  1. So hard to pick out multiples never mind just one but the King of the crop was the Old Middleton & although it's now gone it was a close second to Cleethorpes Pier in the early 70's, the East coasts Soul Nirvana, I'm sure Mr McCabe will find the perfect replacement in 2010 Others that stood out are: Burnley for the shear pace & ferocity of it's take no prisoners 60's tunes. Morley Carr because it actually does play semi rare & underplayed tunes. Lifeline for the depth of dj's & rarities, also I think it's finally found it home at last. York Soul Club because it's local & plays our kind of music & it's run by collectors rather than Promotors. Boomerang for the like minded people who travel from all points of the compass to hear every type of rarity & some 70's etc in one of the toughest ex-mining Towns in Yorkshire & love it, can't believe I'm first to mention this. Weekenders has to be Whitby because it's a beautiful place to be with people I rarely see & Skeggy for the friendliest folk & value for money. Take care,be safe & remember,"That was no masked man, that was the Lone Ranger, Hi Ho Silver away", Spot.
  2. Does anyone know if you can get a copy of the finished polished version? Would be nice for old times & a reminder of our younger, slimmer & foolish days. Take care,be safe & remember,"They're coming to take us away,ha ha", Spot.

Is that Gary Fields or am I mistaken?
  4. Now if we're talking "Unbroken Period" then it must be Dave Rivers, he was a Big City Jack the Lad in the 60's, think him & Moses were turned away from Jazz type venues around early 60's . Take care,be safe & remember,"The minds willing but the bodies weak", Spot.

A sudden & unexpected change in the weather at Lifeline allows for a refreshing cool down & 10 mins R&R before hitting the dancefloor again, you just never know with our weather do you, overcoat, jumper, brolly, short sleeved polo shirt, shorts? Got to be prepared for anything. Take care,be safe & remember,"Your phones in your bag, not the barn Sharon", Spot.
  6. Which one's Eddie? Spot. p.s. Sorry, couldn't resist.
  7. October 72 sat freezing me tits off, with my now brother in law Gary Wood & our best mate, now sadly deceased, Barry Cornthwaite, in a door way just off Leeds Headrow waiting for Snowy from Donny to appear & the Central Allnighter (Our first) to start, which it eventualy did (Last train from Goole 5:00pm, Central opened 2am or 1) So down into the bowels of the earth to the strains of Rat Race, 6x6 etc & as they say, "The rest my friend is history" & oh what sweet history. Take care,be safe & remember,"Even the bad times are good, as soon as I get to you Baby", Spot.
  8. Was an absolute monster in the early 70's, two different Despanza designed labels but the Ultra rare one is Wand 1152. Not booted but legit reissues. Take care,be safe & remember,"I can't give you up , no I can't let you go", Spot.

Just realised why we need the younger element amongst our midst, so we know our hearts are still beating, like the 4 Tops say, "I can't help myself". Take care,be safe & remember,"Carry on the good work young lady", Spot. p.s. Why does everyone seem to be doing the Locomotion at the back on the right??
  10. Rob I never look at the Door tax cost at any event, as the song says "I go where the music takes me", I look firstly at the Dj line up,then the distance from home & if it's in England & takes our fancy then we're off & usually pick up a couple to ride shotgun & listen to me talking Drivel & Bo**ock's, I think most Rare Soul lovers are like this, with as always the odd exception. Most people only get out once or at the most twice a week, so hopefully the entrance fee should be irelevant, the most I've seen is £12 & most people spill more than than that in beer, however if your unemployed or on benefits then thats a different matter, advanced planning for a Soulful D-Day landing is required. Take care,be safe & remember,"I'm a pensioner now you know", Spot. p.s. As for drinking I tend to be Mr Designated Driver as Gail & most of our passengers don't drive & as previously said, Dancing,Beer & Upright tend not to gel well.

Now that's how I remember you Sue
  13. It's ok reporting & complaining & whinging but if people didn't buy the bloody things there'd be no market for them there go nobody to sell to, so it's our scene's fault for perpetuating it by buying the bloody stuff, SHAME ON US, thank God I stopped collecting & sold up in 81, now what was that website address again. Take care,be safe & remember,"Dancers don't actually give a sh*t what's on the turntable, only the Dj's & Collectors do", Spot.
  14. Some very nice choices in the thread but one record I've come to hate with a vengeance, infact when Snowy stays at mine if he's DJ'ing in the area I only allow him to stay if he leaves the record at home & yes I do check, the record in question; Tony & Tyrone-Please Operator-Atlantic. Anyway here my Top Ten; 1. Keith - Daylight saving time 2. Marc Copage - Who can I turn to 3. Brian Hyland - The Joker 4. Cherry People - And suddenly 5. Wigans Ovation - Ski-ing in the snow 6. Teen Turbans - We need to be loved 7. Peppers - Pepper Box 8. Toys - Lovers Concerto 9. Wall of Sound - Hang on 10. Boots Randolph - Letter to Maria 11. Teddy Vann - The Coloured Man 12. Fabulettes - The Bigger they are 13. Hollywood Persuaders - Hollywood a go-go 14. Mr Bloe - Groovin' with Mr Bloe 15. Wynder K Frog - Green Door. Sorry, got carried away there, was on a roll, SMOKING, remember how good it really was at times. Take care,be safe & remember,"It's only Rock & Roll but I like it", Spot.
  15. Soz, Double clicked. Spot.
  16. Boot of same design has "Delta number 10031" in dead wax, trouble with record is theres that many different Original designs,I know of about 5 & thats not including Boots, have seen the rare ones with straight black plain writing across the record go for as little as £125, it's a minefield out there. Spot.
  17. Me neither, bloody hell & she get's her kit off for good measure, also thought Tammi Terrell was stunning. Take care,be safe & remember,"You'll have some buggars eye out with one of them if your not careful Joey", Spot.
  18. Carl I didn't get into NS properly till Oct 72 but I remember Bailey's, went there with my mates from Hull when I was an Apprentice at Aerospace (Hawker Siddeley then), went on train or cadged a lift there, buggar to get home from as last train left at 11pm, so next one was 5am Milk train, remember you went up in a lift or by the stairs & the main room played Pop but the back room played all types of Soul music & I still can see the place when ever I hear Joe Simon - Step by Step, other place I remember in Hull for Northern was the Centre Bar on a Sunday night other than that Hull was a Northern Soul wasteland, a bit like Leeds, Big City but hardly any Soulies, unless it's 5 minutes away by Bus. Take care,be safe & remember,"Waggy, Hoy,Waggy,Hoy,Waggy Waggy Waggy, Hoy Hoy Hoy", Spot.
  19. Hi People a mates asked me to put a shout out for a nice White Demo in excellent condition of; Brice Coefield - Aint that right - Omen. PM me with a scan & a decent price & I'll pass the details on. Cheers, Spot.
  20. Theres also thousands of good lesser played Oldies that need reviving, the reason the others are played out is it's always the same 100'ish that are played which shows a lack of imagination & plain laziness on the Dj's part & the consumers. Couldn't agree more Tezza but you forgot how they "Piss & Moan" whilst anything after 31st December 1969 is being played or if someone like Sam is on & that's after we've listened to 3 hours or so of Soul's equivalent to repetative strain injury, sad really, btw what time does Bingo start??? Take care,be safe & remember,"They're all bloody Oldies, just like us", Spot.
  21. First time I ever saw Frank Booper was at the Mecca Hanley, Stoke on Trent, it was sometime in 1973 the 36 hour extravaganza, when Soul Sam was wearing a Donovan style hat & to us young guns looked ancient, in walks this guy wearing a Black 3 piece suit & we all think (Being young & foolish) who the F**ks he? He walks to a table at the edge of the dancefloor takes his jacket off & gently places it across a chair back so as not to crease it & in his white shirt & waistcoat that makes him look like male Flamenco dancer he steps onto the edge of the floor & thats when we found out who the F**k he was, this guy could dance & I stood there open mouthed & amased & after that I wanted to be Frank 2 & although I tried my damnedest I never did manage it & although today it would be mainly classed as Gymnastics then it was bang on, thats how most people danced or tried to dance. Take care,be safe & remember," A backdrop & spin is just a clever way of falling over", Spot.
  22. For me it has to be Ivy Joe Hunter - Don't stop loving me, if were talking Rarer etc but just looking at the Four Tops & Temptations commercial releases they take a lot of beating & Beauty's only skin deep still makes me shiver & tingle everytime I hear it, the intro wipes me out & has me shuffling about like a giddy kiddy. Take care,be safe & remember,"So if your looking for a lover, Oh yeah, don't judge a book by it's cover,Oh yeah", Spot.
  23. Thank You kind Sir, I'd have to play The Temptations - Beauty's only skin deep, for all those Gurners out there but for Gail it would be The Inspirations - No one else can take your place, followed by Temptations - My girl, of course I'd be Mr Ruffin. Finally for all the Scary Starry Children of the night, Lou Ragland - Travelling Man. Take care,be safe & remember,"Oh, The rain may fall in many places,da da,da,da,da,da,da,da, Oh, I may smile at many faces", Spot.
  24. Who's Richard Searling? Take care,be safe & remember,"This is the end, my beautiful friend", Spot .
  25. Bloody Hell Steve sounds like a sure fire winner to me, it'll sweep the Nation like a plague of Locust or is that Swine Flu?? Anyway I'll have a front row seat & an extra large bucket of Popcorn, my that Pete Postlewaite gets everywhere in these Northern Genre films, he's so versatile, he can do Yorkshire, Lancashire, Geordie & even Barnsley accents at the drop of a hat, my Hero. Tek care, thy b safe & remember," Dunt ert me whippet or me pit pony, reat", Spot. p.s. I was told they ran out of money but are back in production now, this was from someone working in wardrobe luvvie.
