corridor & asked him to repeat himself now they were face to face, needless to say he thought better of it & apologised. The same guy asked my mate who was Djing on Saturday to play "Williams & Watson", ok my mate said, when the guy had gone I said "Thats him who gave Gaz some verbal", Oh is it now, then fcuk his request. So remember be nice to the Dj & they'll be nice to you. Bazza enjoyed your company saturday & great to see your lass on TOP FORM m8. Spot.
  24. I KNOW IT'S A PIPE DREAM (BUT I'VE GOT LUCKY BEFORE) HAS ANYONE GOT AN MP3 OF PARLIAMENTS-MY RAINY DAY-KABELL. HERE'S PRAYING, SPOT.
