  2. Wasn't this one of Pittsburgh DJ's Mad Mike (Metrovich)'s sounds? Am fairly sure I heard some of his plays got bootlegged for his audience, Could it be that?
  3. Great, great record and likewise for me, always sounds so fresh . I can't be the only person though, that has noticed the melodic hook was borrowed by another great record?
  4. The one I posted is a disco mix released to djs on a promo 12" only. Quite hard to get. I believe all the subsequent reissues /boots of it have got the LP version which is good but not as good / sought-after.
  5. Maybe also look at the many previously unreleased and new things that emerge on limited new release 7"s. Lots of quality and affordable, also future collectables (assuming anyone is still interested in 20 or so years' time!)
  6. Thanks. Yes, the US one is 76. Was fairly sure the Brazilian one I've got is '72: both sides off, 'People..Hold On' LP. Hadn't seen those other releases though which confirm it. Evidently, someone had a good ear at Motown's Rio de Janeiro outpost! (....or would it have been in Brasilia?) Plays at 33, incidentally and wacky Brazilian Motown company sleeve! Love oddball releases like this.
  7. I'd list the rarer stuff on here tbh. Sold loads here (mainly under a previous account) and hardly ever had a problem other than massively regretting doing so now! Unless you need the money, I'd recommend putting them away somewhere for a couple of years and see if you miss them. Because once they are gone, at today's prices, you can forget getting them back! Good luck!
  8. Yes. Got one of those myself. According to Discogs, Collectables started in 1980.
  9. This version is quite hard to get on the other hand..
  10. Was there a US or anywhere 7" release before 1976 (b-side of 'Born Again')? It was popular in New York clubs before that but I assume off the LP? Only I have just picked up this Brazilian 7" from 1972..
  11. Loads of charity finds over the years. Best most recent one was stone mint, Madeleine Bell, 'Picture Me Gone' on UK Philips in original bag. Not an amazing find but not too bad and nice enough for 50p. In amongst some Dusty Springfield records so I wonder what the story was there..!
  12. No. Longer on the LP. Also there have been various 12s over the years with a longer take. The LP comes up in London charity shops quite often for less than that, too.
  13. I collect that stuff too. It's been played since a new release in New York, etc and on the jazz/ funk / boogie scene in UK. There's various releases on 12 available plus the LP so I don't think they are driving sudden demand for the 7...
  14. I heard this excellent and very well-known track played at a do last night. Fairly sure I've got one but can't be arsed trawling through all the boxes in storage. So I had a look on Discogs and sellers want silly money on a 7 (around 50 quid mark) for a record that must have done very well at the time. It's on the b-side of 'Whole Town's Laughing At Me' - one of his best known and most popular records. Why so expensive? Am I missing something here?
  15. Huh? I've got a white label (obvious boot) of Charles Johnson somewhere which I am pretty sure has Lew Kirton on the other side. Had it for years though, can't even remember where it came from, charity shop or something..Is this Burnett one new?
  16. A pretty obscure one from 80s Keb for a (probably forgotten) record that has always stuck in my mind for some reason - Thaddeus Crawford, -'The Workout' / The Romeos 'Mon Petite Chow' on Loma (the actual title of which defies the creativity of any ridiculous / implausible cover up). Still sounds good to me actually, and as can be seen Thaddeus and Crawford were two people and Workout the publisher!
  17. Sorry but no matter how good it is, I don't want to own a record by someone called, 'Papa Bear and the Cubs'. You have to draw a line somewhere. If that makes me wrong, I don't wanna be right.
  18. I definitely remember it from Stafford, or that era, and it came out on this comp in 84: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Rare-Soul-Uncovered-18-Northern-Soul-Favourites/release/795764
  19. They probably did tours in South America and these came out to coincide..
  20. Couple more, jus' for fun / novelty value... James Brown, 'Sex Machine' on Nigerian Polydor. Found in local charity shop the other weekend. Linda Lyndell on Phillipines Atco.
  21. I've just bought Eddie Kendricks 'Date With the Rain' on Brazilian Motown (...fingers crossed it turns up!). It dates from '72, unlike the US 7' which was the b-side of 'Born Again' from '76. It was massive in underground New York clubs before that off the LP (released 72) I believe. So...does that mean the one I've bought is the OV (as in, 'OVO') 7'?
  22. Mal, see above Here's a Valerie Simpson gem version excursion Starting with this lovers rock classic:
  23. ..found in an abandoned storage unit. These were found a few years ago so I don't know if this is news to you lot on here? Was to me. Mouthwatering. And splendid to hear these ended up where they have, being looked after and catalogued. https://5mag.net/news/philly-sigma-sound-studio-lost-recordings/ https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Drexels-Music-Department-Resurrects-Long-lost-Funk-Music-511895332.html

  24. I've got a Mexican 7"! The Independents, 'I love you, yes I do' on Mexican Scepter.Large centre hole, which is a bit inconclusive to say the least but suggests that was the format in Mexico at the time. Also, would companies like All Platinum / Turbo be doing separate batches and shipping them all the way down to Mexico? I'd speculate this is more likely to be possibly something to do with radio station dj preferences. Easier to cue up / programme alongside LPs, maybe? Also, for club djs around NY? I've heard that DJs on the early 70s proto-disco scene in New York preferred releases on UK pressings. There's also things like this that were put out just for that market in New York this way: https://www.discogs.com/Schatz-Sunny-Gale-Soon-Everything-Is-Gonna-Be-Alright-I-Wanna-Know/release/1548067
