  3. Just a pet hate of mine, swearing in posts that is & I know most people only do it to emphasis a point but if this forum was a room full of people you didn't know or hardly knew, then would you walk in & start F'ing & B'ing?? On this one I apologise, thought you was aiming it at me & Monday morning paranoia obviously got the better of me .That's the problem with just the written word, your not sure if comments are general or specific & not seeing the whites of the persons eyes or the tone or inflective in the voice, then it can be taken wrong way, as I've obviously proved. Take care,be safe but most of all, be happy, Spot.
  4. Pete never put your name cos that made it look personal, and I didn't want that, see you have a different take on "Newie" to me, to me it means a more recent recording from 70's, 80's or even more recent & I'd call a new discovery, well a new discovery but I understand the new too my ears thing. See to me before the early 60's (with exceptions, obviously) the music is to R&R or R&B or God forbid Do-Wop in sound for my ears. The point I was trying to make (without resorting to profanities) was, that a lot of people like 70's/Crossover etc & tend not to moan when we get 2 or 3 hours of Oldies on the bounce but the Oldies contingent whine & moan when they get an hour of rarer or no so well known tunes. As for many people aren't interested in anything else (not quoted verbatim) surely that works both ways with other people only liking 70's etc?? And I don't think anyones trying to convert you to their music, cos I'm sure you only like what you like as I do. Finally you'll see from my post that I knew exactly what Pete G meant in his view a "Newie" was but I used it to make another point I considered relevant & I apologise if it confused the issue. Take care, be safe & remember N.Soul ain't just 60's, Spot.
  5. Trev, "Nail on the head" springs to mind, lets not forget that in reality 90% are Oldies (well once I was 40 I felt old)& there will be a massive amount of "Rare & Under played" tunes, cos in 1972 (when I first met you Steve at Leeds Central) & next few years there must have only been a few thousand tracks to hear & only a few venues to go to compared to today, so a wider spectrum today which give way to more chances of disagreeing. Can't believe someone said they like newies but only between 1958 & 1969, which to me is a contradiction in terms, I know they meant new finds but you get my drift. Also todays unknowns become tomorrows accepted sounds & underplayed Oldies become reactivated monsters. As you well know I don't like Doo wop & R&B or Modern two step but go away & chat or have a drink whilst it's being played, not whinge & whine while it on as other people appreciated & love it. This seems not to be the case with the Oldies only fans, who are very vocal & verciferous about it, recently at at top Oldies venue some more recent tunes came on & a large section of punters sat down & a lot (not all) started bleating about "Modern shite" etc & slagging the Dj but when a Dj then played; Dj Genisis,Joe Jama, Margaret Little, Joseph Webster etc most return to dancing quiet happy that Oldies where back on, Doh!! If you know what I mean?? I love Oldies as much as I love the newer rarer & underplayed stuff so I'm not that biased I hope, remember nobody forces you to go to a venue & if certain people go there then you know roughly the music policy & you can steer clear & leave the "Top 500" people to it. Well there's my small insights & gems on the subject or as some will say, "Load of Bo**ox's" he talks but hey, just an opinion. Take care, be safe & remember new experiences are good for the SOUL, Spot.

  8. I'd still sooner have Dusty's version, by far the best imho & what a looker, pity she "crossed over to the other side", as it were. Talking of rare issues I recently saw an Earl Jackson & Yum Yums issue , now theres a first & yes the nice man at Anglo Amer owns them now. Take care, be safe & todays friday, Yippeeee, Spot.
  9. Dawn, Don't know about the "mens toilet conversation" but yes there is another turned up & that's straight from the man who can or horses mouth, if you prefer. This is my rainy day, Spot.
  10. How about Dj Genisis - Tribute to Betty, 32 seconds before you hear her voice & what a lovely voice it is to.However the Dimitri of Paris mix only has a very short intro, groovy!! Take care, be safe & wait for the words, Spot.
  11. Think I just about managed to dance to, "Triumphs - Coming to your rescue", at Earl of Donny when Chris Dalton played it & yes it was hard!!!! But as Kirsty says "Towanda Barnes", now that is a killer, can't dance to it now, couldn't dance to it when I was 20 (couple of years ago!) & will never be able to dance to it while ever I've got a hole in my ar*e, unless I want a heart attack!! Take care, be safe & dance within your limits, Spot.
  12. Well people my turn, as you know I don't think gymnastics is dancing, for me it's all about foot work & dancing in time to the beat but having said that it's each to their own & as long as they don't interfere with my dancing, then thats ok by me. From what I can gather they had a great time doing it & thought it looked good & they looked good & cool in the video, so it was their 15 minutes of fame & if their happy, then thats all that really matters, isn't it?? Just let's not have it going down the Wigan 1975 path of "Northern Soul, it's the new cool fashion trend for the masses, get on board". Take care, be safe & keep it underground, Spot.
  13. Bank holiday weekends in Scarborough & mis-spent youth seem to go together, have loads of tales to tell & loads of battles were fought over the years but heres short but true tales; Five of us sleeping in an Escort type van because we had no digs or mates who could fit us in, so we're parked up in a small out of the way car park trying (operative word TRYING) to get some sleep & every 30 mins or so we can hear cars starting up & leaving the car park, this goes on from midnight till about 4.30am & we're wondering what the hells going on, till finally we've had enough & I get out to check what happening. A group of lads are hovering & looking very shifty, "What you lot up to, nicking a car?" says I, "Yes", came the reply, "You been at it all night?", "Yeah, why?",says them. "Well we can't get to sleep cos of you lot, so make that your last one, ok?". Which they duly did & we managed a few hours sleep before pubs opened again. Take care, be safe & remember, alway lock & alarm your car, Spot.
  14. Hey he even came to the sleepy hollow of Goole & played the Vikings, which for those who don't know was a medium size function room (200) of a pub, it was a hot bed of Soul with, Doris troy, Roy C, The Real Thing, Mac & Katie Kassoon, Limmie & Family Cooking & more all playing there & Top Northern Dj's like; Rick Todd. Dick Jervis, Frank Dewhirst etc spinning top tunes. Anyway Major tore the roof off the place & is our claim to fame in our sleepy little Yorkshire back water town. Take care, be safe, "It's the beat", Spot.
  15. A bunch of us "Goolies" were there, I was almost 20 & Gail was just 18, we were at the very first one, the last one & carried on through with the Winter Gardens. It was unbelievable to hear the noise of clapping & stomping on the dancefloor as you approached the pier & then to feel it bounce & tremble under foot as you walked on it to the side entrance, such wonderful memories. Remember this was really the first time the East had anything to rival the North West & the Midlands, this was our Wigan, Torch, Va-Va's etc & we loved & treasured it with a passion & I still get goosebumps thinking of it & remembering. Take care, be safe & "Remember, remember member, remember, remember member", Spot.
  16. Dawn surely as it's musical it wouldn't be a thong but a G-string? And by the look of it, it's well wedged up the old "Double G Clef", now that'll bring a tear to your eye & make you throw yourself around like a firecracker in a tin trying to disengage it from you Apollo docking port , if you know what I mean?? Ooh, the thoughts just sent a shiver up me spine & made me squirm in me seat. Take care, be safe & remember "Bridget Jones big knickers" for dancing ladies, Spot. ps. Trev, calm down, you'll blow a gasket or implode & we're only just into Jan m8, remember it's only a poxy dance comp.
  17. Dave, trust me to say you looked a lot better than on our previous visits to Brighouse, anyway hope your on the mend & hope to see you out & about soon, we need your ascorbic wit & dour humour my friend. Take care, be safe & wear a bloody thermal vest, Spot & Gail.
  18. Patto, Stevo, Sharon & the rest of you York yokels, I may be quite at present but this is the lull before the storm, so brace yourselves for after Santa's made his appearance, ok. THE SPOT.
  19. Hi all you SS's, old rambling wobble gob of Goole here, I just wanted to say to all my good friends,my new friends, people I've butted heads with, people I've had debates with & those who don't like me or just plain can't bide the sight of me, if Gail & I don't see you have a GREAT Xmas & I wish you all Health, Wealth & most of all Happiness for the coming year. TAKE CARE,BE SAFE, "COS, HERE IT IS MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYBODIES HAVING FUN, LOOK TO THE FUTURE NOW, IT'S ONLY JUST BEGUN", Spot & Gail.
  20. Top man John, that will make my night at Brighouse & I won't be to bored with all the repeat Oldies, let's see if this gets 'em dancing, cos it dam well will Gail & I. Can't believe it only went for that but you pays your money & takes your chance. Simon if this is Butch's copy then it makes 5, if a new copy then it's 6 in total that we know of. And I'm sure he says, " A 2,A1 no more lord" but hey who's bothered, just dance. I knew Ginger had taste, now it'll break massive, even in Oldies rooms,Watch. Take care, be safe, Spot.
  21. Do you know what would perk the old boy up the most??? A FULL HOUSE FOR BURY TOWN HALL, CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA & PANTO!!!!! Oh no it wouldn't?? Oh yes it would, Oh, NO it wouldn't, Oh yes it bloody well would. Take care, be care but mostly,"He's behind you", Spot. p.s. Keep smiling fella.
  22. Andy, what a blast from the past, the Viking's Alldayer's & Soul nights, those were the days I remember Major Lance, Doris Troy, Roy C, Mac & Katie Kissoon, Real Thing, Limmie & Family cooking & god knows how many more, not bad for "Sleepy Hollow" Yorkshire, blink & you'll miss it town. I remember the Soul roadshow coming & Blues & Soul coming & interviewing people at a dayer, I also remember some of the top East Coast Dj's coming to Dj including; Ian "Frank" Dewhurst, Rick Todd, Dick Jervis & more. I must know you Andy? Seem to thing someone was looking for you & said you was from Hull? If so I knocked about with lads from there; Tony Dickinson, Steve Elsom, Mike Turnbull, Rick Layden & some part time Soulies but mainly hung out with Snowy & Donny crew. Viking's is still there, just had a lick of paint & a tosh out & would still make an excellent venue for a Soul night. Oh those halcyon days youth!!!! Take care,be safe & remember the old days, Spot.
  23. By the way, what does the guy say on the intro? I've tried but can't work it out. Take care, be safe & listen intently, Spot.
