  1. I like Bruce Springsteen, as an artist and as a socialist man. However, I'm not sure who this is aimed for really. 'Whitening' of soul music always makes me feel uneasy and this is no exception. The best we can hope for is people hear it and dig a little deeper (like people did with Beatles covers of The Shirelles etc in the 60's) and discover some decent sounds. One thing that baffles about this thread is the theory that DILY is some underground record? It's been on adverts, TV programmes and numerous CD's and surely everyone knows it now? It's not really a secret is it?
  2. Ive seen photos of the Deptford Soul club nights and it's full of 18 year old kids in t shirts danc9ng with cans of beer. Which, in my opinion, is better than dressing up like a Casino kid and trying to mix with 70 year olds down the local labour club. The next generation are far more into the records rather than the dancing or the 'look'.
  3. There's a great chapter heavily involving Bub in Young Soul Rebels by Stuart Cosgrove. Well worth a read.
  4. Loved it. The bit about Tats getting his shoe pissed on by Tony out of Tony and Tyrone is worth price of admission alone.
  5. Is it a 10"? I'd be surprised if people did a 10" carver.
  6. The issue I've found with Popsike and (especially) Discogs as a UK buyer is UK sellers have seemed to hike a lot of prices up in accordance with the raise of US shipping. So if a records is, say, $4 the P&P will be circa $15. So suddenly if a record was going for £5, it's now £15 to match the US total cost. It's frustrating.
  7. Terrific article, thanks for posting, though I would put Alice Clark's version of You Hit Me above Kim Weston's.
  8. Does anyone know who does the incredible backing vocals on this track? I know Doris Troy sang on one of Chuck's Wand singles but I don't think it's her or Maxine Brown. Any ideas?
  9. One of my absolute favourites. Proper soulful.
  10. Getting Ready for the Heartbreak. Total classic.
  11. Chuck Jackson-Getting Ready for the Heartbreak on Wand. The man sounds absolutely crushed.
