  1. Can't say fairer than that but someone will still doubt. Oh ye of little faith or is it the green eyed monster? Spot.
  2. Oh Phil what a mistake putting that up, I'm saying nowt but there's been a long and bitter debate about Northern Soul Girl dancing anywhere in the entire world where someone happens to have a Box Brownie or similar and lets be right most lasses of 20 year old or similar look fit to us old farts. Spot.
  3. Shouldn't we TRY and embrace it all, after all it's OUR music and it's all basically Oldies, we now have a vast catalogue of music Old and Newer to enjoy, remember there's always been sh*te along the way but I must say that most of the Old stuff is far superior to the newer stuff but there are a lot of exceptions and I'd frequent more Oldies venues if I thought I'd get more than the Top 100 (Max). My wouldn't it be a boring place if we all enjoyed the same things, except R&B because nobody really likes that. Diversify or Die, Spot.
  4. So in 1990 they could see it ending, well it's still going strong but that Andy Peebles what a t*t.
  5. We wish you all the best on your recovery Ian, it will take time & is a slow process but it's amazing what is achievable, forget all the politics and name calling, as a person we wish you well & as a Dj we thank you for what the Highland Room & the music you brought to us, did to our lifes, I know it changed mine & put me(and my Wife Gail) onto the path we still follow, this scene owes you a a pat on the back & a big Thank You. Spot & Gail.
  6. Quick hide your Monkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I agree with Steve S 60, well done, proper recognition for an iconic venue and part of our youth, I hope it's in a prominent place with a photo (Similar to the one here) to give an idea of the place. Spot.
  8. Well done Kev for not biting, seems to be using snippets etc to provoke, the quote about not playing originals just shows the chasm between old school and the new generation,I still believe if you weren't there you just won't get it 100%, sorry but I'm a cynical, miserable, bitter old fart. Spot. P.s. Bet all, including him are well under 50.
  9. Great Phil, be a bit more careful in future & go with your instinct btw make sure every person on any soul forum or social media knows this guy and what he does and as Philly says hound the tw*t for the £75. Spot.
  10. Great Pete, brings back such memories, glad you put Rodger Collins on, I love it and have fond memories when it was massive but it seems to be one of those people castigate for some reason, Saxie Russell seems to be the same & I don't know why, anyway thanks for the tunes. Spot.
  11. Who actually gives a rats behind, other than someone buying it, my rare Green bootleg i gave to Snowy could hardly be told from a real one, it's all gone a bit Pete Tong this thread & very anal. Spot.
  12. Nice list Derek, just love Robert Thomas and in my humble opinion by far the best version, I remember how massive it was at Cleethorpes in the 70's but seems it's not rare enough to play out anymore so it's Rita Lee/Cressida Watson instead btw also love 100% & Corey Blake. Spot.
  13. I'm in agreement but I'm afraid Politics and Religion are the main cause of War's and the Middle East etc has shown that for generations, it's ok to sing about morality and empathy and everything else but only we can put it into practice and I'm afraid at some point we all pick sides, nice thought and sentiment though. Spot.
  14. I'm jealous, I love "Do what you wanna do" & remember it being massive at Blackpool Mecca first in the early 70's but only for a fleeting moment, I think it was booted quickly as it was such a big tune, I also love "Candy" and his E J Rush tune ain't shabby, the start of which sounds a little "Do what you wanna do'ish", or is that just wishful thinking by me? Anyway thanks for the clips it's brightened up my day. Spot.
  15. See you caught the Phantom Arse Groper on tape & how cool did Joe look spinning a few in his shades , great video even though the panning was a bit quick & made my head spin but depending on time of day & quantity of liquid intake then I suppose your head could have been spinning , still great to see Soulies enjoying themselves, we had a weekend or 2 in. Spot. p.s. Thought it was the Horse & Groom, not the Arse & Grope?
  16. Top last set by Bri P, others weren't to shabby either. Spot. p.s. Joe say "Goodbye" to John Phillips if I don't see him before he returns to Oz.
  17. Thought Barbara McNair would do more because of it's a massive Oldies play. Spot.
  18. Nice Mick, some of my fav tunes (So many to choose from though) but where was Mr E.Rodney Jones? Spot.
  19. Well Andy some nice tunes also, Dusty Springfield, the best version; Bobby Taylor a fav oldie of mine not heard to often; Terry Callier, Superb as is Guitar Ray and a seldom heard Mecca/Cleethorpes tune by Jimmy Mack, pity you spoilt yourself with that twaddle from Ken Barlow & Rolf Harris. Spot.
  20. Sean some great tunes & one of my fav's you don't hear out to often, Rick Sheppard - We can share it - Colimbia, for some reason I always see it with Darryl Stewart - Name it & claim it - Wand, another you don't hear out. Spot. p.s. Bobby Rich is actually my all time fav.
  21. Yes you did Tezza, thankfully they never went into the saga of the record. Take care & yes, see ya soon. Spot.
  22. Tezza thought they said she was the one who picked it off the album saying, "It's a hit" and Cathy McGowan said, "I'll give it 5" (That bit's not true, obviously), pity there was only a passing mention of The Funk Brothers, saying they were Jazz Musicians and no mention of any white artists but we could argue all year about it and should it have been Top 50 and she/he should have been in, for what it was it was good I thought and I bet even you was tapping your feet and saying, "I remember when........." Spot.
  23. Loved it, took me back to every Saturday when I was in Primary school and Mum would return from shopping with a new 45 from the Top 20 and more often than not it would be a Motown song, I remember singing and dancing along to "My Guy", "Baby Love", & "Where did our love go", the Four Tops, the Temptations and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles in the Living Room with as many records stacked up on the Radiogram spindle as it would allow or just clicking the play switch and having it repeat over and over again, a great time before Northern Soul and oh so innocent btw Mum still has all the tunes in the loft but at 77 she can't throw shapes like she use to, God love her. Spot. p.s. Forgot to say, went to Motown Museum with Mr Roberts Chicago trip, spent time in the "Snakepit" with Dennis Coffey, Lorraine Chandler & Francis Nero (Who's 60th Birthday it was) gave us the Tour before meeting lots of Artists at the Memphis Smoke Diner, treasured memories but a scary place Detroit.
  24. Rip Clive, was a regular on the Drax dancefloor with Micky, last time I spoke to him was Kings Hall Stoke,a gentleman. Spot.
  25. Nice one Pete, a media piece that makes us look normal everyday people with a passion, instead of loony freaks bouncing about in clown suits and being on the edge of humanity, well done mate, at last sensibleness (If that's a word). Spot.
