  1. Chalky I think you've picked this up from another thread where people are asking, why £15 for saturday, coveniently forgetting that this includes all sessions during the day & night.Well I for one would willingly pay it (And I'm on a set pension income) but have taken the option of buying a weekend ticket for my gang, even though we most likely won't make all fridays sessions or sundays, 'em wonder if I can get a refund of £2 or so for sessions I miss??? We really shouldn't be debating this, if people are unhappy with the door price then don't bother coming but when theres nowhere to go because promotors can't afford to put venues on, or can't be bothered to listen to people bleating on about some crap, then they'll have no one to blame or moan at but themself's. Here endeth the lesson, Spot. ps. See you all at Skeggy.
  2. Frank, I've just read you question at the start of the thread, I know cd's weren't around in the early 70's but I can just imagine your retort should anyone have got behind the decks and said, "Ian, I'm gonna play this tape cos I think I'm damaging my vinyl playing it out". Now picture yourself !!!!! Just a thought, Spot.
  3. I've tried to subscribe on more than one occasion, ringing numerous times & leaving messages as requested but never once received a call back, finally given up & just buy as & when I can at venues, however if anyone has a reliable supplier who I can use let me know with a pm, cheers. Such a good mag but such poor customer service, Spot.

What a lovely lady, I could marry her.
  6. Here's my two'penneth worth then . If you went to Cleethorpes Pier & Wintergardens you found that unknowingly your ears became atuned to a slightly more edgy, funky beat because they were some of the tunes of the moment, like Rimshots, Skullsnaps, Crow & Lou Pride which we're massive & still excellent now. I get a little confused when people say that Joseph Webster, Ellipsis, Mixed Feelings etc are Funk, because that same as saying everything after 31st December 1969 is Modern!! Funk to me (IMHO) is stuff like Bootsy Collins, Funkadelic, Parliaments. As long as the beats nice & danceable & it fills the floor does it really matter. Another observation whilst I'm spouting off, I don't like (most) R&B or Modern two step but will sit it out or chat & have a drink while those who do enjoy it do their stuff but at 95% of supposed "Across the Board" venues (don't exsist, it's a fallacy, alway biase.) the Oldies only crew become very vocal calling for "60's" & when not geting their way leaving in childish strop's with bottom lips dragging on the floor, I experienced this at a Cleethorpes Alldayer & a local venue & even heard from a very reliable source that this type of merry band even managed to stop Soul Sam playing saturday night at Blackpool & I was there when some bright spark last year asked Butch,"When are you gonna play some Northern??" as he spun Little Major Williams!!!!! I knew there was a reason we didn't go. Sorry about that, no real point to it but made me feel a lot better. Take care & be safe, Spot.

"I don't believe it", not one picture showing a FULL dancefloor after I've just told the world how it was packed all night!!! They'll never believe another word I say, I'm finished!!!! Must have been taken in first hour, surely????
  13. I remember the one on the right but the left one, eh,eh, no, sorry. Spot.
  14. Apparently at the last Corner Pocket Soul night there was a bit of a "To do" just before it ended, which I've been reliably informed (eye witness) included; bleeding noses, persons flat out on floor, ladies engaged in right hook throwing & large amounts of loud verbals etc, followed by apologies all round for spoiling peoples evening, now you wouldn't get that bit in a night club or a boozer, would you. But to be fair it's very very rare & usually nipped in the bud as soon as it happens. So remember Sir Elton was wrong cos "Saturday nights allright for dancing" not fighting. Take care & be safe but remember bob & weave my son, Spot.
  15. Seen a look a like boot for £40, think it was on Pat Brady's but could be wrong, also remember seeing it go for £70 some where recently but my memory fails me. Spot.
  16. What a great dancer, have heard it played out odd times & when my neice, who's 10, is in the car I must play the first minute of it a dozen times, as she loves it, specially the "Dudu, dudu,du dudu" & "Chi,chim----panzees" bits, thinks it hilarious. Spot.
  17. Tony can't argue with you on that one but can think of a few extras I'd have liked to leave inside whilst they were demolishing it. Nikki Nakki Nukki, Spot. p.s. Whats the backing track from on "Such Misery", I know it & it's driving me made.
  18. Kev, First you upset J.T. after your kid did, now you've upset a further 80% of the scene!!! I knew there was a reason me & Gail liked you so much!! Be careful,it's a jungle out there, Spot. p.s. Rob & Karen have our support & we don't need to know what happened, they're just good people.
  19. Sorry folks but IMVHO the best thing P.J. ever did was split his trousers whilst performing & what a bag of Sh**e "People that's why" is compared to the Idle Few's version, sounds like Vic Reeve's pub singer & "Nikki Hoekky", well words fail me, 1500 at Torch can't be wrong, soz they can & all must have been totally off their heads. Just my opinion & remember, theres a place for dross, somewhere a place for dross, Spot.
  20. Bazza my old friend are you sure it the tune or the fact the bloody things about 7 minutes long & you could do yourself permanent damage dancing to the whole tune?? Tunes that do my head in are: Gloria Jones-Tainted Love, adored it when I first heard it but now everytime I hear the intro all I can envisage is that to**er Marc Almond of Soft Cell singing. Don Thomas-Come on train, absolute anthem at every venue in the 70's but you can get to much of a good thing & I'm afraid with this I have. Brothers-Are you ready for this, played out as much as Checkerboard Sq's-Double cookin but not as good a dancer, makes me head for the smoking zone & I don't smoke. Loads more I'm sure, just can't remember at present but I'm sure we'll be revisiting this subject numerous times. Take care & be safe, Spot. p.s. Bazza you at Empress saturday?? How was the cd's??
  21. Time for a comment me thinks, no I haven't already that was my wife Gail using my name in vein, although I did agree. Firstly on other folks comments, I agree fully with Chalky & J.T. the young up & coming need our support & encouragement. It's not a harsher world (more child murders in 50's & 60's than now) it's just that we are better informed & much more media aware. I agree with most of what Deb says, I don't agree with kids at nighters really (bit hypocritical really as we did it!) but I love to see them at alldayers enjoying themself's & take my niece (11) to Drax Alldayer on New Years day every year & she leaves at 9pm & at Johnny Redpants Charity dayer there were kids there having a ball & behaving, having said that we must remember that there are predators out there & be careful. Sorry but I don't agree with Barry, the scene to my mind is basically the same, the punters are just a lot more weathered & Why can't the passion be in the hearts of the younger generation, I fell in love with the genre at 14 & had the passion, remember it's not & never was our generations God given right to keep this music for ourself's only. Someone mentioned Laws & Rules, well they have been bent & broken since time immemorial & I'm sure this will carry on long after we are gone. I remember my wife Gail & her best friend sneaking into the Highland Rooms at Blackpool Mecca after thumbing it from Goole & they were the grand age of 14 at the time. It makes me wonder are we falling into our parents generation trap of, "Do what I say & not what I do". Are we more concerned because we remember what we were doing or not doing & how responsible little adults we were at that age, people worry about drugs but the scene was awash with them in the 70's & no doubt we all lost friends to them but these are our fears not the youths. So Pete, Alex, Rosie, Kelly & any other young enthusiasts keep on doing what your doing & don't listen to us Grumpy old farts, we're just jealous of your youth really cos ours has gone, long ago, by the way I'm sick of hearing about teens & youths (3 pages here) it's starting to make me feel even more ancient than I am already, so please desist, thank you. Take care & be safe, Spot.
