Fluffy Falana - My Little Cottage (Alpha)
Louis replied to Chris Turnbull's topic in Look At Your Box
Hi Geoff Disagree with your comment, as my definition of storm is; uproar, outcry, furor and controversy. The record caused all of these in my little group, similar to comments on this thread. Even caused merriment when we imagined Fluffy's mum calling her in when she was little, "Fluffy your tea (dinner for those down south) is ready". These days its not all about packed dancefloors, sometimes its the memories a particular record invoke. My other particular record memory of the night was Len's spot where he started off with Nancy Butts, which I absolutely love. You can have as much fun sat down as you can dancing, these days, just wish some DJ's realised that too. Don't particularly like the record, but it's just about personal preference............. -

Triode (Paul Johnson) played it at the last stubshaw in december. Went down a storm. -
I seem to remember going there to see the Marvelettes (but I could be wrong, as I do remember being ill on those long benches, after eating something). We had a minibus from Preston with Derek Smith driving. Was it the Marvelettes? Can anyone confirm or deny, please?

Just remembered SAS did a soul night at the Hacienda Manchester...........it's all coming back to me...slowly..it was on the same night that Russ did an all-nighter at Maximes (Wigan Tiffanys). I went to both of em (as I remember stopping on the M61 hard shoulder for a wee going to Wigan )

Hi Chalky SAS of GB also did the Ritz all dayer manchester (Ric -Tic revue). I worked the door that day and I've still got flyers for it. Also they did an all-dayer at the blue rooms sale ( I'll Pm you the story of that :-)

R.I.P Otis Clay. Remember seeing him live at Colne Municipal hall back in the 90t's. He sure could sing. Proper Soul singer.

Yep its the Methodist.

Hi Kirsty I think its saint Marys church. I think there will be a good turn out for Gordon as he was one of the good guys and probably famous for his picture on the first issue of Northern noise magazine. A sad loss. Louis

Louis replied to Chalky's topic in Front Page News & Articles
Ey up Chalky it wasn't a reprimand on your spelling It's just that I have lived in Westhoughton for over 30 years, therefore I know how it should be spelt. Plus I thought I'd mention it before Triode did as he lives in the posh bit- 140 comments

At least we can say that Derek Pearson is Not a Cad and a bounder now . Not that I had any doubts about his sales technique
-
For me it's got to be: The kent cd "Pied piper-follow your soul" (only one I've bought for me this year!) The only other one I've bought this year is the "express your soul - The levanna Mcclean mix" for my wife.
-
Interesting thread this. Now I'm sure I bought the album off a Mr. Pearson of Bratford, a few years ago. He stated at the time that it was only available on the album. Are you know calling Derek a cad and a bounder???

Let's COP a groove

Walking stick? Must be "I'm your limp"

I'm old school whatever that means! My cds in my car are all my vinyl to cd compilations. I don't buy many compilation cd's these days. I did buy this compilation for my wife for her car, plus there were a few on it I hadn't heard before. I've only listened to cd1 so far and It is ok, even my wife likes 3 or 4 tracks on it. Good luck to the young woman in her enterprise. In my mind she has as much right to do a "tape-mix" as anyone else, especially, as she has been chosen as the marketing face of this product.

Just finished my regular round of monday golf, beautiful frosty morning, deer running wild and even got quite a few pars! The only thing that spoilt it was my golf partner calling me Zak all the way round! Didn't get it at first until he said, "You did see emmerdale on friday didn't you?" I used to love this scene when not many knew about it!!!!!!
-
I'm sure Chris Tate went to the twisted wheel or was it he had a twisted wheel? Only long time fans of emmerdale will understand!

Won't you please (be my baby) on Dynamics?

Irma Thomas, Mabel John, Brenda Holloway, Barbara Lynn, Betty Harris
Louis replied to Godzilla's topic in All About the SOUL
I wish I was just to see Irma Thomas! She is the best live act I've ever seen. Just love her voice. -
When I first started collecting records (early 7t's) I got a copy of this from a junk shop (now called antique shops!), I think they were 3 for 2 bob (or now 0.10p). You have to remember this was very early on and every town, city, village and people who were into Northern had a "secret sound". Berts apple crumble was mine, I pressed out the middle and black felt tipped it on both sides (I really didn't understand record collecting as a teenager-still don't!). I used to play it on my dansette to all me mates who came round and got them to guess who it was by etc. My other secret sound was "what a wonderful night for love" by Bobby Patterson and black felt tipped that too! The things you do when your young!!!
